CHAPTER 20 — THE NUMBER 20
Adrian stared at the notification on his phone and closed it.Sleep was the only option on his mind, and he would deal with whatever Black Cross had later on.His eyes finally closed as Adrian slept peacefully, and hours later, he opened his eyes. It took him a full five minutes before his brain finally decided to start working properly. His eyes narrowed slightly as he wondered why they were contacting him at this hour.He picked up his phone and tapped the notification that appeared on the screen.[BLACK CROSS][You have been added to the group Black Cross.]Adrian stared at the message for a few seconds before it finally clicked that he had been added to a Black Cross group."Let's welcome our one and only newest member. Agent Shadowwwwwwww." Rika typed into the chat as if she knew he had just woken up and come online."Shut up, Rika. All your yapping is interrupting what I'm doing on my phone." Dante replied under her message, and Adrian knew what was coming next."Go sell your ph
CHAPTER 21 — THE NIGHTMARE
“Hey, hot stuff,” Sarah said with her smile that never failed to make Adrian's bad mood go away.“Hey, baby. How are you?” Adrian replied as they shared a kiss before she started driving. They chatted about the activities of their day before heading toward the restaurant Adrian had booked for dinner that evening. It was near perfect; the restaurant had everything they needed to enjoy their evening meal. The food was delicious, the music was soothing, and by the time they were done, Sarah was a bit tipsy, so Adrian took the wheel to drive them home.Instead of the route they usually followed, he decided to take a shortcut he had recently discovered. The couple were sharing stories and laughing together when the car hit something or was hit by something. Adrian wasn’t sure, but the next thing he knew, the car flipped violently and rolled down the road, resulting in a huge crash.Adrian became disoriented as pain filled his skull, and he tried to make sense of what was happening. Then he
CHAPTER 22 — TO THE EARTH WE COME, TO THE EARTH WE WILL RETURN
Adrian and Eric were sitting inside one of the common areas of the Black Cross underground base, enjoying a rare moment of peace. Adrian had spent the whole of yesterday inside his house with Emily taking care of him and in the evening strolling with Ash around his neighborhood. The school had given him a week break to recover so he was home throughout again today and at night, decided to come back to see his people. There were no missions, no vampires and no training. Just two hunters sitting down, laughing and having a normal conversation. Adrian leaned back in his chair as he listened to Eric talk about his younger days. “When I met girls back then, they admired my handsome face, my drip, and the way I rode my horse,” Eric said proudly making Adrian laugh. “You're seriously bragging about riding a horse?” “Of course. You think getting women was easy back then?” Eric asked, sounding mock offended. “You're something else.” Adrian said shaking his head. “Back then, there wa
CHAPTER 23 — THE SUSPECT
The car stopped in front of a dimly lit house with a black gate that opened automatically, and the car drove in.“This is my place, so y'all can use it for the night to rest, refresh, and eat. I've already dropped a message for Boss, so by morning, we should receive new orders and our next plan of action,” Noah said as he got out of the car and closed the door. The rest of them began getting out one after another until only Adrian remained in the car.Charles had to come over and drag him out as Adrian almost fell down, but Charles quickly held him close.“It's alright, man. It's all good,” Charles said as he hugged Adrian, and Adrian hugged him back.“He's dead, Charles. He's fucking dead,” Adrian said, his voice breaking.“Eric's dead, man. He's dead,” Adrian kept whispering.“I'm so sorry, Adrian,” Charles said as Adrian pulled back and looked at him.“Why are you sorry?” Adrian asked, and Charles shook his head twice.“You won't understand. It's just sad that you had to watch your
CHAPTER 24 — THE RESPONSE
For a few seconds, nobody moved as Adrian's gun remained pressed against Dante's forehead, his finger resting dangerously close to the trigger.Dante stood completely still, staring directly into Adrian's eyes. The room had gone silent, as even Charles, who usually had something stupid to say at moments like this, didn't dare open his mouth.Adrian's expression remained cold. He wasn't shaking, he wasn't shouting, and he wasn't even breathing heavily. He simply stared at Dante as if he had already decided what would happen next.“You take another fucking step, and I'll blow your brains out,” Adrian said again. “Dare me if you think I'm bluffing.”“Do it,” Dante said, walking closer as the gun was now touching his forehead.“I can see it in your eyes that you're ready to kill me, just like you promised to go ahead and kill me. What are you waiting for?” Dante suddenly screamed at Adrian.“You think I'm a Vampire, a traitor. I took an oath to protect humanity. I have the fucking Cross o
