CHAPTER 11
Tyler raised his head and looked through the car window at the massive gate of the Prescott Mansion. He shifted his attention from the mansion to Eva, who was sitting beside him inside the spacious car. She was looking through the opposite window, seemingly calm and confident. Tyler studied her face for a few seconds before finally speaking.“I am not sure your parents are going to agree with this,” Tyler said cautiously, his voice carrying a hint of concern.Eva turned her head toward him with a confused expression. She studied his face as though she was trying to understand what exactly he meant.“Agree with what?” Eva asked, raising her eyebrows slightly.Tyler hesitated for a moment before explaining himself.“I mean bringing me to your family home,” Tyler explained. “I know they may not be happy about seeing me here, especially if they get to hear everything that happened at the Voss Mansion.”Eva smiled faintly, apparently not seeing the situation as seriously as Tyler did.“
CHAPTER 12
Tyler also noticed the uncomfortable atmosphere and remained behind Eva without saying anything. Eva’s mother slowly lifted her eyes from the table and looked directly at Tyler. Her eyes moved over him from head to toe, as though she was trying to confirm something she had already heard. Her expression immediately became cold and furious before she shifted her gaze back toward Eva.Eva noticed the look on her mother’s face and understood that something was seriously wrong.“Mom, what happened?” Eva asked, her voice filled with confusion. “Why are you looking at Tyler like that?”Her mother did not answer immediately. Instead, she picked up the napkin beside her plate and slowly wiped the corner of her mouth. She appeared completely calm, but the anger in her eyes was impossible to hide.Tyler remained silent behind Eva, watching her mother carefully. After several seconds, Eva’s mother finally raised her head.“Eva, is it true?” she asked coldly.Eva frowned.“Is what true?” Eva a
CHAPTER 13
“Mom, you cannot just forget everything Tyler did for our family,” Eva said, trying to keep her voice calm. “There was a time when he was there for Isabella and for all of us. He helped when our family needed him.”Her mother immediately shook her head.“That is the past, Eva,” she replied coldly. “Whatever he did back then does not change what happened on the day he was supposed to marry Isabella.”Eva frowned.“But you don’t know the whole story,” she insisted. “You only know what Isabella told you.”Her mother stared at her daughter.“And what else am I supposed to know?” she asked. “Should I believe a man who disappeared for two years without giving anyone an explanation?”Eva opened her mouth to answer, but before she could say anything, her father, Mr. Prescott, slowly cleared his throat. The sound immediately silenced the room.Mr. Prescott had remained quiet throughout the argument, sitting at the dining table and listening to everything that had been said. Unlike his wife,
CHAPTER 14
Mr. Prescott’s expression hardened as he continued staring at Tyler. “Are you deaf?!” He said in a low voice, through clenched teeth. “What gives you the audacity to tell me what I can drink in my own house?” Mr. Prescott demanded angrily. “Have you forgotten where you are standing? This is the Prescott Mansion, not some place where you have authority.”Tyler remained calm. He did not respond immediately, and his silence only seemed to make Mr. Prescott angrier.Mr. Prescott turned toward Eva and gestured toward Tyler with his free hand.“Eva, can you see what you have brought into this house?” he asked bitterly. “You brought a madman into our home, and now he thinks he can command your father.”Eva looked at Tyler, then back at her father.“Dad, please calm down,” Eva said gently. “I don’t think Tyler meant to disrespect you.”Mr. Prescott scoffed.“Then what exactly did he mean?” he asked. “He just told me to stop drinking my own wine.”Tyler finally spoke.“I wasn’t commanding
CHAPTER 15
“Are you saying that the wine is poisoned?” Eva asked, her voice trembling slightly.Tyler nodded slowly.“Yes,” he replied calmly. “I believe the wine contains poison.”Eva gasped in shock. Her eyes immediately widened as she turned toward her father. Eva’s heart began beating faster as she looked at the wine.“Dad, please don’t drink it,” Eva pleaded, her voice suddenly filled with fear.Mr. Prescott stared at her for a few seconds before looking at Tyler again. His expression showed a mixture of anger and disbelief.“You actually believe this man?” he asked.Eva shook her head slightly.“Dad, I’m only asking you to wait,” she replied nervously. “Tyler believes there is poison in the wine.”Mr. Prescott let out a short, bitter laugh.“Eva, don’t allow this man to fool you,” he said firmly.Eva looked at him with concern.“But what if he’s right?” she asked.Mr. Prescott placed the wine glass back on the table but kept one hand around it.“He is not right,” he replied confidently. “
CHAPTER 16
