Chapter Eighty Philip had barely settled into his office when Linda walked in with a folder pressed against her chest. She stopped when she saw him staring at the papers on his desk without turning a page."Are you planning to read those documents with your eyes closed, or should I come back later?"Philip raised his head. "I didn't hear you knock.""I knocked twice." Linda walked closer and dropped the folder on his desk. "Then I started wondering if you had finally decided to resign from your own company."“This is not my company, Linda. I am just a worker like you.” Linda walked further inside. She closed the door behind her revealing a backless top she wore. Philip felt a beat between his two chests before she turned to look at him. Despite himself, Philip smiled."Would you miss me?"Linda lifted an eyebrow. "Professionally or personally?"He leaned back in his chair, studying her face. "Is there a difference?"He was sure Linda asked on purpose. "There is a very big differe

Chapter Eighty two Philip returned home later than usual that night. The house was quiet when he entered, except for the television playing softly in the sitting room. He loosened his tie and glanced toward the staircase, hoping the boys were already asleep."You're back."He turned. His gaze fixed on her.Elena sat on the sofa with her legs crossed, a glass of water resting on the table before her. She was still wearing the dress she'd had on when she visited his office, although her hair was no longer neatly arranged.Philip checked his watch,"It's late, Elena. You should be in bed.” "I know what time it is.""Then why are you still awake?"She picked up her glass but didn't drink from it."I wanted to know if you would come home tonight."Philip stared at her for a moment before placing his keys on the table."I told you I would. You don't need to keep a tab on my movements.” "You also told me you had dinner plans. You didn't say when you'd be back.""Did you need something?"He

Chapter Eighty four Philip was halfway through his second cup of coffee when Mark called again."Are you ready?" Mark asked.Philip glanced at the documents spread across his desk. "I've been ready for the last thirty minutes. You're the one keeping me waiting.""I'm outside your building."Philip stood immediately."Why didn't you say that earlier?""Because I wanted to see how long it would take you to complain."Philip shook his head, grabbed his jacket, and left his office.Linda was standing near the reception desk when he passed."You're leaving again?" she asked."Just for a while.""Does your calendar know that?"Philip stopped and looked at her."Are you going to start monitoring my movements now?""Someone has to. Your meetings keep changing, you disappear without warning, and then I have to explain to everyone why the managing director isn't available.""I'm not the managing director.""Tell that to the people who keep coming to your office asking for you."He laughed sof

Chapter Eighty six Philip read Damian Blackwood's message for the fourth time before putting his phone down. The man's words were simple enough, but the timing bothered him. He had spent the morning uncovering information about a restricted medical file from 2009, and now a wealthy stranger wanted to discuss one of his children. It was too convenient."Find out how he got my number," Philip told Mark.Mark was already typing on his phone. "I'm working on it.""And check whether he has any connection to Raymond Voss, the private medical facility, or Dr. Hayes.""That may take some time." Mark replied."Then start now. You have all the fucking time to do it. That is why I am paying you.” “Can you tone your voice down a bit. I am fucking doing my work.” The air was a bit tense between the two of them.Mark looked up. "You haven't even asked what Damian wants.""He said it concerns one of the boys. What else do I need to know?""Whether he's telling the truth."Philip picked up his pho
