The first sign came in the dreams.Elara had never been one to remember her dreams. They came and went like clouds on a windy day. She woke with fragments, pieces, echoes of something she could not name. But these dreams were different. These dreams stayed. These dreams burned. She dreamed of darkness. Not the darkness of night. Not the darkness of rest. The darkness of nothing. The darkness of the Void. It was vast. It was endless. It was hungry. It moved through her dreams like smoke. It touched her heart like ice. It whispered her name like a promise."Elara," it said. "Elara. Elara. I am coming. I am waiting. I am hungry."She woke with a scream. Her heart was pounding. Her skin was cold. Her hands were shaking. She looked around the room. It was empty. It was safe. It was home. But the feeling remained. The darkness remained. The Void remained. She went to the light. She sat beside it. She watched it pulse. She watched it glow. She watched it brighten. She felt its warmth. She fe

The Void arrived on a morning when the sun did not rise. The sky turned black. Not the black of night. Not the black of storm. The black of nothing. The black of the Void. It spread across the horizon like a stain. It swallowed the stars. It swallowed the moon. It swallowed everything.Elara stood at the gates of the Academy. Her black eyes were fixed on the darkness. Her black hair was blowing in the wind. Her quiet presence was strong.Behind her, the Keepers gathered. Kaelen with her staff of ice. Corin with his book of lore. Mira with her blade of fire. Elara the first Keeper with her crystal of light. Behind them, the Primeval Beasts. Zephyr. Lira. Aether. Terra. Lux. Umbra. Behind them, the students. Mira. Corin. Tomas. Behind them, the elders. The teachers. The healers. Everyone who had ever believed in the light. And before them, the Void.It was not a creature. It was not a beast. It was not a demon. It was a force. A hunger. A nothing. It moved like smoke. It spread like wat

Mira had been the Keeper for three months when the first test came.It was not a battle. Not a siege. Not a Void. It was smaller than that. Quieter. More personal. A young boy had come to the Academy with a broken creature and a broken heart. He had been cast out by his family. Rejected by his village. Forgotten by the world. He reminded Mira of herself. She took him in. She gave him a room. She gave him food. She gave him clothes. And she gave him something else. Something more important. She gave him hope. She taught him about the light. About its warmth. About its brightness. About its hope. She taught him that the light lived in everyone. That it lived in every heart. That it lived in every soul. That it lived in every life. And the boy listened. He learned. He grew. He became a Beast Tamer. He became a Keeper. He became a legend. But the boy was not the test. The test came later. After the boy had grown. After he had become a Keeper. After he had become a legend. He came to Mira

The courtyard filled before dawn. They came from every corner of the world. The Keepers. The students. The elders. The teachers. The healers. The Primeval Beasts. Everyone who had ever believed in the light. Everyone who had ever loved the light. Everyone who had ever hoped for the light.Mira stood at the center of it all. Her black eyes were bright. Her black hair was long. Her quiet presence was strong. She looked at the faces before her. At their fear. At their hope. At their light."We are here," she said. "We are together. We are the light. The Void is coming. It is hungry. It is endless. It is dark. But we are not afraid. We are not alone. We are not weak."She paused. She looked at their faces. At their fear. At their hope. At their light."We are the light. We are the hope. We are the love. And we will not let the Void win."The Keepers stepped forward.Kaelen, the Keeper of the Northern Heart, raised her staff of black ice. Her face was weathered by wind and snow. Her eyes w

Mira walked out of the darkness and into the light. The sun was rising. Not the false dawn of the Void. Not the cold gray of the siege. The real sun. Warm. Golden. Alive. It climbed over the horizon and touched the walls of the Academy, and the stones seemed to sigh with relief. She was tired. Her body ached. Her mind was foggy. Her heart was heavy. But she was alive. She was herself. She was home. The gates opened. The Keepers poured out. Kaelen. Corin. Elara. The Primeval Beasts. The students. The elders. The teachers. The healers. Everyone who had ever believed in her. Everyone who had ever loved her. Everyone who had ever hoped with her. They ran to her. They surrounded her. They held her. They wept. They laughed. They hoped."You did it," Kaelen whispered. "You actually did it."Mira smiled. It was a tired smile. A true smile. A smile that had seen the darkness and chosen the light."We did it," she said. "All of us. Together."The days that followed were quiet. The Void was gone
