CHAPTER 30 — THE CRIMSON QUEEN
Adrian opened his system panel and checked it while waiting for Victor in his office. He decided to use that time to properly go through his system and know what was happening to him.[System Identification]Name: Adrian AzumaCodename: ShadowAlliance: Black CrossRace: HumanStrength: 20Agility: 20Reaction: 20Endurance: 20Perception: 16 (+4) = 20Blood Points: 0Adrian stared at the stats, and he felt relieved when he found out that his race was still human. He was beginning to get scared and almost panicked that he was no longer human especially after everything that had been happening but since the system still classified him as Human, then that meant he was still human. And where did the 4 Blood Points come from that added to his Perception to make it twenty? Was it because he killed Dragon?Adrian knew that killing Newborn Vampires gave him 1 BP.Killing Normal Vampires gave him 2 BP.Then killing Elite Vampires gave him 4 BP?That was the only reason he could think of.“Nic
CHAPTER 31 — AMBUSH
Adrian walked toward his apartment as it was already nighttime, and the moon was high up in the sky. He could hear the honking of cars in the distance, and the babel of voices as a couple arguing in an apartment opposite his own.He had changed out of his Black Cross attire, donning a casual wear. His white shirt and black trousers made him look like another average civilian. He looked at the system's panel hovering in front of him as the grave notification still hung over his eyes like a corpse.[Mission Notification]Locate and kill the Queen of Vampires. This was the most difficult mission he'd ever gotten and even though he'd managed to kill Dragon, an Elite vampire, locating the Queen of Vampires would be impossible, much less killing her because no one knew her whereabouts. It was as if she didn't exist but the system's mission said otherwise.Adrian entered the apartment and switched on the lights. The living room was still neat, as he'd left it. There was no intrusion. These
CHAPTER 32 — DON'T OUTSHINE YOUR MASTER
It took Adrian several hours before he could recover. He opened his eyes, inhaling deeply as Ash laid beside him, staring into his eyes with a sorrowful look. She whimpered occasionally, rubbing her head against his body.“I'm okay… I'm okay…” He smiled and patted her head.He stood up and looked around and the entire kitchen was a complete mess. It'd take him a considerable amount of money to fix everything. Not that he wouldn't have been able to afford the repair cost.“Let's cook another noodles, Ash…” he grumbled as he stood up.He was midway through the cooking when the doorbell rang. He squinted, wondering who was at the door at such an ungodly hour. The recent attack made him very vigilant.“Ash, you know what to do,” he instructed his dog as he walked to the living room.Ash followed quietly, baring its fangs as It then ran past him toward the door. Adrian grabbed his handgun lying on the center table. He'd been so tired he'd forgotten to hide it and didn't even think of the
CHAPTER 33 — LUNCHBREAK
There was free period, and Adrian didn't have anything to do so he chatted with Emily who was also free. She'd used her lunchbreak to come here and some students watched the duo curiously, while others focused on their activities. The classroom was relatively silent.Adrian would have gone to his office, but it was a hassle so there was no need to do that.“Don't outshine your master, huh?” Emily said as she raised an eyebrow.“You were listening to my teaching?” Adrian asked as he sat up.There was no other chair, so Emily sat on the desk. Adrian had offered her his chair, but she refused as the desk seemed more comfortable to her, for unknown reasons.“Of course!” Her pitch was slightly high. “I'd give anything to listen to you… Alas, I have a job and can't afford to lose it.”“I thought you didn't fear anything.”Adrian said as he laughed“Now you know.” She replied pouting.Silence ensued between two of them as only the murmurings of the students and the ticking of the wall clock
CHAPTER 34 —FAMILIAR, YET STRANGE
Adrian spent a few more minutes in Emily's office. He had to leave when a student from another grade came in, looking sick.“See you later,” Emily smiled at him as he walked out of the office.“See you around,” Adrian said, gripping the portrait. As he stepped into the hallway, he stared at the painting one more time. That was him, alright… Emily really put a lot of work into making something like this. And she did this without being told.“If only Sarah were alive…” he smiled bitterly, looking up.Many things would have been different and he wouldn't have joined the Black Cross but time could not be reversed. Besides, he wouldn't have known about vampires if his wife were alive…Adrian entered his office and hung the portrait on the wall. He stood before it and admired it for a long time and then Kellan was the one who interrupted his trance.“Hey,” Kellan said, his expression tired. He sat down, slumped, and stared at the portrait. “I thought you guys were going on a date. Did you g
