Chapter 1: Shattered Dreams
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Adrian shouted. Ruby, his girlfriend, was on the bed with some guy's hands all over her waist, kissing him like her life depended on it, and they sprang apart. His girlfriend of four years was actually cheating on him!Earlier that day he was still standing in front of the gate telling himself maybe one day he'd get into school and be a proper student but that was impossible for him because of one reason. He wasn't born with a summon. In this world, 95% of people awaken their summon at an early age, contracted beasts that aid humans in many ways and Adrian was unfortunately among the 5% without a summon. He looked down at himself, same shirt with the hole by the collar, same slippers that had shrank all the way down and was now hurting his legs, and he almost laughed at himself for still standing there dreaming like an idiot. He had stopped chasing his dreams and started chasing Ruby's instead, ever since that night under the old oak tree wh
Chapter 2: A Man With Nothing
Adrian remained on his knees in the middle of his tiny apartment, the weight of the situation pressing down on him like an invisible mountain. The room, which already felt small on normal days, suddenly seemed even smaller with three people crowded inside it. The air was thick with tension and the sharp scent of cigarette.Smoke lit another one off the cigarette, took a long drag, and blew it up at the ceiling. His eyes went around the furniture, the mattress in the corner, the peeling paint, and he clicked his tongue."This is one small room, Adrian." Another puff. "Feels like I'm wearing the damn thing."The one smoking was the one doing most of the talking. His name was Smoke."But I didn't come here to judge your taste in housing." His voice went cold. "I came for my money." He added and smirked.Adrian kept his head down, staring at the floorboards, his heart slamming so hard.Smoke crouched down until they were eye level, cigarette hanging from his mouth, just watching him."
Chapter 3: Another Shot At Life
When Adrian opened his eyes again, the world around him had completely changed.Pure, endless darkness stretched in every direction. The only thing breaking the void was a pristine white staircase beneath his feet, glowing softly as it spiraled upward until it vanished into nothingness far above and everywhere else was just dark with no walls, no ceiling or nothing to hold onto if he fell.He started wondering if he had truly died, then guessed this was heaven or something like that."Where am I?" he said out loud, and his own voice just came back at him as an echo, because his current location was empty and it was echoing all round. He raised his shirt to check the bullets and saw that there was nothing there. He didn't even feel like he had just been shot. His chest was clear, there was no wound, blood, nothing at all. He ran his fingers over his own skin like he didn't believe it either. He remembered dying, so why was he standing here talking to himself like none of that happened
Chapter 4: First Steps Towards Power
Adrian sat there for a second just staring at his own hands, still not fully believing any of this was real, and the first face that showed up in his head wasn't even Ruby's.To hell with her! It was Smoke's."I'm coming for you" he muttered under his breath, and it felt good to say it out loud even if nobody heard it but him.But he wasn't stupid enough to go looking for a fight right now. His mana was basically nothing, Noir was still at C-rank, and one bad move could end this second life before it even really started. He'd already died once today and that was enough. He knew he needed to get stronger before he did anything else. He needed knowledge first. He stood under the shower for a very long time, letting the water run down his back, scrubbing at skin that didn't even have a scratch on it anymore even though he could still feel the pain every kick had landed. When he finally stepped out he threw on the cleanest clothes he still had, then dug under the bed for the old bank ca
CHAPTER 5: THE KING'S DOMAIN
Adrian was on his phone before he even sat up in bed that morning. He was refreshing the same government app over and over, waiting for something to show up. The app had been developed by the government so people could report an emergency whenever a dungeon break happened around them and receive immediate assistance.Later on, he saw a listing about a factory break that had happened hours ago, and it was still active. He was dressed and out the door after reading the listing twice. He went to a weapons shop first, and he walked out broke, as every last dollar had gone into a B-rank dagger. It was made from the bone of a B-rank dungeon boss that had recently been killed and weaponized into what he was currently holding."Better be worth it," he muttered, turning the blade over once outside the shop and catching the light off it.The taxi dropped him in front of a gate that used to lead into a normal factory. He took a few steps after entering the factory gate before something ripped a
