Chapter 1
Gerald's lungs felt like they were filled with dry ice. For seven days, he had walked bare footed, tracked the frost-walkers, escaping death only by the luckiest means multiple. He shivered violently, his hands were black with frostbite, and a jagged wound on his thigh had frozen shut, the pain rigged through his body in unbearable waves but he didn't care. He clutched the small, glowing vial of Glacial Serum to his chest, like his life depended on it.And all the world, it was the only thing that he cared about. A few days back, Tina had told him her body couldn't handle the Freezing Apocalypse anymore. She had cried, barely sleeping at night, saying she wouldn't survive the next cold nap without the just realized resistant serum to help her body adapt to the falling temperature she might not survive. And instead of watching her drown in the pain, he had gone for it without a second thought, just to make sure the one that he cared most for in the world was comfortable
Chapter 2
Gerald stepped out of his car and checked his watch. 8:00 PM. He was exactly one hour late.In his past life, that hour would have destroyed him. He would have been sweating, shaking, his heart pounding so hard he could barely think straight. He would have rushed in with cheap flowers, already planning how to apologize for the next week just to make Tina stop looking at him like he was trash. This time, he straightened his jacket and walked toward the entrance like he owned the place. His heart was steady. He wasn't thinking about Tina's anger or the Hills family's disappointment. He was thinking about the next twenty-one days and everything he needed to do before the world ended. The restaurant was exactly what he expected. Gold everywhere, soft music, the smell of expensive food that cost more than most people made in a month. The kind of place designed to make factory workers feel small. He spotted the Hills family right away. They were sitting at the biggest table in the center, l

Gerald didn't even blink. Instead, he turned back to the server, his voice calm and steady."Add another five hundred portions of the premium steak," he said. "And double the Caesar salads. Make sure everything is vacuum sealed for long term storage."The server's hand shook as he held his pen. His eyes darted between Gerald and the Hills table, not knowing what to do.The crowd gasped again. Someone dropped their fork."Is he serious? He's still ordering more?""The divorce has completely broken his brain!"Tina lunged forward and slammed her hand on the counter, stopping the server from writing anything down."Don't you dare write another word!" she snapped at the server. Then she turned to face the room, her voice loud enough for everyone to hear. "Listen to me, everyone. This man is pitiful. He cannot even afford to feed himself properly, let alone make an order like this. He spent every cent he had buying me cheap gifts for years. He has nothing left!"She pointed at Gerald like

But the picture on the trading site wasn't clear enough to be sure. It was just a side shot, a little blurry, taken from far away. She had stared at it all morning while reading about the Newtop miracle, but looking at Gerald now in his worn factory jacket, she couldn't say for certain it was the same man.The doubt was eating at her.Gerald watched her face and saw the hesitation. He tilted his head slightly."Are you really ready to lose a premium customer," he said quietly, "all because of comments that haven't been verified as truth?""They are verified!" Tina snapped before Lora could answer. She stepped closer to the counter, her voice getting louder. "Everyone in this restaurant knows exactly how useless he is!"She turned to the crowd with her arms spread wide."Tell her! Tell her what you've seen!"The crowd didn't need to be asked twice."I've seen him before," a man in a gray suit said, shaking his head. "He came to my office building last month begging for work. Couldn't e
Chapter 5
The sound of the decline beep was like a starting gun for the crowd.Laughter ripped through the hall, sharp and cruel, bouncing off the gold walls and expensive lights. It wasn't just a few quiet snickers. People were bending over in their seats, pointing at Gerald like he was some street performer who had just fallen on his face."I actually almost believed him!" a woman shrieked, wiping tears from her eyes. "The way he was standing there so serious, ordering like he owned the place. He should be on TV, not in a factory!""Did you see the manager's face?" a man in a suit called out, his voice full of satisfaction. "She actually gave him a chance. She almost treated a beggar like a real customer. That's the real joke tonight!"But the loudest laughter came from the Hills table.Henry pointed straight at Lora, his voice cutting through the noise. "Look at her! She actually thought he had money! She went against us for a broke factory worker!"Tina crossed her arms, a huge smile spread

