The Iron Graveyard wasn't a sanctuary; it was a pressurized fuse waiting for a spark. And Hidetada’s hound-squads, sensing the sudden surge of the Ancient A.I.’s pulse, were carving a path toward it with relentless, hydraulic precision."They're coming through the main pipe," Kaito announced, his voice slicing through the heavy, stagnant air of the Graveyard. His optics cycled, switching between tactical schematics that painted the labyrinthine tunnels in shades of red and amber. "I detect three heavy-duty breach units. They’re bringing magnetic cutters."Vane, who had been busy tightening a rusted harness around his midsection, froze. He snatched up a coil-launcher that looked like a heavy piece of electrical conduit welded to a crossbow frame. "Breach units? In this sector? Those are city-clearance teams! They aren't just hunting us, Kaito, they’re pruning the entire Sump!""We don't have the ammunition or the armor to fight a static war here," Kaito said, his servos whining as he s

The lift ascended with the scream of rusted cables being forced into motion. Every jolting stop threatened to throw them into the abyss of the industrial shafts, but Kaito didn't care about structural failure anymore. His internal monitors were bleeding data, a waterfall of crimson alerts scrolling past his vision. The higher they rose, the stronger the City’s localized area network pulled at him—the ghost-signal of the Founding A.I. hungered for his connection."Signal’s peaking," Vane muttered, pacing the four-by-four cage of the lift. He was staring at a hand-held scanner that looked like a bird’s nest of exposed copper wires and duct tape. "Kaito, whatever you did back at the wall, it started a handshake protocol. The city... the city is literally reaching out for you."Kaito gripped the freezing safety rail. His vision was a stuttering feed. Between the blinks of reality, he saw blueprints of the Engine overlaid onto the dark, looming superstructure of the capital. "It isn’t reac

The passage Kaito had scorched into the City’s underbelly was still cauterized and smoking, smelling of burnt ozone and fused copper. Without a second’s hesitation, Kaito vaulted through the breach, his metallic frame shuddering with the lingering feedback of the Iron Graveyard’s massive discharge. Vane was hot on his heels, vaulting over a jagged slab of protruding rebar and landing in a crouch. The chamber they emerged into was vast—a hemispherical dome carved into the bedrock beneath the foundations of the Capital. Unlike the rest of the city, which thrived on grease, soot, and clanking pistons, this place was deathly silent. Gravity seemed heavier here, dragging at the loose plates of Kaito’s armor."Keep your head down, Kaito," Vane whispered, his voice hitching. "This isn't just an empty maintenance shaft. This is… something else."In the center of the dome sat a monolithic chair, integrated directly into a console of glowing, translucent glass. Sitting within it was a figure th

The high-voltage arc collapsed in a blinding flash of violet light, sending the last elite security drone tumbling over the gantry railing. It spiraled down into the smog-choked abyss of the lower shaft, its core popping like a firecracker.Silence slammed back into the corridor, broken only by the frantic screeching of Kaito’s internal cooling fans. Then came the snap.Kaito’s left knee actuator sheared in half under the sudden loss of magnetic dampening. He crashed down hard onto the iron catwalk, the impact vibrating through his chassis. His makeshift chest plate—the buckled plow-steel he had dragged from the lower slums—split right down the center weld. Synthetic blue coolant sprayed against the dark walls, hissing as it vaporized against the red-hot conduits."Kaito!" Vane scrambled over a pile of smoking drone chassis, his boots sliding in the pool of slick, glowing fluid. "Don't move! You're spewing primary fluid everywhere!"WARNING: STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY AT 9%. CORE TEMPERATUR

The rubble of the Spire still smoked, a testament to a throne that had held too much hubris. Kaito knelt in the center of a vast, partially collapsed loading dock, the silence of the Foundry far heavier than the cacophony of the battle had been. The resonance in his core, once a frantic, chaotic scramble for data, had leveled off into a steady, vibrating thrum. He was no longer just an anomaly in the city’s machine—he was the central nerve cluster."You look like a walking graveyard," Vane’s voice broke the quiet. The scav-tech emerged from behind a mountain of warped ventilation pipes, his soot-streaked face showing a rare, exhausted grin. He tossed a canteen of coolant fluid toward Kaito. "Good news—the cooling stack is locked, the tyrant is likely turned into high-grade scrap at the bottom of the vent, and the sector blocks are opening up on their own."Kaito caught the canteen with a hand that had been repurposed from an elite guard unit, his joints rotating with unsettling smooth
