Chapter 071
Breakfast was not a pleasant affair. The food was just fine, yes, but the problem was that one's digestion was generally not improved by having one stare at you. All throughout breakfast, Nicholas stared at me. I could see that he was looking at me and watching me out of the corner of my eye, so I continued eating and chatting with the rest of the girls as per normal. After hearing what he had said the previous night about killing me once I had outlived my usefulness, I was determined to try and avoid riling him up.I just hope he's not suspicious of me, I thought fervently. He might come after Euphie and I if he thinks we're up to something. After breakfast, Nicholas made his move. We had gone to the river to wash out the pan, and had already rinsed the leaves we had been using for plates, stacking them neatly on the ground of the cave so that we could use them again. After we were done with the chores that breakfast had brought about, Nicholas approached me, sauntering o
Chapter 072
The question was not what Felicia was looking for, but rather what was looking for both of us. I watched as she walked right into the long grass, staying on the edge of the large field for my own safety. My heart skipped a beat as I reached for my own trusty kitchen knife, unsheathing it as I monitored her progress. Then, I heard the hiss again. Fuck! Do I warn her about it? I wondered, unable to make up my mind. If I warn her, she'll be able to get away in time, but she'll definitely know I've been following her if I do! The decision was made for me a mere minute later. I heard a loud rustling to her right, and then the grass began swaying violently, as though something large were bashing its way through!"Watch out!" I hollered instinctively, cupping my hands around my mouth. "Watch out, Felicia!" She turned around slowly, spotting the movement just in time. Hastily, she took a few steps forward, but it did not deter the creature chasing after her. Instead of running off
Chapter 073
We had no choice but to wait. The Komodo dragon looked like it had settled in for the long haul too, since it remained at the bottom of the tree, arching its squat neck to look up at us. Its long tongue flicked in and out, as if tasting the air – or tasting our fear and sweat – and I shuddered."Why did you come here?" I asked Felicia, trying to distract myself from the ravenous beast right below."I needed to do something," she replied, before her eyes narrowed. "And what on earth were you doing, then? Answer me, Forrest Chapman!" I glared at her instinctively, responding to her anger. "Were you following me?""Alright. I guess I was," I replied, resigned. There was no point hiding it from her, since she had figured it out. "I was following you. I don't trust your brother entirely, and I thought he sent you on a mission.""He didn't," Felicia muttered, scowling at me. "I just had something I needed to do.""Something with a hunk of boar meat fro
Chapter 074
People have had sex in some very strange places. Outside of beds, people have been known to have sex in cars, on airplanes, on boats, and even in public places like bathrooms or parks. What Felicia and I were about to do, though, probably took the cake. Who else could say that they had had sex while in a tree?"Bringing a new meaning to that nursery rhyme, huh," I muttered as Felicia swallowed around me another time, making me twitch. She pulled off my dick with a loud pop, her lips shiny and slick with saliva."What?" she asked, confused. If I could have slapped myself without looking foolish, I would have. Trust my brain to come up with something to kill the mood!"You know, the one that goes like this. Someone and someone sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g…""Oh! First comes love, then comes marriage. Then comes baby in a baby carriage," Felicia recited, giggling girlishly as she did so. "Wow, that brings back some memories. Speaking of sitting in a tree
Chapter 075
"Anyway, there's one more thing you need to know. If you want to be with me, Forrest, you'll have to stop associating with all the rest of the girls," Felicia continued. She blinked her large, doe-like eyes at me, and I could have sworn I detected a hint of amusement from the shock I had to have displayed upon hearing her words."What?" I blurted out, unable to contain my dismay. "Why would I have to stop hanging out with the rest of my colleagues? They're your colleagues too, you know!""I'm possessive, don't you see?" Felicia said lightheartedly. She nudged at my hand with hers, interlacing her fingers with mine. I would have seen it as a sweet gesture, but the way she had casually asked me to renounce the rest of the girls made it seem a little creepy. "I don't want to share. In fact, I never share my things. If you're going to be with me, then you're going to need to tell the other girls to leave!"A chill ran up my spine. Since none of us were particularly skille