CHAPTER 25 — THE NEW BEGINNING
Victor's face remained on the huge television screen as everyone in the living room stayed quiet while waiting for him to speak.Adrian sat on one of the couches with his arms crossed, his eyes focused on Victor.Charles sat beside him while Rika and Marcus were seated across from them. Finally, Dante remained on the other side of the room.Nobody had mentioned what happened between him and Adrian since last night. The atmosphere was still uncomfortable, and it was something Victor noticed immediately.“I assume there are some unresolved issues between all of you,” Victor said as Adrian glanced toward Dante, and Dante did the same.“Yeah, Boss. You could say that,” Charles said, sighing.Victor remained silent for a few seconds before speaking again.“But that is not what we're here to discuss,” he said as everyone became serious.“As you already know, the underground Black Cross facility has been completely destroyed.”“The attack was carried out by a large number of vampires. Most o
CHAPTER 26 — THE TRAP
The elevator slowly descended through the underground shaft as Adrian stood among the rest of the team, his hands resting inside the pockets of his black jacket. For the first time since joining Black Cross, he was standing inside a completely new base. The glass, see-through elevator was far more advanced than anything he had seen in their previous facility. The walls were made of thick metallic panels, while several screens displayed different sections of the building and the security systems currently operating throughout the base."Okay... I have to admit it," Rika said, standing near the corner and looking around with wide eyes."This place is so fucking cool.""You're impressed by an elevator?" Marcus asked, chuckling."Not just the elevator," Rika replied, pointing toward one of the screens."Look at all this technology. This place looks like something straight out of a damn action movie."Dante stood quietly beside the elevator doors, his arms crossed."It doesn't take much to
CHAPTER 27 — DEATH FOR THE SECOND TIME
"Where are my friends?" Adrian shouted as it was just him and Dragon in the room."Your friends are somewhere fighting for their lives. I'm using them for sport and made a promise to all my men that anyone who brings their heads to me will rise in their ranks," Dragon said, standing a few feet away from Adrian."You're using my teammates for entertainment? How dare you!""If I were you, I wouldn't be worried about them, Adrian. I'd be worried about you," Dragon said as he turned and walked up to a table, opened a bottle of wine, and started pouring it into a cup."I'll free you on one condition. If you promise not to attack me," Dragon said and released Adrian, but as soon as his feet touched the ground, he ran forward and leaped into the air with his dagger raised. But he froze again and was sent back into the air as Dragon didn't even turn to look at him."Well, I expected that," Dragon said, raising the cup, turning, and taking a sip of the drink."What do you want with me? Why did
CHAPTER 28 — THE MONSTER WEARING HUMAN SKIN
Dragon walked to the door, about to open it, when he paused. He turned around but wasn't fast enough to react as a hand grabbed his face and slammed him deep into the wall, creating a huge crater.Adrian, who was supposed to be dead, was miraculously standing in the center of the room, staring intensely at Dragon. His throat, which had been sliced open, was now healed, and his broken arm was fully repaired.Adrian's crimson eyes were glowing fully red, as there were no signs of a human behind them, and a low growl came out of his mouth. His body began faintly emitting black smoke, and claws began to grow out of his fingers.“I knew I was right,” Dragon said as he pulled himself out of the wall, staring at the monstrosity in front of him.“You sold your soul to the devil just to get revenge. I must say, Adrian, I'm impressed,” Dragon said, taking his jacket off and throwing it away before flexing his muscles and cracking his knuckles.“I'm so going to enjoy killing you all over again,”
CHAPTER 29 — YOU'RE POPULAR NOW
The steady beeping of machines and the sharp smell of medicine pulled Adrian back into consciousness. The bright lights forced him to squeeze his eyes shut before slowly opening them again. His vision was blurry for a few seconds before finally getting clear. He was lying on a hospital bed with an IV drip attached to his arm and soft bandages wrapped around parts of his body including his chest, arms and his back.“Welcome back to the land of the living,” Adrian heard as he looked to his side to see the golden-haired beauty sitting by his side and smiling at him.“Is this heaven? Because why am I seeing an angel by my side?” Adrian said with a smirk on his face as Lirielle burst into laughter, covering her mouth. Adrian couldn't tell if she was blushing or if she just found it funny that the first thing he said when waking up from being unconscious was a pick up line.“At least the idiot hasn't lost his memory.” Another voice spoiled the whole mood as Adrian looked opposite his hospi
