Chapter 21
A guard on the left charged first. He was holding a massive spear. The blade of the spear was wrapped in roaring red fire. The thick rubber tube on the back of his armor was pumping bright red liquid, drawing raw fire magic from the network. "Die, bastard!" the guard yelled. He thrust the fire spear directly at Bruce’s throat. Bruce did not dodge. He did not even blink. He stepped directly into the attack. Bruce moved his head slightly to the left. The burning spear blade missed his neck by a single inch. The heat singed the ends of his dark hair. Before the guard could pull the spear back, Bruce reached out with his left hand. He grabbed the metal shaft of the spear, right below the burning blade. The Brand of the Void activated instantly. A pulse of purple light shot down Bruce's arm. The roaring red fire on the spear did not just go out. It was violently sucked into Bruce's palm. The magic was ripped away so fast that the air popped. But Bruce did not stop at eating the fire
Chapter 22
Bruce reached out and grabbed the freezing blue chain with his bare left hand. The terrible cold tried to freeze his blood, but the Void Brand flared. Bruce devoured the ice magic in a split second. He pulled hard on the chain. The guard was pulled forward, totally off balance. Bruce spun around and drove the hilt of his smoke-blade directly into the guard's iron helmet. The iron helmet shattered like cheap glass. Bruce placed his open hand on the guard's face. “Devour.” The guard turned to gray ash, his life essence rushing into Bruce, making Bruce even faster. The second guard swung the wind axe down. Bruce ducked. He moved so fast that the wind blade only cut the empty air. Bruce stepped inside the guard's reach. He didn't even use his sword. He drove his bare fist directly into the center of the guard's heavy iron chest plate. CRUNCH.Bruce's fist punched completely through the thick iron armor. The guard gasped. Bruce activated the Devour skill through his fist. The wind mag
Chapter 23
The giant hammer exploded into a hundred pieces of broken metal. The green lightning was instantly sucked into Bruce's fist, disappearing into his Void Brand. The Captain stumbled forward, totally off balance, holding only a broken metal stick. Bruce reached out and grabbed the front of the Captain's heavy iron skull helmet. "You called me a rat," Bruce whispered softly, looking into the dark eye holes of the mask. "But a rat only eats garbage. I eat everything."Bruce activated Devour at maximum power. The Captain did not even have time to scream. The massive surge of magic from his body was ripped out so violently that the air around them snapped and cracked. The heavy spiked armor rusted instantly. The giant man crumbled into a massive pile of gray ash, leaving nothing behind but the broken handle of his hammer. Bruce stood alone among twelve piles of dust. He took a deep breath. His body was practically glowing. He felt taller. He felt completely changed. The LitRPG progress
Chapter 24
High Inquisitor Bontus charged forward on his massive horse of solid sunlight. Behind him, fifty elite Inquisitors marched in perfect time, their golden shields and flaming swords pushing the dark shadows of the cavern away. "Burn everything until only God remains!" Bontus commanded. High up on the black obsidian platform, Lady Hestia’s face twisted in pure panic. But her panic quickly turned into furious anger. She looked down at the High Inquisitor, completely forgetting about Bruce for a moment. "You liar!" Hestia screamed at Bontus. Her voice echoed loudly over the marching boots. "We have a deal! The Iron-Heart Clan paid the holy tithe! We gave the Order of the Solar Flame your share of the magic! You promised to protect our secret!"Bruce froze. He stood on the wet stone floor, his newly enhanced ears picking up every single word. The High Inquisitor did not slow down. He pointed his flaming sword up at the Matriarch. "Deals change, Hestia. Your clan has become sloppy. You l
Chapter 25
"She looks so broken," Bruce whispered. His tough, cold exterior—the scary young man who had just devoured twelve elite guards—was completely gone. Standing in front of this cage, he was just a little boy who had missed his mother for his entire life. "Look deeper, Master," the Ashen Seraph said softly. The giant angel stepped out of the tunnel and stood beside Bruce. The Seraph’s dark, smoky wings folded tightly against its back. The angel seemed very uncomfortable in this pristine, holy room. "Mortal eyes only see the vessel," the Seraph explained. "The vessel can be starved. The vessel can be cut. But the core remains. Use your True Sight."Bruce wiped the tears from his eyes. He took a deep breath, focusing on his mana core. He blinked, and his eyes burned with silver fire. The world shifted. The blinding white walls of the room faded into the background. Bruce looked at his mother again. He gasped. Through his True Sight, the physical decay completely disappeared. Bruce di
