Chapter 31: Sweet Revenge is on the way
The auctioneer first kept quiet. He was quite stunned to speak for a second.Ethan unexpectedly smiled. He somehow found this man interesting. With no hard feelings, he lowered his paddle. The auctioneer looked around the ballroom. “Six hundred million.”He raised the gavel and began to conclude, “Going once.”No one countered..“Going twice.”Ethan remained still. The other investors had long given up.“Sold.”The gavel struck the podium.Bang.Loud claps immediately rang throughout the ballroom. Some clapped enthusiastically, while others remained stunned, whispering among themselves. “For someone who can afford Six hundred million dollars on this auction, he must be stinkingly rich! Only a very few in Kent can afford that. ”“You’re right! And he looks young, so how? Or maybe he’s the heir to a foreign wealthy family.”“That’s exactly my thoughts, he must be from one of the international families.”“He doesn’t feel familiar. He’s built differently.”“Did you see Ethan Blackwood's
Chapter 32: Nana’s Burial
By 3:00 AM in the morning, Chay’s private estate had fallen into complete silence. By now, he was already home. No more laughter, music or applause in his ears. But peace and quiet. Chay stood in an open field behind his mansion. Even if it was already morning, it was still quite dark and only warm lights reached the field. The wind carried the scent of wet earth as light rain had begun to fall. Corey stood quietly behind Chay, holding a large black umbrella over his Commander. Neither of them had changed. Chay still wore the black tuxedo from the masquerade ball. His sleeves were damp and his polished shoes were slowly sinking into the soil but he was perfectly dressed for the occasion. Just in front of him was Nana’s coffin. It was open, while he stared at the body of his late grandma for a moment. Though she was dead, she looked peaceful, almost impossibly peaceful as though she was asleep. Despite the crushed side of her head where the thug’s club had lan
Chapter 33: A New Version of Chay
Later that day in the afternoon, Chay sat alone inside his study. The warm afternoon light spilled across the dark wooden floor through the large windows that stretched across one side of the room. As someone who has always loved to read, bookshelves lined the walls, while several documents were spread across the big desk in front of him. His attention had been fixed entirely on the papers in front of him almost all afternoon. They were documentation of his newly acquired shares. Shareholding structures, acquisition records, financial records, auction documentation and more. He carefully reviewed everything concerning Delloit Corporation. Just then, a soft knock came from the door. “Come in,” Chay answered without taking his focus off the papers. The doors opened, and Corey stepped inside. “Commander,” he called, before stopping a few feet from the desk. “Go ahead,” Chay answered, still focused. “We’ve been able to secure another fifteen percent of the shares,” Corey began.
Chapter 34: The Price of Control
***Chay brought his Mercedes to a stop in front of a private business club. By the time he arrived, the afternoon had already begun to fade.A valet attendant dressed in a black tailored suit, opened the door and welcomed him warmly. “Your membership card please?” Chay returned his greeting warmly and immediately showed him the card. The valet confirmed the card in seconds, and took his car keys before letting another attendant lead him inside. This club was reserved for high-profile businessmen, investors and influential families. Behind its elegant reception area were several private meeting suites designed for conversations that were never meant to reach the public.Chay already knew which suite the shareholder, Ms. Alicia was using for her meeting. Chay had gotten every necessary information from Corey, including that she was supposed to have a meeting with someone there that afternoon. Though she had the meeting scheduled for the next hour, she was already waiting for her
Chapter 35: The Price of Control
Chay’s expression changed, he was completely confused and surprised at the same time. She shook her head, still smiling.“It’s you! You really haven't changed a bit.”Chay stared at her. “You know me?”She laughed again. “Of course I do.”She leaned back in her chair, studying him as though she had just found something incredibly amusing. “You just probably don't remember me.”He studied her face, trying to see if he could recognize her. Though something about her did seem familiar at that moment, he couldn’t get a hold of it. Alicia smiled brightly. “Master Lee’s granddaughter!” she exclaimed, pointing a finger at her face. Chay’s eyes widened, “Are you serious?” “Yesss,” she replied, letting out a chuckle. “The young girl who lived with y’all for a few years. Though I eventually left, I spent a good number of years with y’all.”Suddenly the memories resurfaced. “Alicia?!” Chay exclaimed, bursting into laughter. Alicia laughed. “You remember now. How did you not even recognize m
Chapter 36: Where is Serena Jones?
