Chapter 1
Tap,tap,tap..The sound of keyboard clicking filled the room as Lin Chen typed furiously, writing code after code continuously. Finally, with a sigh of relief, he clicked the last key and sent the file to the company."Payment should be arriving soon," he muttered, monitoring his phone for notification. His phone pinged.Your account xxxxxx in Agricultural Bank of China just received ¥10,000He checked his balance, it was ¥15,461. It was more than enough for what he had planned tonight. Today was Su Xiaowan's birthday, and he had a big surprise ready for her..Just then his stomach growled, he rubbed his stomach as he was about to order takeout when the door burst open. Liang Hao, his best friend, marched in, he had a chubby body that got him the nickname Fatty Hao l, stuffed into skinny jeans and a skin-tight shirt, with his bob cut he looked ridiculous but he was completely unbothered about it. He always said girls liked that look and Lin Chen had long given up arguing about it."

"Lin Chen,Lin Chen!!."He heard his name before he could open his eyes. Looking up at the white ceiling. His felt like his head was splitting apart.Where am I?When his vision finally cleared, he saw Liang Hao sprinting across the hospital room toward him, his chubby body moving at surprising speed, tears streaming freely down his face."Lin Chen! You're awake! Thank God" He grabbed his shoulders and started shaking him."Stop, stop shaking me" Lin Chen pushed his hands away. "I won't be okay if you keep doing that. Tell me what happened?"Liang Hao wiped his face with his sleeve. "I should be asking you that. I left you outside, you said you were fine, but when I came back there was smoke everywhere. Your laptop was burnt and books were releasing smoke. If I hadn't come back when I did, you'd have choked and suffocated in there." He shook his head. "I rushed you straight here."Lin Chen said nothing as he was confused by what he heard.."Don't kill yourself over Su Xiaowan. She is n

Lin Chen walked back into the room, as Fatty Hao watched him with a cautious expression."Are you okay? You're acting strange. Are you sure we shouldn't go back for a checkup?"Lin Chen smiled genuinely, for the first time since last night. "I'm perfectly fine. More than fine actually." He pointed at the noodles on the desk. "Hurry up, let's eat."They slurped together, with Lin Chen eating fast as rushed it then he dropped his chop sticks fast. The moment he finished he was already packing his bag."Liang Hao, can I borrow your laptop? Mine is finished.""It's on the desk. Take it, I hardly use it at all, it's yours.""Thanks." He grabbed it and swung his bag over his shoulder."Where are you going? Be careful.""Library!" he called back from the hallway, already running.People turned to stare as he moved through the corridor."Has he gone crazy from the breakup?""Who else runs to the library after getting dumped?"He didn't hear them. He was already calculating, he had twenty-fo

Although he had already gotten some money, there was still time left on the window. Looking at the time he still had 6 hours left and he could still continue. Even though he was no longer at the risk of the system self destructing, he had to make the most of this opportunity. After all, he didn't know if the system was going to suddenly disappear. So had to milk this opportunity for all it was worth. So he opened his bag, took out an energy drink, mixed it and drank it down. He felt tired, but every time his eyes wanted to close, all he had to do was take a glance at his balance and he felt boundless energy erupting as he kept going. He opened different books at once and started reading, not stopping for anything as he devoured the contents one after the other..His phone buzzed, distracting him from reading. It was a message from Liang Hao.Ling Chen, are you okay? I haven't heard from you since this morning.Lin Chen glanced at it and typed back to assure him.I'm fine, just busy

Lin Chen returned the books to Mrs. Lee in the morning. She looked him over carefully."You stayed the whole night?."Lin Chen scratched his head sheepishly "Yes Mrs Lee, I had to finish something."She shook her head slowly, then reached under the counter and held out a packet of star biscuits. "I noticed you hadn't eaten properly. Take care of yourself." She paused, lowering her voice slightly. "Don't mind what people are saying out there, just continue what you are doing."He looked at her, touched by her genuine warmth in a week that had had very little of it."Thank you, Mrs. Lee."He walked out into the morning, feeling the bright sun but he was tired as he carried himself into the dorm.As soon as he entered he collapsed on his dorm bed and slept for five straight hours. When he woke it was noon. The dorm was being prepped for repairs because of the fire. And since he had already graduated, there was no real reason to stay anymore, so he got up, showered, and dressed in clean