Chapter 26
"Master, stop!" the Ashen Seraph shouted. The giant angel lunged forward, trying to grab Bruce’s arm. "Do not strike the ward! It is Holy Light! It is the exact opposite of the Void! Your core cannot eat it yet!"Bruce ignored the warning. He did not care about the rules of magic. He did not care about polar opposites. He only saw the chains piercing his mother's skin, and he wanted them broken. "Break!" Bruce roared. He swung the dark smoke-blade forward with every ounce of his newly upgraded physical strength. His Void-Forged muscles flexed, delivering a blow that could have cut a mountain in half. The Blade of Lost Tears slammed directly into the side of the Golden Cell. The result was catastrophic. When dark Void magic meets pure Holy Light, they do not mix. They annihilate each other. There was no sound at first. Just a blinding flash of pure, perfect white light that erased all color from the room. Then, the explosion hit. KA-THOOOOOM!A massive shockwave of pure holy fi
Chapter 27
High Inquisitor Bontus stood tall in the pristine white room, his face twisted into a cruel smile. He held his broad sword high. The blade was wrapped in bright, burning holy flames. Behind him, ten elite Inquisitors of the Light raised their golden shields, creating a solid wall that blocked the only exit. Bruce was trapped. He was on his knees, his breathing heavy and ragged. The terrible burns on his right arm, chest, and face throbbed with a sickening, hot pain. The holy shockwave from the Golden Cell had damaged his new Void-Forged Body. His dark mana core was flickering weakly, suppressed by the overwhelming presence of his direct elemental weakness. "Kill the Void-Born," Bontus commanded coldly. "Purge the darkness."The ten Inquisitors stepped forward as one. They raised their glowing swords, ready to cut Bruce to pieces. Bontus charged forward, swinging his flaming sword directly at Bruce's neck. Bruce tried to lift his arms to block, but his muscles refused to obey. He wa
Chapter 28
The phantom of Victoria knelt on the floor in front of him. She looked at her son. Her glowing face was filled with so much love and so much sorrow. She reached out with her ethereal hands. "My sweet, brave boy," Victoria wept softly. She gently placed her glowing hands on Bruce’s face. The touch was a phantom touch, but Bruce could feel it. It felt cool, soft, and incredibly soothing. The terrible, stinging pain of the holy burns on his face and chest instantly began to fade. Her pure soul magic was healing his damaged Void-Forged Body, stitching his broken skin back together. Bruce leaned into her touch. He closed his eyes, letting the tears fall freely. For nineteen years, he had been called a bastard. He had been treated like a dog. He had been beaten, starved, and burned. All he had ever wanted was to know that he was loved. "You're here," Bruce cried, his shoulders shaking. "I found you. I'm going to get you out. I promise, I will break that cage and we will leave this terr
Chapter 29
Victoria smiled through her tears. She looked so incredibly proud. "I know you will. You have the strength of the Void, but you have the heart of a Guardian. You must survive, Bruce. You must travel, grow your magic, and learn to master the Seraph. You are only at the beginning of your journey."CRASH!High Inquisitor Bontus hit the dome with a massive, two-handed swing of his flaming sword. The silver dome shattered like glass. The warm, protective light vanished, and the harsh, burning heat of the holy magic flooded back into the room. Bontus stood over them, panting heavily, a furious look on his scarred face. "Enough talking with ghosts!" Bontus roared. But before Bontus could step forward to strike, a massive, terrifying sound echoed through the chamber. RUUUUMBLE.The entire pristine white room shook violently. Bruce lost his balance and fell backward. Bontus staggered, looking up at the ceiling. A loud, grinding noise, like rocks being crushed in a giant machine, came fro
Chapter 30
Bruce Thompson was floating in absolute darkness. When the Ashen Seraph had pulled him backward into the shadow-rift, the noise of the collapsing ceiling and the shouting Inquisitors had instantly vanished. Inside the magical portal, there was no light, no sound, and no heat. It felt like floating in a deep, cold ocean at midnight. Bruce held his breath. He clutched his burned arm tightly against his chest. His heart was hammering against his ribs. He was terrified for his mother, but he knew he had to survive. He had to go to the Solarian Capital. He had to find the Key of Dawn. "We are safe, Master," the deep, vibrating voice of the Ashen Seraph echoed in the dark void. "The rift will take us far beyond the city walls. We will rest, and you will heal."Bruce let out a long, shaky sigh of relief. He closed his eyes. But his relief did not last even a single second. Suddenly, a bright, blinding line of golden light appeared in the pure black darkness. It looked like a glowing sc
