CHAPTER 21
Miles away from Sasha’s place. The parrot vehicle landed on the parking spot next to the road. It waited for him to step out.Minutes passed, but he didn’t step out.It gave a warning message to Tucker, saying he needed to step out in three more minutes, or he’d be charged another nex.The four-seater parrot rides were the cheapest, costing just one nex per ride no matter where one traveled within the city.Tucker opened his eyes.He read the notification of his sync rate increasing from 0.97 to 0.98.His eyes narrowed. “I was expecting to cross one percent sync rate after absorbing Steel Jackal’s core energy, but this is disappointing.”Tucker believed that Steel Jackal’s soul energy wasn’t the problem. It was likely his own limitations of being an X-grade.“It seems getting past the one percent sync rate won’t be easy. That’s the first biggest wall I need to cross.”The parrot gave another warning and started a timer at the last minute, with an increasing beep sound.“Stop,” Tucker
CHAPTER 22
“I told the bird vehicle to stop yapping,” Tucker said coldly, “but it kept ringing some strange noise in my ears with increasing noise. Anybody with a sane mind would get upset. And you’re punishing me for putting that thing in its place?”[You can fight for your innocence in the court, assuming your master fights for you.]Tucker didn’t like the system’s response.“Tell me how I can quickly earn money,” Tucker asked. But there was no response.Tucker was annoyed, but he quietly continued walking. He was too weak right now to even think about fighting against this system that was controlling him, so he didn’t want to waste his mental energy at the moment. As he walked down the road, he noticed one thing. There were no kids outside, and there were more robots than humans.Even the street dogs or the cats running on the walls were robots making deliveries.Everywhere he looked, it was quite busy.He stopped in front of a store where some robots were charging themselves. He entered it.
CHAPTER 23
The Black Ring was managed by the Black Rose guild situated on the twelfth peak in one of the twelve peaks. The robots that were currently active in the Circuit would avoid fighting here. The reason was simple. The risk of losing the robot’s core was high.Any robot with potential was also scouted by the Black Rose guild, and those who refused to join them would be mercilessly destroyed. So, Black Ring was just another way for the Black Rose guild to find the diamonds in the rough and recruit them. The number of robots participating in the circuit was barely fifty percent compared to the ones that were made in total, so it was possible to find capable robots outside the circuit as well.Tucker was unaware of all this information because this wasn’t found anywhere online.Everything related to Black Ring existed only offline. Even the betting was also strictly offline.A female robot wearing a bikini guided Tucker through various hallways and stairways and eventually took him to a room
CHAPTER 24
Before the fight started, Tucker’s mode was turned offline, so even Sasha was not able to see his data anymore. It wasn’t just for Tucker, but the audience also were not allowed to record the fights.Nobody cheered as Tucker entered the ring that had a 120 feet diameter. There was an invisible barrier built around the stage.“Who is this Tucker?”“Are his eyes white?”“Don’t tell me, he’s an X-grade?”“Are you kidding us? Why are you making us watch an X-grade robot’s fight? We didn’t pay money to watch this scrap metal fight.”Some audience members complained right away. The referee also didn’t bother himself with Tucker.“How much money will I get if I win?” Tucker asked the referee only to get ignored.“Here comes his opponent, the one and only Gale Girl,” the referee said. “In the nine months she spent in Black Ring, she won eleven fights. Because she hasn’t been active in the past three months, she was given the ring number 120, but we all know how capable she is.”Once the audie
CHAPTER 25
About fifteen minutes later. One of the referees approached Tucker and whispered in his ear, “You’ve been given the green signal to continue fighting. Be prepared.”“How much money will I earn?” Tucker asked.“The amount will double with every match,” the referee said. “You already fought one match, so you can only fight two more matches since three is the limit per day.”“Can I bet on myself?” Tucker asked.“Of course.”“Great,” Tucker smiled. “Then bet my winnings on myself.”Because all the money was managed offline, Tucker’s first match rewards didn’t go to Sasha’s bank account. They were still held here.A few minutes later.Tucker’s token number 7 was called along with token number 88.Tucker passed by injured participants. “These machines are fighting however they want in these rings, and these fights are not watched by the world. The system governing all the robots is not as inflexible as I thought. This is a good thing. I can use this ‘inch’ to grow stronger.”This time, ther