Lin Chen sat at his desk and closed the biomedical engineering book. He finally had the idea. And not just any idea, the one that had been forming quietly at the back of his mind since the night he walked out of that hotel room. Before any of this happened, before the system, before the money, he had always made his living writing codes for programs, algorithms, and solutions for companies that needed things built that their own teams couldn't build. That had always been his way in. And now with everything the system had unlocked in him it was going to become something else entirely. He opened his laptop and started working on it as he researched, the next three days passed quickly. He read everything he could find on cybersecurity not just textbooks but technical papers, case studies, exploit documentation, vulnerability reports. With the beginner's intelligence the system had granted him, knowledge that would have taken weeks to absorb was locked into place in hours. He could feel

Lin Chen worked through the night. ClearShield was not just bait, it had to be genuinely good. Good enough that people downloaded it on its own merits, that it spread naturally, that nobody questioned why a free tool this capable existed. He built it properly, as it had to be appealing and very effective with a clean interface, fast scanning and effective against the overwhelming majority of viral threats currently circulating online. It would still be useless against top viruses like the Python virus buried in Wang Tech's core servers would be completely invisible to it.Lin Chen packaged it under an alias, and set up a simple distribution page. Then he wrote brief documentation on it.Then he looked at the name on the screen showing ClearShield v1.0 for a long moment before he tapped upload. It went live at 8 PM, as he could finally rest. Just as he closed his laptop. Just then he heard knocking.“Lin Chen open the door, I your Father am here!.”Lin Chen opened the door as Liang H

The morning after Lin Chen uploaded ClearShield, Wang Tech Industries opened for business as usual.Chen Dawei arrived at his desk at eight fifty-five, five minutes before his shift started, the way he always did. He was a reliable man with ten years in customer service, never late, never dramatic. He handled complaints for the e-commerce division with patience of someone who had heard every possible problem and knew that most of them had simple solutions. He sat down, logged in, and started going through his morning emails. Most were routine mails with two client follow-ups. One internal memo about the quarterly review. Then a vendor update notification near the bottom of the list software maintenance, routine patch, sender address looked legitimate enough. He had seen hundreds like it.He almost didn't open it. His coffee was still too hot to drink and he was waiting for it to cool and the email was the kind of thing that could wait until after the morning briefing. But he had a f

The line went dead as Lin Danpeng's face changed, he knew Chairman Wang was already angry. Wang Jinlong arrived forty minutes later. He was a tall man, with broad shoulders, and gray hair at his temples that he had never bothered to hide because he had never cared what people thought of how he looked. Only what they thought of what he built. He walked with the particular heaviness of someone who carried real weight, not arrogance exactly, but the absolute certainty of a man who had never lost anything he truly decided to keep. His assistant trailed behind him at a careful distance. He walked through the floor without speaking, taking in the scene, engineers hunched over screens, three separate external cybersecurity teams already set up with their equipment in different corners of the room, the collective atmosphere of a group of people who were working hard and getting nowhere. He stopped behind one of the external team leads. "How long do you need to solve this," he said with a

Lin Chen finished his last set and stepped back from the equipment.Coach Chen crossed his arms and looked at him with open surprise. "You must really be something. I demonstrated that movement only once and you already do it better than students I've been training for six months."Lin Chen smiled and reached for his towel. Just then the system pinged.[Basic Exercise — Understood. Reward: ¥100,000.][Combat study and full body alignment — yet to be mastered. Reward pending.]He made a mental note, as he turned to Coach Chen. "Can I add some basic self-defense to the sessions?""No problem at all." Coach Chen waved toward the far side of the gym. "But our self-defense instructor is away this week. Come back next week and we'll start on it.""Sure."When he went back upstairs. Liang Hao was still lying on the bed, one arm hanging off the side, snoring with complete commitment. Lin Chen went to the kitchen and started making chicken soup. He had read three recipes on it before and had