The silence in the restaurant was heavy and suffocating. Every single person in the hall was staring at the scene in the middle of the room. The guards had frozen in their tracks, their hands hovering near their batons, not knowing whether to move forward or step back. Henry sat with his mouth hanging open, his expensive drink forgotten on the table. James and Jane Hills had gone completely still at their table. But no one was more shocked than Tina. Tina stood there with her eyes wide, looking between Gerald and the stunning woman who had just bowed to him. Her brain was working overtime, trying to find a way to make sense of what she was seeing. It had to be a mistake. It had to be some kind of joke. This woman, who looked like she owned the entire city, couldn't possibly be here for a factory worker who couldn't even pay for his food. Tina stepped forward, her face twisting into a mask of desperate confusion. She was so sure of her own reality that she couldn't see the dang
Chapter 7
Lora stayed on her knees, her hands shaking as she reached toward the woman beside Gerald. She had built her entire career on knowing exactly who mattered in this city, but now she was nothing more than a beggar in an expensive suit. One word from this woman and she would never manage so much as a coffee shop again. "Please!" Lora sobbed, her voice cracking. "I was just doing my job! I was misled by her lies! We have been a respected establishment for years. Don't let one mistake destroy everything. I will give Mr. Gerald anything he wants. The entire order, free of charge. I'll fire whoever you want. Just please, don't ruin us." The woman looked down at her like she was looking at something stuck to her shoe. Without a word, she raised her hand and slapped Lora across the face. The sound cracked through the restaurant even louder than before. Lora's head snapped back and she fell sideways, hitting the marble floor hard. She lay there clutching her burning cheek, gasping for breath
Chapter 8
The question hit Gerald hard. For a wild second, his mind spun. He had this thought, maybe she knew he was from the future. Gerald's frown deepened. "I don't have time to be stressing my brain over guessing games," he said. "Just tell me what you're here for." The woman studied him a moment longer, then let the smile widen just slightly. "Fine. Straight to business, then," she said. "I'm Janet Cornet. Chemistry researcher by training, though these days I mostly work the investment side, I'm a portfolio manager at Halvorsen Capital." Gerald frowned again. Janet Cornet. The name scratched at something in the back of his mind, familiar in a way he couldn't place, like a word sitting just past the tip of his tongue. "So what exactly did you call me here for?" he asked. Janet folded her hands in her lap. "My employer would like to buy out your shares in Newtop. The two million tonight was only a good-faith deposit. There's significantly more on the table if you're willing to talk."
Chapter 9
"Name it," Raphael said again, leaning forward like a man waiting for his prize.Gerald looked at him for a long moment. Then he almost laughed, “it is priceless, i am not intended in selling it, and that is final"Raphael's smile twitched, just slightly, like a crack forming in glass."You sure you aren't going to regret this" he stated."No, I am not, " Gerald said. He stood up without waiting for a reply and walked out, his footsteps steady on the marble floor. He didn't look back, not once, even though he could feel Raphael's eyes burning into his spine the whole way to the door.Behind him, Janet shot up from her seat."Wait, sir, let me talk to him" she started, but she was already moving, chasing after Gerald before Raphael could even answer. She caught up with him outside. "Hey wait," she called. He stopped, but he didn't turn around right away."Why?" Janet asked, her voice tight with confusion. "Why are you being so stubborn about this? Do you know how many people would ki
Chapter 10
Gerald hadn’t bought the food items he needed yet. He knew that walking into one of the big, glossy restaurants uptown would only invite trouble, too many eyes and many questions. What he needed was somewhere quiet, somewhere in the lower town where people minded their business and asked zero questions. He walked for about fifteen minutes to a low town before he found it.A small shopfront. The kind of place that had probably been in someone's family for years, surviving on regulars and home cooking rather than anything fancy. He pushed the door open and a small bell chimed above his head.Inside, a woman in her fifties was wiping down the counter with a cloth, moving slowly like her feet had been hurting all day. A younger girl was carrying a heavy tray toward the kitchen, carefully balancing it with both hands. The place smelled like ginger and something roasting in the back, warm and simple, nothing like the expensive perfume of the restaurant he'd left earlier that night.Gerald