CHAPTER 26
“Broken Star Fist!”Little Demon Monk felt his fist connecting with something. The shockwave released flames and light all around, blinding all the audience for the nonce. The flooring itself cracked, and dirt lifted all around. The referee, despite being a warrior himself, was pushed back many feet. “Kckk, he straightaway went for the kill. The opponent’s body must have blown to bits.”Little Demon Monk grinned, thinking he won, but the heat readings through the dust showed him that Tucker was still standing. Before the dust settled, he leaped forth and tried to grab Tucker’s face. But something hit him in the midsection and pushed him back.He resisted with back boosters and attacked Tucker again, this time throwing an avalanche of punches that packed pure raw power and speed. However, none of those attacks fully connected Tucker. They only grazed his body here and there.“How can he move so fast?” Little Demon Monk’s eyes could see Tucker, but his body wasn’t able to keep up. “His
CHAPTER 27
Tucker was pushed out of the mansion.“If you come near this place again, you will be beaten to pulp,” the guards warned him while smiling like sick bastards. There were some people watching, but Tucker didn’t look the least bit embarrassed.Tucker briefly glanced over his shoulder and remembered the building and the name of the guild.“Black Rose guild… Just enjoy your time. When my time comes, I will crush you.”He walked down the road without looking back.“I told Sasha I’d bring 100,000 nex, but now I don’t have even a single nex. This isn’t good.”As he kept walking, one middle-aged lady saw him and approached him.“I haven’t seen an X-grade recently,” she smirked. “And you’re quite handsome. I like you. Let’s go to my place. I’ll pay you 10 nex an hour.”She touched his crotch and frowned.“Mm? You don’t even have a penis? Or is it hidden?”She kept staring at him. “Why aren’t you saying anything? Don’t you have the ability to talk? Did they not install speech software for you?
CHAPTER 28
“Two F-grades, and one E-grade…” Tucker squinted his eyes. “For me to assume you’re trying to steal from me, I’m just an X-grade robot. I assume there’s a better reason you’re after me.”The three of them took out what looked like batons, but a press of a button released laser swords.Tucker’s gaze turned serious as the vibrational laser energy made him remember the dark lord of destruction, one of the toughest enemies Tuckdore had faced. There was no taunting or yelling. The three of them simply sprang forth, but their legs allowed them to propel themselves like springs.Tucker turned half way and moved left. One of the two robots on his left came swinging the sword diagonally.Tucker dodged. The second robot was already swinging at him.Tucker desperately ducked. The third robot’s thrust was upon him.Tucker released a burst of lightning from his body, and it barely managed to thwart the laser sword out of its path.Tucker tried to get past them, but one of them raised his palm and
CHAPTER 29
The Ghost Edge technique caused the laser blade to emit microscopic vibration pulses millions of times per second, which extended slightly beyond the physical blade, allowing it to slice targets without making direct contact. It was an intermediate assassination technique that could slice through tough armor.Street Ghost had only used this against a handful of targets before. And he succeeded every single time.He expected the same tonight when he swung the sword at Tucker’s neck. However, Street Ghost's blade never reached Tucker's neck.Instead, the microscopic vibration waves carved a groove across the brick wall behind him. Chunks of concrete burst into the alley like shrapnel.Street Ghost's eyes lowered.Tucker had already stepped inside the swordsman's range. Most targets feared getting close to a laser sword, but this one was doing the exact opposite.Steel Ghost immediately twisted his wrist. The humming blade swept downward in an arc that seemed impossible to evade.Tucker
CHAPTER 30
The F-rank robot brought skating rollers out of the soles of his feet and skated down the road while carrying Steel Ghost’s upper body.“I can’t believe you lost,” he said. “Just who the hell is that guy?”“Put me down and run,” Steel Ghost said.“What?”“Just do what I said.”The F-rank robot took Steel Ghost to another dark alley and dropped him there. “Are you sure?”“Between the two of us, he’ll choose me, so go,” Steel Ghost said.“I’m sorry,” the F-rank robot swiftly thrust his hand at Steel Ghost’s neck, “I can’t let you give away any information.”But someone held his neck before his hand could reach Steel Ghost.A surge of electricity melted the wires and short-circuited his functions, causing him to tremble and shake without a clue in the world.Tucker pushed him aside and looked at Steel Ghost.“You are strong. I underestimated you because you were just an X-grade,” Steel Ghost said. “But you won’t get anything from me.”“I’m not interested in who sent you,” Tucker said, pu
