Arthur raised his hand and brought it down on the table with enough force to make the entire surface crack. His aura burst outward, and the pressure filling the room became more intense as a red glow spread through the air.“Craegar Drakemont! You shouldn’t have been killed. You should have resisted to the end so I can personally tear you apart with my own hands,” Arthur raged, his eyes burning with fury.Quinn looked at him with mild amusement. He understood what Arthur was feeling. The betrayal must have cut deeply because Arthur had genuinely trusted Craegar Drakemont. Unlike the others, whom he had always suspected might betray him eventually, Craegar had been someone Arthur believed would stand with him.Vyyar cleared her throat, and the man beside her adjusted himself in his seat. Gavyn Froshmmer looked around awkwardly, clearly unsure whether he should say anything. After giving Arthur enough time to calm down, Vyyar continued.“Some of the warriors in the Wing Brigade were tra

The room became even quieter.Everyone stared at Quinn with a mixture of surprise and disbelief. Nobody seemed to have expected him to suggest something like that, yet Quinn only returned their looks with a warm smile.“What do you think of my plan?”Arthur’s surprise gradually turned into thoughtfulness. After considering it for a moment, he nodded.“That seems like something that could work.”The others also seemed to accept the idea, but their attention soon turned toward the only outsider in the room, Gavyn Froshmmer, the Association member who had just become chairman of the Blanktar branch.Gavyn noticed everyone looking at him, and the color drained from his face.Quinn raised one hand to his chin and rubbed it thoughtfully, a sly smile forming on his face.“I say, what if Gavyn Froshmmer goes and spoils our plan? He would want the noble title, right? And we can’t really trust him. After all, he was alive while his peers were dead.”Gavyn trembled.A cold feeling ran down his s

Quinn understood exactly what Arthur was trying to accomplish. By announcing to the entire Empire that Quinn would be sent to the Capital as the Emperor’s guest and taught within the Imperial Court, Arthur was creating a shield around him with nothing more than words.Once the announcement was made, the Emperor would have little choice but to accept Quinn. And anyone thinking about harming the Emperor’s guest would have to think twice.Smart.That was exactly why Quinn could never afford to underestimate Arthur.Quinn nodded.“Going to the Capital might be giving the Emperor more power over the West. But it’s still far better than letting the other Dukes tear us apart.”The Zelyrith Empire was not ruled by the Emperor alone. Each Region had considerable independence and handled most of its own internal affairs. In terms of influence and military strength, the Grand Dukes could stand on almost equal ground with the Emperor. The Regions were powerful enough to become kingdoms on their o

They stood on the battlements, overlooking the army gathered across the plains below. Quinn stood with Taurus, Freya, and several members of the New Dawn and Dragon Guards, all of them focused on the forces that continued to gather in front of the fortress.Freya frowned as she studied the army. “There’s about two thousand of them, but their numbers are constantly swelling. Seems the first wave was pulled together hastily while others joined.”The outpost they occupied was known as the Last Tooth Fortress, a stronghold built to mark the true boundary of Drakemont territory. It served as both the final line of defense and the first point of entry into the region, which was why Arthur had ordered it to be constructed in such a strategic location.By now, an army dressed in red had filled the land before the fortress, with the Dragon flag flying proudly above Drakemont’s soldiers. One thing Arthur had invested heavily in was the military, and it was obvious from the moment Quinn looked a

Before long, they reached the Drakemont formation, and the guards parted to allow Eldrin Donnathan and four members of the Bloodied Leaves through. The group walked toward them and stopped before Arthur.Eldrin did not bow immediately. His gaze passed over Quinn and settled on the Duke, his expression grave as he studied the Dragon Lord. Only after a moment did he give a shallow bow. “Honorable Grace.”Grand Duke Arthur Drakemont looked at him and nodded firmly. “Eldrin Donnathan, why have you brought an army to the territory of the Grand Duke?”Eldrin straightened, his eyes turning cold. “Grand Duke?”Arthur’s eyes narrowed at the question, but he said nothing.Eldrin shook his head with a look of sadness. “Grand Duke Arthur. I am saddened to hear about what happened to you in your territory. Please accept my condolence.”Quinn studied Eldrin’s expression carefully, trying to determine whether the young man had been surprised to find Arthur alive. There was too much going on for him