CHAPTER 6: THE TYRANT OF THE DUNGEON
Silence fell over the huge room as sweat rolled down Adrian's face despite the cold temperature. Standing before the Goblin King made the other goblins they had fought feel like children holding wooden swords. The Goblin King's eyes glowed as a smile appeared on his face, as if already anticipating the battle to be a glorious one.The stone floor beneath his feet cracked as he charged at them with a burst of speed. Despite the King's huge size, he was fast. In a few strides, he appeared before them, much to Adrian's surprise, but Noir was ready and used his broadsword to block the axe that almost crashed on Adrian. The floor cracked under Noir's boots as the knight held his ground for several tense seconds, his muscles straining, before he managed to push back, making the Goblin King take a few steps backward. The King didn't stop attacking. He pressed forward aggressively, swinging his axe in powerful attacks that forced Noir into a defensive position. Sparks flew wildly in every dir
CHAPTER 7 - THE FIRST HUNT
The steady beeping of machines and the sharp, smell of medicine pulled Adrian back into consciousness. The Bright lights forced him to squeeze his eyes shut before slowly opening them again. His vision was blurry for a few seconds before finally getting clear. He was lying on a hospital bed with an IV drip was attached to his arm and soft bandages wrapped around parts of his body.“You’re awake,” a calm female voice said.A young nurse walked into the room, clipboard in hand. She had a gentle face, neat hair tied back, and a professional yet soft expression on her face. Adrian blinked at her for a moment before a tired smile formed on his lips.“Woah… is this heaven?” he asked, squinting dramatically. The nurse stopped, looking slightly worried. “What? No. Why would you ask that?”“Then why am I seeing an angel standing in front of me?” Adrian replied with a weak but playful grin. The nurse stared at him for a second before letting out a genuine laugh. She reached over and lightly pok
CHAPTER 8: THE HUNTER BECOMES THE HUNTED
It was currently afternoon, and the sun was shining brightly in the sky. Adrian walked through the empty street, hands in his pockets, walking without caution or any need to look behind him, but it was all a ruse. This was the side of town where abandoned industrial companies were located. A part of Ashvale had been left behind years ago. Factories had closed, workers were gone, and only the occasional scavenger or criminal still bothered to walk these streets.Outwardly, Adrian looked like any other young man taking a walk. Inside, however, every sense remained sharp. After everything that had happened, he no longer trusted these quiet streets. He already suspected that he was being followed, and to confirm he was right, the system notified him that he was being followed. So he came out here to these empty streets to lure the person out.The familiar blue system panel appeared in front of him.[Main Quest Updated]A hostile presence has been following Host for the past ten minutes.O
CHAPTER 9: THE DEVIL'S DEN
Adrian pushed open the heavy steel door and walked into the warehouse, and every conversation inside stopped at once.Over thirty men turned toward the entrance. Some sat on wooden crates playing cards, while others leaned lazily against support pillars with baseball bats resting on their shoulders.A few of them cleaned knives while another absentmindedly spun a pistol around his finger. The air smelled of cigarettes, sweat, and old oil.The moment they recognized Adrian, the warehouse erupted into mocking laughter.“So that’s him?”“The dead kid?”“I expected someone bigger.”“Boss really sent all of us for one brat?”Adrian stepped fully inside and calmly scanned the space. Thirty-two men after a brief headcount. Even though he was outnumbered, he had no fear on his face. The warehouse had one main entrance and no obvious secondary exit. The layout was almost perfect for what he intended. His gaze shifted to the man standing closest to him.“Where’s Smoke?”The thug scratched his t
CHAPTER 10: BRAINS OVER BRUTE
Adrian stood breathing hard, his body was still trying to recover from the earlier fight with the thugs.Meters away from him was Smoke who had now fused with his summon. The green eyes glowed with pure intelligence, Smoke's intelligence.“I’m going to enjoy killing you again, boy.” a deep voice spoke from the Snake's mouth.Adrian spit out blood from his mouth and stared at the Black enormous mamba towering over him. He then whispered “Noir, Go" The knight dissolved into black smoke immediately and disappeared into Adrian's shadow.Adrian then activated the Night Vanguard cloak again and dashed forward towards the Mamba with his Dagger in his hand. The Mamba struck with terrifying speed, it's head shot downwards towards the approaching Adrian but he was fast enough to dodge as the attack made a deep hole on the ground.Adrian then jumped up and attacked with his Dagger, driving it into the snake scales but the blade bounced off without leaving a scratch.Adrian was still mid air whe
