The bullet tore through the crisp night air, the muzzle flash painting the shattered window frame in a stark, fleeting white. It didn’t sink into Lucas’s skull—Elias had intentionally tilted his wrist a fraction of an inch at the last millisecond—but it struck the heavy iron wrench in Lucas’s hand with a deafening ping.Sparks exploded right in front of Lucas’s face. The sheer kinetic force of the impact yanked the wrench from his grip, spinning him backward. He hit the asphalt of the alleyway, screaming in terror, clutching his hand as if his fingers had been blown off."My hand! Oh my god, my hand! He shot my hand!" Lucas shrieked, rolling around in the dirt like a toddler who had stubbed his toe at a playground.Elias didn't wait to watch the theatrical display. He stepped back from the window, grabbed the heavy iron lever beside the frame, and slammed it down. With a loud, mechanical screech, a secondary reinforced steel shutter slid down over the broken glass, sealing the window

Elias lay flat on his back, the cool concrete floor of the warehouse a stark contrast to the burning heat of Elena’s body sprawled directly over him. His arms were still wrapped securely around her waist, his fingers digging into the soft curve of her hip where he’d held her during their desperate roll through the closing steel gate. For a long, quiet moment, neither of them moved. The air between them was thick, charged with the dizzying, primal cocktail of near-death adrenaline and sudden, overwhelming physical intimacy. Her dark, messy waves of hair fell over her face, framing a pair of wide, expressive eyes that stared down at him with a volatile mix of shock, confusion, and something dangerously close to fascination."So," Elena breathed, her voice a soft, hot puff of air against his neck. "About that espresso."Elias let out a

The frantic, wet shrieks of Lucas and Regina outside had been completely swallowed by the soundproof steel plating of the bunker, replaced instead by the rhythmic, heavy breaths of two people who had decided to completely ignore the end of the world. The air in the bedroom suite of the newly upgraded Class-2 Safehouse was thick with the scent of spent passion, warm skin, and the rich aroma of espresso that had long gone cold on the metal nightstand.Elias lay flat on his back, the plush memory-foam mattress molding perfectly to his aching muscles. His chest was bare, glistening with a light sheen of sweat in the dim, golden glow of the recessed LED lights. Elena was draped across his torso, one of her smooth, toned legs hooked over his thigh, her fingers tracing lazy, post-coital circles over the hard contours of his collarbone. Her dark, messy waves of hair fell over his shoulder, her skin radiating a delicious, intoxicating heat against his."You know," Elena murmured, her voice a l
