FIFTEEN MINUTES
Genevieve kept her eyes on Clara’s monitor, and Simon’s warning refused to leave her mind. She tried to push his words aside and focus on the science before her, but every glance at the monitor pulled those words back into her thoughts. She had spent years trusting evidence above instinct, yet tonight both seemed to be pointing toward the same unsettling conclusion.Doctor Coleman stood at the bedside with perfect confidence, giving orders like a man who had never been wrong in his life. His assistants moved with practiced efficiency, handing him instruments before he even asked. Around the ward, the younger nurses visibly relaxed simply because the famous neurologist had arrived. To them, his presence usually meant the crisis was already half solved.“Maintain respiratory support and prepare controlled sedation,” Doctor Coleman said, adjusting Clara’s eyelid with gloved fingers. “We will stabilize her properly now. No more interference from people carrying charms in leather bags.”
THE COLLAPSE OF CERTAINTY
Mr. Gallagher’s voice still echoed in Simon’s mind as he stood by the bed.The old man’s words were weak, but they carried weight. “Go, Simon,” he had said. “An ancient saying says, the hand that can pull one soul from the river must not argue with the riverbank.”Simon tightened his grip on the leather medical kit. For a moment, he did not move. Then he nodded once, slow and firm, accepting something heavier than responsibility. He turned toward Genevieve.Genevieve did not wait for another word. She grabbed his sleeve and pulled him forward. “Please. There is no time left.”They ran back through the corridor together. Genevieve’s breathing was uneven, her professional calm was completely gone. Nurses stepped aside when they saw her expression. Something in the hospital had already changed, even before they returned.Ward Nine was no longer controlled. It was collapsing.Monitors screamed in uneven rhythm. Clara’s body shook violently again, her oxygen mask was slipping as she gaspe
SAVED BY A STRANGER
Simon continued without hesitation. His hands moved with controlled precision, each needle was placed like part of a system none of them understood.Genevieve leaned closer, watching every movement. Her mind struggled to match what she was seeing with everything she had studied. Nothing aligned. And yet… the results were undeniable.Clara’s breathing deepened. The spasms reduced. Her fingers slowly relaxed.Ethan looked up, unable to believe it. “Is she… getting better?” He said in a faint voice as his body could allow.Genevieve answered softly. “Yes.”Coleman stepped back slightly. “This is temporary,” he said, though his voice was no longer strong. “It has to be a coincidence.”Simon did not respond. He placed the final adjustment.A quiet pulse moved through Clara’s system. Then her eyes slowly opened. For a moment, she did not understand where she was. Then her gaze settled. On Simon.Simon was the first person she saw after believing she was dying. Her breathing steadied further
THE MIRACLE DOCTOR
Clara Ashbourne kept staring at Simon as if the rest of the ward no longer existed. The monitors had calmed. The nurses stood frozen around the bed, still holding instruments they had almost dropped during the panic. The silence felt almost unnatural after the chaos that had filled the room only moments earlier. One of the younger nurses slowly lowered the emergency syringe still clutched in her hand and whispered to her colleague, “I've worked here for three years... I've never seen anyone come back from unconsciousness like that.” The older nurse shook her head without taking her eyes off Clara. “Neither have I. Whatever this man just did, it wasn't luck.”Ethan sat in the chair, his voice still trapped by Simon’s touch, his eyes burning with humiliation and disbelief. Doctor Coleman stood a few steps away, pale with anger, while Genevieve watched Simon like her entire medical training had just been turned upside down. One of the senior nurses cleared her throat, still unable to
A HERO WITHOUT A LICENSE
Simon paused. The question was simple, but the way she asked it made the air feel heavier. He saw the open attachment in her face, raw and unguarded because she had almost died and woken to him standing over her like an answer.“Rest first,” he said.Clara searched his face as though trying to memorize every detail before he disappeared. “Will you at least promise you won't leave the hospital yet?” she asked softly.Simon's expression remained calm. “Your recovery is more important than promises.”She smiled weakly. “Then I'll recover quickly.”Clara looked disappointed, but she nodded weakly. “Thank you, Simon.”Simon inclined his head politely. “You do not owe me thanks. Save your strength instead.”Clara shook her head as much as her condition allowed. “I do owe you. I'll spend the rest of my life proving it if I have to.”The words made several nurses exchange surprised glances. He gave her one brief nod, then turned toward Genevieve. “Watch the signs I mentioned.”Genevieve nodde