Tyler took a slow breath before speaking.“I understand,” he said calmly. “I know how strange what I am saying must sound to everyone in this room.”Eva looked at him sadly.“I am not saying that I think you are lying,” Eva replied gently. “I just don’t know what to believe.”Tyler nodded.“I know,” he said. “And I don’t blame you.”He then turned his attention toward Mr. and Mrs. Prescott. His expression became serious as he looked at the wine glass sitting in front of Mr. Prescott.“Mr. Prescott, I am not going to physically stop you from drinking that wine,” Tyler explained. “It is your decision, and I have no right to force you to do anything in your own house.”Mr. Prescott narrowed his eyes.“Then why did you stop me earlier?” he asked suspiciously.Tyler remained calm.“Because I wanted to warn you,” he replied. “You can choose whether you want to listen to me or not, but I believe there are consequences you need to understand before you take another sip.”Mr. Prescott leaned
CHAPTER 17
Eva looked directly at her mother and spoke with a voice that was calm but firm.“I will not allow you to throw Tyler out of this house like a criminal,” Eva said, tightening her grip on the armrest of her wheelchair. “He has done nothing to deserve that.”Mrs. Prescott stared at her daughter in disbelief. She had expected Eva to eventually accept her father’s decision, but instead, Eva seemed even more determined to defend Tyler. She opened her mouth to respond, but Mr. Prescott raised one hand, silently stopping his wife.He had been watching Eva carefully, studying every word she said and every expression on her face. His disappointment was obvious as he leaned back in his chair and slowly shook his head.“Perhaps your mother and I have made a mistake,” Mr. Prescott said coldly, his voice filled with a strange calmness that made Eva nervous. “Perhaps we have given you too much financial freedom.”Eva frowned as she looked at him. She could sense that his words were leading towa
CHAPTER 18
Tyler realized that Eva was being forced to choose between the family that controlled her life and the man she had decided to stand beside. Eva stared at her father in disbelief after hearing that her account had been frozen, and for several seconds, she could not find the words to respond. “Dad, reverse the decision,” Eva demanded, her voice trembling with emotion. “Please unfreeze my account.”Mr. Prescott remained seated, holding his phone calmly as though the matter meant nothing to him. He looked at his daughter without any sign of regret before slowly shaking his head.“No,” he replied firmly. “I will not reverse it.”Eva’s eyes became red as she stared at him.“Why are you doing this to me?” she asked, her voice breaking slightly. “Because I chose someone you don’t like? Is that enough reason for you to take away my financial independence?”Mr. Prescott placed his phone on the table and leaned back in his chair. His expression remained stern as he looked at Eva.“This is no
CHAPTER 19
At that moment, the entire family began panicking. Mr. Prescott was still struggling desperately for air, his body convulsing as he held his throat.“What is happening to him?” Mrs. Prescott cried, her voice shaking as she tried to support her husband.Nobody answered her. Then her eyes widened in horror when they fell upon the glass of wine her husband had taken the wine from. She stared at it for several seconds, as if something had suddenly clicked inside her mind. Her eyes slowly moved from the glass toward the wine bottle sitting on the table. Then they moved again. This time, they landed on Tyler.Tyler was still standing calmly in the same place. Unlike everyone else, he did not appear surprised by what had happened. His expression was calm, almost as though he had already expected everything that was happening.Mrs. Prescott stared at him with disbelief.“What just happened?” she asked, her voice trembling as she looked from Tyler to her husband. “What happened to my husba
CHAPTER 20
Tyler immediately turned when he heard the door behind him open. He watched as a doctor hurried into the room, followed closely by two assistants carrying briefcases that appeared to contain medical equipment. The doctor looked serious as he surveyed the chaotic scene, while his assistants followed him toward the place where Mr. Prescott lay on the floor, struggling to breathe. The moment Mrs. Prescott saw the doctor, relief flashed across her face. She hurried toward him, almost stumbling in her haste, and grabbed his arm.“Dr. Peter! Thank goodness you’re here!” Mrs. Prescott exclaimed anxiously. “Please, you have to do something. My husband is in terrible condition, and he can barely breathe!”Dr. Peter barely had time to respond before Mrs. Prescott began pulling him toward her husband. He followed her quickly, carrying his medical bag while his two assistants hurried behind him. When they reached Mr. Prescott, the doctor immediately knelt beside him and examined his conditio