The tension between them had reached its peak. It was so intense that even the slightest wrong move could turn the entire meeting into a battle. Whatever polite words they had exchanged before were gone now. Neither side was pretending anymore.Eldrin stood straight, his expression hard and his eyes cold. “Declare war on you? How can a Duke do such a thing to his Grand Duke? I am only here to retrieve my father. Anything that stands in my way….”Arthur snorted coldly. “Oh? You will storm my fortress and do as you want? The army of the Red Leaves is impressive indeed, but not enough to fell a Dragon.“The Dragon of the West that has its tail coiled around the whole Region.”“Are you sure that’s the truth? The thing on the street, the rumors in the West right now is that the long shadow of a liz… Dragon was long gone from here. We don’t have fear of such beasts again.”Quinn stiffened.Eldrin might as well have said fuck you to the Drakemonts. Quinn could not stand him for it.Why did h

Vyyar raised her brows. “You think the Duke of the Red Leaves is working together with the other Dukes?”Arthur did not answer. Instead, he turned toward Quinn and gestured for him to respond.‘…wait…is he testing me? Teaching me things for when I become the Dragon Lord?…’Quinn found the thought amusing, but he answered the question anyway. “I suspect they are indeed working together. That was why Duke Jarred Donnathan had the boldness to send his army before him. He must be expecting them to join him.“Now though, things have changed, and they would rather watch from afar for what is going to happen. Likely let us fight the Red Leaves and then swoop in to take all.”Vyyar frowned. “But why didn’t they do all of this earlier? Why now? They’ve been fighting among each other for years. Why do they want to unite and fight us now?”Quinn shrugged and pointed at himself. “Because there was no me before. Now though, I’m here, and the crumbling Drakemont might just have a fighting chance af

The Head Healer walked down the hallway, his footsteps barely making a sound against the stone floor. His expression remained calm and composed, but his thoughts were anything but peaceful. Too many conflicting emotions were running through his mind as he made his way toward the room at the end of the corridor. He wore a long, dark robe with his hands covered by leather gloves, while the hood cast a shadow over his eyes. Before long, he reached a metal door guarded by several red-eyed Dragonkin warriors. He slowed down as he approached. “I’m here to take a look at the patient.”His voice was calm and warm. The Dragonkins nodded and immediately moved aside. Warriors, soldiers, and almost everyone else knew better than to offend a healer, especially the Head Healer of Blanktar. The man gave them a gentle smile before entering the room, and the metal door closed and locked behind him.“It’s almost as if they could really guard against what’s in this room,” he muttered as he looked around

It was a dagger.A black dagger that looked as though it had been carved from darkness itself, with tiny, almost invisible runes etched along its surface. The hilt appeared to be made of wood, though it had been dyed such a deep black that it was difficult to tell.Quinn picked up the dagger. “This is the the dash dagger. Don’t ask, I don’t know who named it such. But one interesting thing about it was that it killed a Dragon Lord once.“Used by an assassin, and since then it’s been in the family. It’s usually gifted to members that show high aptitude for the assassin fighting style.“Here, it’ll be yours for now too. Check out its special use.”Canute accepted the dagger with a solemn expression. He ran his fingers lightly over its surface before raising it and testing its weight and balance. He then swung it through the air, yet the weapon made no sound as it passed through the air.“Impressive.”Quinn smiled. “What makes it very priceless is that it’s a type of bonding artifact. Th

Quinn had a headache the next morning. It was hardly surprising after training throughout the night. Syrax had pushed him relentlessly, and Quinn himself had been too greedy to stop. The battle on the night of the attack had shown him exactly how powerless he still was and how much stronger he needed to become. The irony was almost amusing. The old Quinn would have been stunned if he could see the strength he possessed now. But Quinn was no longer that person. He had seen what true power could look like, and instead of satisfying his desire for strength, it had only made him hungrier for more. The Void Dragon had already told him there were beings far stronger than himself.“Where are we going this early in the morning, my lord?” Taurus asked. He walked beside Quinn, with Freya, the real one, on the other side. The remaining members of the Dragon Guards and the New Dawn surrounded them as they made their way through the castle.“I need to see someone. After all, we should speak with t