THE ROAD TO WAREHOUSE 17
Four days after Doctor Coleman ordered Simon Gallagher’s name to be hunted through hospital records and other possible records, Simon was already hunting someone else. The hospital had not forgotten him. Nurses still whispered when he passed the corridor to visit his grandfather. Genevieve watched him with questions she could not ask in public. One certain time, Clara Ashbourne had sent flowers to Mr. Gallagher’s ward with a small card that simply read, Thank you, Simon Gallagher. Simon had read it once, placed it beside his grandfather’s pomegranates, and said nothing. He knew attention was dangerous for a man like him. Coleman’s pride had turned him into a small enemy, but Simon had larger men to deal with. The Marwick brothers were still moving stolen oil through fake farms, and the trail from Black Lantern had given him the next name the progress in his quest to bring down the Marwicks.Lobo.That evening, Simon left the hospital after visiting his grandfather without using the m
RECOGNITION IN THE DARK
Lobo turned on him. “Nothing waits. The Marwick brothers hate delay more than they hate the police. We are going to confirm the fuel, update the payment schedule, then send the new route to Warehouse 17. After that, everybody sleeps.”The gate opened. The convoy rolled inside the fuel depot and stopped near the entrance office. Four guards stepped out first. Two of them carried pistols openly. One had a short rifle under his jacket. The last kept scanning the road behind them. Lobo came out next, holding the blue tube tightly and trying to look calm. His business associate followed with the black case.Depot workers moved carefully around them. A supervisor came from the office with a clipboard, bowing slightly as Lobo approached.Lobo spoke first. “Is the load ready?”The supervisor nodded. “Ten thousand litres confirmed. Refined fuel. Two tanks have been sealed. Market release papers are prepared.”Lobo’s associate opened the black case on the hood of the sedan. Inside were files,
LAUGHTER BEFORE DEATH
The depot became quiet after the guard pointed at Simon.Lobo turned slowly and stared at him. “What did you just say?” he asked, his voice was low and sharp. “Say it clearly, since fear has suddenly made your tongue useless.”The guard swallowed hard, but his hand remained pointed at Simon. “Boss, he caused the Black Lantern arrests. I heard men screaming about him before the police came. They said he walked in alone, and by the time he left, the gangsters were crawling out like dead men.”Another guard shifted uneasily. “People said he was a cop,” he muttered, glancing at Simon’s empty hands. “They said police vehicles were waiting outside after everything burned.”Lobo stared at them for two seconds, then burst into laughter again. This time the laugh was louder, almost forced. “One pretty boy terrified half the underworld?” he said, turning back to Simon. “I don’t believe it.”Simon’s face did not change. “Belief is not required.”The answer made Lobo’s smile tighten. His business
ONE MAN ARMY
The first gunman blinked, and Simon was gone from the space where death was supposed to meet him.The pistol fired anyway. The bullet struck the metal gate behind Simon’s former position with a sharp crack, sending sparks into the darkness. The sharp report echoed across the depot, startling several workers near the storage tanks. One of them instinctively ducked behind a fuel drum while another shouted, “Who fired that gun?” A third worker grabbed his coworker's arm. “Forget the paperwork,” he said anxiously. “Something is terribly wrong at the entrance.”For half a second, everyone froze. Even Lobo's business associate forgot to breathe. His eyes darted across the concrete, searching for Simon, but all he found was empty space. “He... he can't just disappear,” he whispered nervously. “Nobody moves that fast.”The gunman stared at the empty patch of concrete, his mouth flew open, his finger still stiff on the trigger.“Where did he go?” he shouted, turning too late.Simon was alre
THE DEPOT MASSACRE
Simon calmly removed his jacket and dropped it onto the concrete. His black shirt clung to his shoulders as he turned slightly, measuring the distance between the men, the fuel trucks, the office door, and the weapons. The security men rushed him.The first came with a baton raised high. Simon stepped to the side, caught the man’s wrist, and guided the baton into the ribs of the second guard beside him. The second guard folded with a cry. Simon turned the first man’s arm behind him and pushed him into the path of a third attacker. Both men crashed into each other and stumbled over a fuel hose.“Cut him off!” one guard shouted. “Don’t let him use the trucks!”Simon moved between the parked fuel trucks with frightening ease. The narrow space made their numbers useless. One man swung a metal rod, but Simon bent under it and struck him once in the stomach. The man dropped to his knees. Another tried to grab Simon from behind, but Simon’s elbow found his jaw before his hands could close.
