Chapter 11: The Cross Patriarch MovesThe emergency room of the city's private hospital was locked down by heavily armed men. Inside the trauma unit, doctors worked frantically around a bed, their hands covered in blood. On the table lay Viktor Cross. His face was unrecognizable, his jaw held together by metal pins, and his chest barely moved as a machine pumped air into his lungs.Standing outside the glass wall of the room was a man in an expensive black suit. He held a cane with a silver handle, his fingers gripping it so hard his knuckles turned white.Alaric Cross. The head of the Cross family and the leader of the city's largest underground empire. His face was lined with age, but his dark eyes were cold and filled with fury.A doctor stepped out of the trauma unit, pulling off his bloody latex gloves. He bowed his head nervously before Alaric."Lord Alaric," the doctor said, his voice shaking. "We have stabilized your son, but the damage is severe. His jaw is completely shatte

Chapter 12: Dismantling the Monroe FamilyNatasha walked out of the hospital with a tight, vindictive smile playing on her lips. The cold night air hit her face, but she barely felt it. In her high-end leather purse, the signed document transferring Alessia’s final one percent share in the Monroe Group rested safely. Her father, Blac Monroe, rushed behind her, his forehead glistening with nervous sweat as they stepped into the back seat of their luxury sedan."Natasha, are you sure Lord Alaric won't blame us for Viktor's state?" Blac asked, his voice trembling as the driver pulled away from the hospital. "If the Cross family turns on us, our loans will be called in instantly. We will lose everything!""Relax, Father," Natasha said, pulling out the paper and admiring Alessia's signature in the dim streetlights. "Lord Alaric knows Alessia and her nameless soldier are the real targets. The Red Vipers will hunt them down like dogs before morning. Meanwhile, we have what we came for."She

Chapter 13: Brutus Swears AllegianceBrutus stepped out of the ruined underground auction house into the cool night air. The heavy scent of iron and smoke still hung on his skin. He looked down at his huge, calloused hands, stained red with the blood of Viktor Cross's men. For years, those hands had done the dirty work of a spoiled syndicate heir. He had believed Viktor held real power in Crestfall. He had been wrong. Dead wrong.Seeing the gold eagle insignia on Draven Mercer's vest had shattered every lie Brutus lived by. He knew that crest. Every man who had ever served in the military knew it. It belonged to the Supreme War Commander, a living legend who had single-handedly broken entire foreign armies. To challenge a man like Draven was not just foolish—it was suicide.Brutus took a deep breath, filling his chest with air, and wiped his face with the back of his forearm. He had beaten Viktor within an inch of his life, breaking his ties to the Cross family forever. But Brutus k

Chapter 14: Julie's First Day in the Command CenterThe massive silver doors slid open with a soft, mechanical hiss.Alessia stepped into the hall first, leaning lightly on a wooden cane. Her broken ribs were wrapped tightly under her simple sweater, and though every step still caused a dull ache, her face looked healthy and full of color for the first time in years.Holding her hand tightly was little Julie. They were inside the central command center of the Supreme Military Base. The room was vast, high-ceilinged, and filled with glowing blue screens that covered entire walls. Dozens of military officers in sharp dark uniforms sat at the desks, typing rapidly on keyboards and speaking quietly into their headsets. Satellite maps of the nation flashed in real time, tracking ships, aircraft, and other units across thousands of miles. It looked like something straight out of a science-fiction movie."Mama," Julie whispered, her voice filled with awe as she squeezed Alessia's hand. "Is

Chapter 15: The Military Council TrapThe low hum of the military helicopter filled the dark cabin as it flew through the night sky toward the capital city. Inside, the red cabin lights cast long shadows across the metal walls.Draven sat near the front, his arms crossed over his chest. His face was cold and still. Beside him, Marcus was typing rapidly on a secure military laptop, reviewing files sent from the High Command.Alessia and Julie were not with them. Draven had left them at the Crestfall fortress under the heavy protection of Brutus and fifty elite soldiers. He had promised Alessia that he would return by morning. But as the towering skyline of the capital came into view, Draven knew this trip would not be simple. Two hours ago, the Prime Minister and the Senior Military Council had issued an emergency summons. Draven was accused of using the nation’s top military assets for personal matters. Specifically, using state troops to destroy the Monroe Group and dismantle the Cr