CHAPTER 35 —SPELLBOUND
Adrian stood fixated on the spot for a few moments as he didn't even hear Kellan calling him. The voices around him seemed distant, and his vision blurry.“Hey…” Kellan's voice eventually woke him from his trance as he blinked, looking around dazed.“What was that?” Kellan asked.“Haven't you seen a beautiful woman before?”“No, it's not that…” Adrian said as Kellan gave him a suspicious look.“Don't tell me you're already in love… But there's..”“It's not that either,” Adrian said.“Then what is it?” Kellan asked.Adrian's eyes drifted toward the students and teachers who were discussing amongst themselves. The teachers had joined them at some point of time. Everyone seemed excited, even the adults.“Did you see that woman?” A boy asked his peers.“She's very gorgeous!”“I agree with you,” one of his peers replied.“I've never seen a woman that beautiful. Even Miss Emily doesn't hold a candle.”Even the teachers weren't left out, especially the male ones. They kept talking about how
Chapter 36 —COINCIDENCE
That day Adrian felt restless. His muscles were pulled taut, as he thought of a way to handle the woman. She was obviously controlling everyone at this point. “Joanne Castle…” he muttered the name. He'd never heard of a name like that.. At least not in the vampire world. It seemed as if she came out of nowhere. This made him to suspect that she might be a vampire. Only vampires had the ability to charm people with their appearances. “What's her motive?” He asked himself. She would have definitely killed him last night. But she didn't. Instead, she escaped. That meant killing him wasn't her main agenda. Perhaps, she had come to test him. He was still mumbling to himself when Kellan entered. He jolted from his thoughts, looking up abruptly. “Hey.” His voice carried no emotion. “What's wrong?” Kellan asked. “You don't seem fine.” “Maybe I'm not,” he replied. Kellan crossed his legs. “Is it about that new teacher?” “Teacher?” Adrian's brows creased. “I can't believe you don't k
CHAPTER 36 — A STORY OF VAMPIRES AND HUNTERS
“Once upon a time, in a world not so different from ours, there lived creatures that only came out at night.”A woman sat on a chair beside a large bed, her voice soft enough to blend with the quiet rustling of the curtains as moonlight slipped through the window, casting patterns across the floor.Three children lay beneath the blankets, their eyes fixed on her.“Creatures?” the youngest asked, clutching a stuffed rabbit against her chest. “What kind of creatures?”“Vampires,” the woman whispered loud enough for the children to hear as the youngest immediately pulled her blanket up to her nose.“Don't tell me you're scared.” Her older brother said as he laughed.“I'm not scared!”“Then why are you hiding?”“Its….. it's because I'm cold!” The girl said as the boy between the siblings sighed and turned toward the woman.“Please continue. I want to know what vampires are like.” The boy said and the woman smiled faintly.“Very well. Vampires look much like ordinary people, but they poss
CHAPTER 37 — THE WOMAN WITH NO ANSWERS
Adrian Azuma walked down the school corridor with a textbook tucked beneath his arm.It was another ordinary morning at school as students hurried between classrooms.Adrian could hear some discussing their assignments while others gathered around their friends, laughing about things that would probably be forgotten before the day ended.Adrian barely paid attention to them. His mind had been occupied with Black Cross matters since the previous night, and he was beginning to miss the days when his biggest problem was dealing with lazy students who refused to do their homework. He approached his classroom, intending to begin his lecture, when a familiar voice caught his attention. It came from his classroom.Adrian slowed down, as he was sure it was his period. So why was someone teaching in his class?Through the open window beside the main door, he could see Joanne standing in front of a blackboard. She held a piece of chalk in one hand while several dates and historical events were
CHAPTER 38 — THE DIFFERENCE IN STRENGTH
Adrian's fist slammed into the punching bag, sending it swinging backward. Before it could return to its original position, he struck it again. His fists moved relentlessly, each punch carrying enough force to make the heavy punching bag sway on its chains.Sweat rolled down his face, soaking the collar of his training shirt, but he showed no intention of stopping. He threw a right hook, followed by a left jab, then drove his knee into the bag before finishing with a powerful kick. The bag swung so hard that its chains rattled against the metal support above it.Adrian barely noticed any of this. His mind was somewhere else.Joanne's mysterious, calm smile. Her evasive answers and the way she had repelled him with a mere gust of wind. She knew almost everything about him, yet he still knew absolutely nothing about her. He hated that fact so much.Ever since joining Black Cross, he had learned that the world was far more complicated than he had imagined.Vampires existed, and secret or