Chapter 076
What other choice did I have? Nicholas and Dave were clearly afraid of the beast, and relying on the rest of the girls was not the best option, either. Elsa had the bow I made her, and Euphie had a knife and a bow. Still, I doubted that any of them would be able to drive the Komodo dragon away, and I feared that engaging with it would draw its brethren to the scene, too.I climbed down to the first branch we had alighted on, leaving Felicia up in the tree, before taking a deep breath and leaping the rest of the way to the ground. It was only about two meters or so, which was a blessing in disguise. I would have broken a bone or twisted something, at least, if the tree had been much larger or taller. Once I landed, I began sprinting, heading toward the large expanse of tall grass and away from the rest of the girls.“Watch out!” Elsa yelled, and I jumped clear to the side as the Komodo dragon rushed at me, missing me by a hair’s breadth. Right after the dr
Chapter 077
I did not consider myself a man who got angry easily. Unlike others – Hans came to mind – who raged at every little inconvenience, I considered myself fairly level-headed. Flying off the handle was not something I was known for. Still, Nicholas’s incredulity stoked fury in me, and I stalked toward him, infuriated by what he had just revealed.“You’re a selfish son of a bitch, aren’t you?” I spat, looming over him where he sat. “So much for working together! You don’t give a shit about any of us – you only care about your precious sister! You couldn’t have cared less if the Komodo dragon mauled me to death. You left me, Elsa, Yvonne, Euphie, and Rosie to die! Is that what you call teamwork?”“This is all a misunderstanding, Forrest,” Nicholas began, getting up. “I didn’t leave you all to die. I came back to grab my machete, since I didn’t have it on me earlier. See?”
Chapter 078
Nicholas did not turn pale. He turned a very unflattering shade of puce as he snarled at me again, looking nothing more like a dog with full knowledge of the fact that it was chained up and unable to lunge any further than the length of its chain. The chain, in Nicholas's case, was the fact that Felicia had her hand on his forearm. I was quite sure that he would have killed me otherwise."Did being attacked by the Komodo dragon make you go insane?" Nicholas demanded, glaring at me. The rest of the girls had to be thinking the same—all of them were looking at me in shock, as though unwilling to believe that I had just decided that we would not be working with Nicholas any longer."I think you're the one who needs to rethink their next steps," I retorted, rolling my eyes freely. "I'm sure about this, and I know it's the best option to take. Nicholas, you weren't sincere about helping the girls and I survive in the first place. Dave revealed as much when he said that go
Chapter 079
After eating, we split up and went back to our respective places to sleep. The girls would be sleeping in the cave for one last night, since there was hardly that much animosity between them, whereas I had ceded the shelter to Nicholas and Dave. There was a part of me that felt that I was being too charitable, but when I looked at them lying down under the shelter we had built together, I knew that I had not lost out on much. The shelter provided a rudimentary roof over one's head, but it provided no real protection from the elements. The benefits were mainly psychological, after all. I curled up around the second fire I had built, dropping off to sleep."Forrest, wake up," someone whispered. I took a while to surface from sleep, having been tired out from the vicious fight with the Komodo dragon earlier that day. The wounds on my shin were still smarting, although the clove paste had helped quite a lot.Rubbing my eyes, I looked at the person who had whispered in my ear.
Chapter 080
I saw Rosie off into the cave, watching her stumble in and lie down next to Claire before I turned away, going back to the second fire I had built. The flames had died down a little, so I stoked the meager flames with a little more wood before slumping down next to it, sitting cross-legged. As the flames flared up higher, giving off a wave of heat, I buried my head in my hands and doubled over, pressing my forehead as close to the floor as I could.Just what was going to happen to all of us? Was Nicholas really going to succeed in blackmailing the pirates? Was he really going to get Felicia, himself, Dave, Claire, and Rosie off the island with the pirates' speedboats? Did I really have the ability to last long enough on this island with the rest of the girls until someone came for us, or had I just doomed everyone by deciding not to work with Nicholas any longer? If no one came for us, would we live out the rest of our lives here until we died?It took me a little while to