Chapter 16: The Standoff at the City GatesThe double doors of the High Council Chamber burst open. Draven walked out with long, deliberate strides, his dark trench coat billowing behind him. His face was a mask of cold steel. Behind him, Marcus followed closely, holding his sidearm tightly.General Raymond Cross stood near the elevator, surrounded by twenty armed guards. A smirk was plastered across his aging face."You made the wrong choice, Mercer," Raymond sneered, stepping into Draven's path. "The moment you walked out on the Prime Minister, you signed your own warrant. You are a traitor now. Guards, arrest him!"Draven didn't even slow down. Before the guards could raise their rifles, Draven moved like a shadow. He grabbed the front of Raymond's uniform, lifted the older general off his feet, and slammed him hard against the marble wall. The guards instantly aimed their weapons at Draven, but Marcus pulled his gun with lightning speed, locking his target on Raymond’s head."Tell

Chapter 17: The Secret in the Monroe VaultThe tension outside the northern gates of Crestfall was thick enough to cut with a knife, but inside the city, the silence was heavy. In the war room, officers moved around quietly, monitoring the two-hour clock ticking down on the main wall display. Raymond Cross’s tanks remained idle on the plains, sixty dark shapes waiting patiently for war command.Marcus walked into the war room, straight past the tables and stopped beside Draven, who was reviewing the city's defense grids with Brutus."Commander," Marcus said in a low tone that did not carry across the room. "A specialized unit finished clearing out the Monroe estate thirty minutes ago. While searching the lower study behind the main library, they found a false wall.""What is that?" Draven asked his sharp eyes dropping to the burner steel box. "It belonged to Alessia's late mother, Evelyn Monroe," Marcus explained, keeping the box on a side table. "It was hidden inside a floor safe

Chapter 18: A Mother's Strength The underground bunker beneath the Crestfall fortress was quiet, but the air felt heavy with the threat of war. Deep concrete walls muffled the distant sounds of military boots, heavy trucks, and blaring sirens above.Alessia sat on the edge of a small military cot, staring down at her trembling hands. The discovery of her mother’s secret letter had completely shattered the quiet life she had tried to build. For ten years, she had carried a terrible weight. She had blamed herself for bringing shame to her family, for living in extreme poverty, and for being unable to give her daughter a safe home. Now she knew the truth. Her misery was not an accident. Her own father, along with the Cross family and Prime Minister Kane, had carefully planned every single detail. They had stolen her youth, hidden the truth from Draven, and left her mother to suffer without proper medicine.Tears welled in her brown eyes, but she wiped them away with the back of her ha

Chapter 19: A Mother's Strength Draven pushed open the heavy door to the training room, the soft metallic sound echoing off the padded walls.Marcus instantly snapped to attention, stepping back from the table. Alessia turned, still holding the dark training weapon. Her cheeks were flushed from effort, and light beads of sweat glistened along her hairline. For a brief second, she looked almost embarrassed to be caught, but she did not hide the weapon behind her back. She held her chin high, looking directly into Draven's eyes.Draven walked slowly across the room. He stopped right beside her, his tall, imposing frame standing close enough that she could feel the heat radiating off him. He looked down at her hands, observing her grip on the frame."Your thumb is resting too close to the slide," Draven said softly. His deep voice carried no anger or judgment, only calm instruction. He reached out, his broad, calloused hands gently covering hers. His touch was firm yet remarkably caref

Chapter 20: The Secret MessageThe heavy concrete walls of the underground bunker were built to withstand a full missile strike. Deep below the surface, far beneath the high-tech war room and the training facilities, the air was cool, quiet, and stale. In the residential wing, the main lights had been dimmed to allow the residents to rest. White emergency strips along the floor cast a faint blue glow across the long, empty hallways. At the far end of the corridor, in the part of the bunker where Alessia and Julie were sleeping, a lone figure moved silentlyThe person was dressed in the standard dark grey jumpsuit of the base maintenance crew. A heavy toolbox was slung over one shoulder, and a blue baseball cap was pulled low, shading their face from the overhead security cameras. The technician stopped outside door 402—the room where Alessia and Julie were staying.Instead of pulling out a standard maintenance keycard, the strange technician reached into a side pocket and pulled out a
