Chapter 11: The volcanic depths
The raid team consisted of eighteen people. A standard corporate C-Rank raid team.Everyone gathered, ready to hear the instructions of this mission.Jaxen kept a low profile, blending in with the rest of the squad .At the center of the formation walked Captain Bradley. He was a B-Rank Tanker, a massive guy wearing a full set of polished silver plate armor that practically flashed under the dim light of the tunnel entrance. He looked majestic, sure, but to anyone who actually knew the industry, it just looked like he was showing off corporate sponsorship. He raised a hand, calling the line to a halt."Listen up, everyone," Bradley barked, his voice bouncing off the damp stone walls. "Here's the deal. Inside this cavern is a massive obsidian deposit rich with pure mana. The goal is simple: harvest as much as we can carry before the dungeon collapses. Our
chapter 12 : Iron hide frenzy
The silence in the cavern was heavy enough to suffocate.Down in the shallow mining pit, the workers huddled together like cattle in a slaughterhouse, their bodies trembling so violently you could hear the faint click of teeth chattering. Just above them, stationed on the elevated rocky ridges, the vanguard and the mercenaries stood like stone statues, weapons drawn.Their strategy was blindingly obvious now. They had deliberately formed a tight ring, boxing the miners into the center of the room. They weren't protecting them—they were using them as a living, breathing block of cheese to lure a mouse out of a hole. The moment the threat pounced on the meat shields, the combat squad would rain down hellfire from above, completely indifferent to who got caught in the crossfire. For a long, agonizing moment, it felt as if time itself had ground to a halt. No one dared to draw a full breath.
chapter 13: The death wall
Jaxen's sudden retreat completely ruined the vanguard's formation. The panic in the room caused the majority of the miners to scatter in opposite directions, increasing the distance between everyone. The iron-hide orcs scattered too, each aiming for a different target. With the formation ruined, Sofia couldn't launch her fire spells repeatedly. They needed all the orcs back in one place. One of the vanguards, Elijah, leaped right in front of Jaxen. If he could kick him and the others back down below with the orcs, they could proceed with their plan.Jaxen didn't hesitate. He drew out both his daggers and charged straight at Elijah. Elijah didn't wait for Jaxen to make the first move.Elijah thrust his blade, aiming straight for Jaxen's neck. Jaxen dodged it, swerving to the left and missing the blade by mere inches.
Chapter 14 : A desperate stand off. Elijah vs the three laborers.
Chapter 14 Marcus dashed straight at Elijah. Within seconds, both of them were within arm's length. Elijah stood in a defensive stance, while Marcus took a completely aggressive approach. Marcus unleashed a constant barrage of attacks, but Elijah was able to easily parry them all. Although Elijah clearly had the upper hand, Maxwell and Jaxen utilized every opportunity to help. Whenever Elijah tried to counterattack Marcus, Jaxen and Maxwell would launch their own strikes, forcing the swordsman to back off. Caught in a pincer, Elijah was forced to fight more defensively. "The orcs are starting to climb higher up! What the hell is taking you so long?!" Captain Bradley shouted fiercely toward Elijah from the upper ridges. "Ah," Elijah sighed, looking at the three laborers. "You guys fought well, but the captain's getting grumpy. I'm going

Chapter 16: Death! The last line of defense!?
The first orc reached them in a flash, swinging a massive, rusted iron club aimed straight for Marcus's head. Marcus managed to bring his weapon up to block, but the sheer, raw strength of the beast completely overpowered him. He tried desperately to hold the line, but the force cracked his blades. Marcus's defense broke instantly. His weapons shattered to pieces, and the impact sent him staggering backward. The club barely missed his head, but his chest wasn't so lucky. Marcus collapsed to the floor, coughing up blood as he fought desperately to breathe. Before Maxwell and Jaxen could even adjust, the second orc lunged forward. It thrust a jagged spear straight through Maxwell's shoulder, pinning him to the stone wall behind them. Elena screamed in horror. Jaxen moved in. His C-Rank agility kicked in as he slashed his daggers across the third orc's throat. Dark blood sprayed, but the beast didn't even flinch. It backhanded Jaxen so hard his vision went completely black, sen
chapter 17: Exploding corpses
The vanguard's last line of defense was collapsing. The sheer number of orcs was simply too much for them to handle. Down below, Jaxen and the others couldn't make a run for it; the desperate vanguard and the wall of charging monsters completely blocked their only exit. They had to find another means of escape, and fast. "Hold the line, god damnit!" Captain Bradley roared, swinging his weapon wildly as he and his remaining men tried their best to beat back the horde. "Should we help them?" Elena asked, her voice trembling as she watched the frontline crumble. "And then what?" Maxwell spat, his tone dripping with aggressive frustration. "Don't forget they planned to let us all get massacred in the first place. This is just karma. I say let them die." "But if they die, the orcs will come for us next, won't they?" Tobey added nervously. "I know they did us wrong, but without them holding the line, we're finished either way." "Tobey's right," Jaxen said, his eyes narrowing as
Chapter 18: It's just one problem after another!
"It's just one problem after another, huh?" Jaxen wiped the sweat from his forehead with a blood-smeared hand. "They must have felt the sudden surge of mana from the earlier explosion," Jaxen warned, his eyes darting back toward the cave tunnel. "I'm sure as we speak, more hunters from Astra will be here soon. Once they're here, they'll probably kill us to hide the evidence." Everyone else in the room looked completely paralyzed with worry. Captain Bradley was the only remaining survivor from the elite vanguard squad. All of the hired mercenaries had been slaughtered as well. The only survivors left standing in the entire cavern were Jaxen, Marcus, Maxwell, Tobey, Elena, and three other miners. The rest of the mining crew had been completely wiped out. Jaxen knew the horrific predicament they were in. It was already highly unusual for a couple of E-Ranks and a single D-Rank to be the sole survivors of a high-casualty C-Rank dungeon. "We need to do something!" one of the su
Chapter 19: A true or false situation.
The interrogation room was freezing. The only light came from a bright blue mana lamp built into the middle of the steel table. Heavy, magic-suppressing handcuffs bound Jaxen's wrists to the floor anchors, draining away his energy and keeping him pinned to the chair. Sitting across from him was Chief Investigator Bill—a sharp, gray-haired veteran who looked like he could read minds. On the table between them sat a smooth, white stone ball. It was an official Association lie detector artifact. "Mr. Jaxen Vane, am I right? Okay. Let's start from the beginning," Bill said. His voice was calm, but a heavy, invisible pressure filled the room. He held a documented file containing the details of what had happened in the dungeon—a summarized list of answers gathered from the other interrogated survivors. "An E-Rank laborer with no combat skills somehow predicted the movements of three mutated C-Rank orcs, used dead monsters as bombs, and dodged a point-blank strike from an A-Rank hu
Chapter 20 : An opportunity unfolds.
The door to Jaxen’s cramped apartment clicked shut, the lock sliding into place with a heavy metallic thud. Finally, he was alone. He didn't even turn on the lights. He just leaned his back against the peeling wallpaper of the front door, let out a long, ragged breath, and willed his interface to appear. *Looks like I have better control of the system now,* Jaxen thought to himself. *Back in the dungeon, during all the chaos, I realized something. You can't just interact with the system by talking to it. You have to mentally visualize your actions, and it requires a small amount of mana to actually trigger the interface.* As an E-Rank scout, he had never really understood the concepts of mana control. He could perceive mana, yes, but controlling it was a completely different story. But after watching the C-Rank swordsman fight back in the dungeon, something had suddenly clicked. The man's breathing, his posture—all of it heavily contributed to his mana flow. Jaxen had simply i