Back at the Whitney family villa, Asher stared at the unfamiliar number on his phone for several seconds. This same number had called him just after noon today. When he tried to call back, the number didn’t go through.Though hesitant at first, he quickly answered the call. Who knows, it might be his mother or someone who knew where she was. “Hello?” Asher said. But silence returned from the other end. Until suddenly, a low male voice spoke, “I know where your mother is.”A chill ran down his spine and his entire body stiffened instantly. “W-what?”“I believe I’m speaking to Asher Jones,” the caller responded nonchalantly. “I said I know where your mother, Serena Jones, is.”Asher immediately stood up from his chair. “Who are you?” “You know what, that doesn’t matter,” he quickly displaced his own question. How come you know where she is? How do I know you’re telling me the truth?”The man chuckled coldly. “Because I was there. But I see you’re in doubt and I do not have the time
Chapter 37: Before the board meeting
“Where did you get this?” John asked him as he scanned the man in the photo. “I have my sources,” Felix confidently answered and took a seat just beside John. John studied the photograph more carefully. “And are your sources reliable?”“Very.”John remained silent for a moment. Then he reached into a folder beside him, pulled out another photograph and placed it on the table. He pointed at the photo Felix had brought and said, “Your sources are wrong. It’s not him.” He then pointed at the photo he had placed on the table himself. “It’s him.”Felix frowned and looked down at the new photograph. It was a middle-aged man in the photo. His face was hard and his expression was cold. Most importantly, he had a prominent scar running across one side of his face which confirmed what the captive at the hotel said. “Victor Hale,” John said.Felix's expression changed because he recognized who Victor Hale was. “Isn’t that our old rival?”John nodded slowly.“Look, he has a scar. He's been th
Chapter 38: The Board Meeting.
The boardroom was quiet. At exactly nine forty-five in the morning, every seat around the long glass conference table was already occupied. Everyone knew the rule and they always abided by it. . The walls surrounding the room were made almost entirely of transparent reinforced glass, giving everyone inside a clear view of the corporate floor outside. Yet despite the openness of the room, not a single sound from outside could enter. It was completely soundproof as sensitive and private matters were discussed here. Today, however, there was very little noise even outside. The atmosphere surrounding Delloit Corporation was unusually tense. Every employee knew what today was and everyone couldn’t to see the new shareholder. Rumors of different kind, both real and fake news had spread throughout the company. John, as the Chairman, sat at the head of the table in the boardroom. Beside him were Mariam, Felix, Claire, Asher, Gal and several other senior members of the boa
Chapter 39: The Dead Man is here.
Chay stepped inside, his head almost facing the ground. Corey also stepped inside, following immediately behind him and quietly closed the door. Chay didn’t say a word, he simply walked toward the empty seat at the other end of the table, directly opposite John. Every pair of eyes in the room followed him as his footsteps echoed softly against the polished floor. Click. Click. Click. Corey quickly stepped forward and pulled his chair out for him to sit. Chay sat down. While Corey moved behind him and stood there, his hands calmly folded in front of him. The room remained completely silent, everyone’s eyes on him as though they were waiting for him to speak. His head remained lowered slightly, his eyes fixed on the documents lying before him. A few seconds later, Chay slowly raised his head. The moment his eyes became visible, Mariam screamed out so loud that it made everyone almost jump out of their seats. “Ahhhhhhh!” Her chair violently scraped b
Chapter 40- As You Can See, I’m Not Dead.
Chay simply shook his head. The coldness in his eyes could freeze the room. And one by one, his gaze fell on each of them. And every time his eyes landed on someone, it felt like needles were piercing through their skin. What they felt was way deeper than just fear. It was the instinctive terror of seeing something that should not exist. How could someone who had been reported dead and buried in the underground chamber at Lumen be seated three meters away. Nothing made sense right now. Or was this a dream? Claire was trembling violently where she sat on the floor, close to her mother. For some reason, she couldn’t stop crying and shivering. She felt cold… not a regular kind of cold. “This can’t be real,” she shook her head, muttering to herself as she stared at Chay. “No- no, God please, no…”Chay’s gaze eventually reached John and their eyes met. For the past minute, John had not been able to breathe. And the moment his eyes locked with Chay, he began to choke. John held h
