The silence inside the rental car was no longer just the absence of noise; it was a physical entity, heavy and suffocating, thick with the scent of wet upholstery and stagnant industrial air. Raka sat with his hands frozen at ten and two, staring at the peeling yellow sign of the Sector 4 hub. Beside him, Suthida finally lowered her tablet. The blue light faded from her features, replaced by the gray, dismal reality of the northern district. She didn’t look at him, but her presence was a magnetic force in the small, cramped cabin."We aren't here for the scenery, Raka," she said, her voice devoid of its usual sharp edge. There was something else there—a weariness that mirrored his own. "Every minute we sit here staring at a piece of rusted sheet metal is a minute the board thinks we’re failing to audit this site. And if we fail the audit, your father gets exactly what he wants: a reason to sideline us both."Raka took a sharp breath, the air tasting of sulfur and damp concrete. "I kno

lThe silence inside the rental car was no longer just the absence of noise; it was a physical entity, heavy and suffocating, thick with the scent of wet upholstery and the encroaching smell of the industrial district’s stagnant drainage. Raka sat with his hands frozen at ten and two, staring at the peeling yellow sign of the Sector 4 hub. Beside him, Suthida finally lowered her tablet. The blue light that had illuminated her sharp, analytical features faded, replaced by the gray, dismal reality of the northern district. She didn’t look at him, but her presence was a magnetic force in the small, cramped cabin."We aren't here for the scenery, Raka," she said, her voice devoid of its usual sharp, venomous edge. There was something else there now—a cold, calculated weariness that mirrored his own. The silence that followed Raka’s refusal to answer the phone was not the empty, vacuous silence they had shared for the past week. It was a dense, tactical quiet, the kind that exists in the seconds before a firing squad executes its duty or a high-stakes deal collapses. Raka’s thumb hovered over the screen, watching the name Surya pulse like a rhythmic infection. The light from the device illuminated the interior of the rental car—a cramped, soul-crushing sedan that smelled of stale cigarettes and industrial cleaner—casting long, jagged shadows against Suthida’s face. She wasn’t looking at him. Her gaze was fixed somewhere beyond the mud-streaked passenger window, where the skeleton of a dormant conveyor belt loomed over the rainy horizon."If you don't answer," Suthida said, her voice barely a whisper, "he knows you’ve seen the file. If you do answer, you have to play the part of the oblivious golden boy. Do you think you can manage that, Raka? Or has the weight of your own name fin

l"I've spent my entire life playing the part," Raka snapped, though the bite was gone from his tone. He looked at the phone, then at Suthida. For the first time since their mandated journey began, he wasn't looking at a rival. He wasn't seeing the woman who had made it her mission to undermine his every professional maneuver or the calculated architect of his humiliation during the spicy cracker disaster. He was looking at someone who understood, perhaps better than anyone else on the planet, exactly how deep the rot in Thorne Global truly went. The phone screen went dark, the name Surya vanishing into the black abyss of the glass. The silence returned, but this time, it was heavy with the weight of an unspoken pact."He's not just a mole, Raka," Suthida said, finally turning to face him. Her eyes were sharp, devoid of their usual condescension. "If it were just Surya, he would have been caught months ago. He’s reckless. He drinks too much, he talks too loudly at the lounge, and he le

l"He’s a smoke screen. A distraction. Someone, somewhere, is using him to test our response times."Suthida’s words hung in the stale, recycled air of the rental car, more lethal than any boardroom threat. Raka shifted his grip on the steering wheel, his palms slick with a cold, involuntary sweat. Outside, the industrial wasteland of Sector 4 groaned under the relentless deluge, the iron skeletons of abandoned shipping containers silhouetted against the bruised purple of the twilight sky. It was a place where things were left to decay, much like the company he was supposed to inherit."If Surya is just a pawn," Raka murmured, his voice sounding hollow to his own ears, "then who is playing the game?"Suthida shifted in the passenger seat. She didn't look at him; she was watching a flicker of neon from a nearby, half-collapsed warehouse, her expression unreadable. "Think, Raka. Think about the last six months. The 'Gold-Flake Noodle' incident wasn't ju
