Chapter 31
"I think he wants to go home," he said slowly.Cordelia raised her eyebrows. "Home?""To his father's hospital. To CMG." He turned his head. "He has been playing a very long game at Titan. But he has also watched his father's company start to bleed. If the stock is falling, if his uncle is shouting on television, he must be getting nervous. He wants to step in before it's too late.""And he needs money to do it.""And he needs money. Or he wants me to think so.""What do you mean?""I mean a man who sends a message like that is not asking," Caspian said. "He is testing. He wants to see how I react. If I pay, he knows I am afraid. If I refuse, he knows I am angry. Either way, he learns something.""So what will you do?"He thought for a moment. Then, slowly, a smile appeared. Not the warm smile of a few minutes ago. A different one. Thin, quiet and very calm."I'll invite him in.""Invite him?""To the hospital. To my office." He lifted the phone and began to type with his left thumb. "
Chapter 32
By noon, Titan Hospital had doubled its guard.Jason had seen to it personally. Four men in black stood at the main entrance, two more at every lift and four along the executive corridor. None of them wore the hospital's grey uniform. None had ever been on its payroll.Orion arrived at five minutes to twelve. He came through the glass doors in a charcoal suit, with a slim leather folder under his arm and the faint, easy smile of a man walking into his own house. Two men stepped into his path."Dr. Clever. Please stand still.""I beg your pardon?""Security, sir. A routine check."Orion's smile didn't move. "Routine.""Yes, sir."He lifted his arms with a theatrical sigh. They patted down his jacket, his sleeves, his trouser legs and the folder under his arm. One of them passed a thin black wand along his chest. Another went through his wallet, his phone, his keys. They found nothing."Satisfied?" Orion asked."Thank you, sir. You may go up.""Do you search all your resigning staff?" he

Orion let out a short laugh. He uncrossed his legs and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees."Be honest with me, Titan. You can afford it. Everyone knows that. The question is whether you will." He tilted his head. "Or is Titan too broke to give me that?"The room went quiet.Caspian looked at him. Then, without warning, he laughed. It wasn't a polite laugh. It came out of him in a deep, loose wave that made him press his cast against his ribs. He wiped his eyes with the heel of his hand, still chuckling."Forgive me," he said. "It's just... look at who is calling someone broke."Orion's smile froze. For a moment he sat perfectly still, as if a thread had been cut. The colour drained slowly from his face. His eyes narrowed and his lips parted slightly."What did you say?""I said look who's talking.""Why did you say that?" The words came out quick and sharp. "Why did you say broke? What do you mean?""It's only a figure of speech.""It's not." Orion's voice rose. "You said
Chapter 34
Orion came out of the washroom five minutes later, drying his hands on a handkerchief. He walked back toward the lift with his usual unhurried stride. The faint smile was back in place, though his eyes were a shade too bright. At the end of the corridor, two men in black stepped out from behind a pillar."Dr. Clever?"Orion stopped. "Yes?""Sir, we are sorry to trouble you." The taller of them spoke politely, as if he had never seen Orion before in his life. "Security. Random checks on all visitors to this floor. May we look through your pockets?""I was already searching downstairs.""Different shifts, sir."Orion sighed and lifted his arms. The shorter guard ran his hands down the sides of his trousers. When he reached the right pocket, his fingers stopped."Sir. What is this?""What is what?"The guard drew out a small black object and held it up between two fingers. A flash drive, no longer than a thumb, with a silver clasp."It's mine," Orion said, a little too quickly."May I ask
Chapter 35
The woman slipped around behind them. Her small hand dipped swiftly into Orion's trouser pocket, drew out a small black object and closed around it. She tucked it into the sleeve of her white coat, quick as a pickpocket, and stepped back against the wall, panting, her face tragic with alarm.Nobody saw."Security!" someone shouted. "Get security!"Four guards in black came running from the end of the corridor. They seized the man by the arms and pulled him away from Orion, dragging him off in a storm of curses. Two more steadied Orion and straightened his torn lapel. A nurse brought a glass of water. Somebody picked up the folders."Are you all right, sir?""Perfectly." Orion tore himself free and smoothed his hair with both hands. "Just see that he's dealt with."He adjusted his cuffs and walked quickly to Caspian's door.He did not check his pocket. Not then.Caspian was seated at the desk when he came in.He had his hands folded on the leather and an expression of mild concern, as

“Are you the one to tell me what to do now?” Orion growled, stamping fiercely on his desk but Caspian looked at him and smiled. “Do you know the word ‘accountability?’” “Did I tell you I didn't go to school and tell me where in the law mandates me to marry a woman I had a baby with.” Caspian ran a skeptical look at him from up to down, shaking his head with a smirk. Does this guy really know what he's signing up for? Does he know the kind of risk he's taking arguing this with me? Considering the situation at his father's hospital, he can barely stand against him in court. Caspian knew the charges to level on him and he'd drain all of his energy and money on lawyers and still not get to defeat him. That's why he wasn't bothered, but taking it slowly. Orion, seeing that he wasn't getting any response for his violent attempt to silence Caspian, sat back and Caspian repeated the same thing he said earlier. “I'm a business man and I deal with transactions. I don't do anything for

Caspian left, not for any meeting. He had his motive in mind which was going to take Orion by surprise. In the hallway of the second floor, Jason came to him. Everything had been planned. “Boss, are we going there now?” He asked Caspian and he nodded. “Right away!” Forming a knot on his face. “Contact the media people to get prepared.” “Yes sir.”’Jason said and was already on his phone. Just then Caspian remembered. “We need a lawyer for this in case things turn south.” Jason paused, nodding hastily. “You're telling the truth, boss. Let me contact Nancy but won't it be unfair if we bring our lawyer and he doesn't?” Caspian dropped a brow sending a lethal look at Jason that got him shaking his face in horror. He didn't want to do anything that would make it seem as though he's siding with Orion. He clearly recalled what happened to Atlas, his predecessor. “I don't mean it that way,” he said. Caspian merely sighed and said nothing else. They descended down the stairs. “If every

But a quiet voice said at the back of his head. “Who told you that you will come back?” Already he was asking for compensation, indirectly declaring he was working here again. However in an atmosphere like this, he needed to pull a little bit of fear. Some succumbed, others stood stall, bracing their chest as they grabbed his hand. “There's no way a prestigious hospital like this would take such a scandalous doctor as you back.” One of the guards hissed. Another on his right chuckled. “Leave him, let him dream on. You better go take back the woman you used and flung away.” While the rest laughed. Orion stood rigid, still folding his palms. His lips moved but no words would come out of his mouth. He thought of what to say to hurt these people. Nothing at all. His rage flew to his rival, his greatest enemy. Caspian. He'd told about him to everyone, even to guards like these who are way below his level. That anger kept churning and burning inside of him that even when he was dr

“Okay, sure boss.” Jason answered as Caspian cut the call. He rushed up to Graycie. “We gotta go now. Please dress up fast. Caspian just called. Everyone is ready.” Graycie leapt in the air. “Right away. Just ten minutes.” Jason's arms folded across his chest with a smug grin as he watched her rush to her room. He swung his head. “That's how to lure them!” He muttered. He quickly texted Caspian. “She has gone to dress up.” Caspian's lips curved in a determined smile. “Good!” Jason waited. Ten minutes later, the door opened and Graycie walked out in a gray pair of trousers and a lemon shirt. In a modest heel and hair styled to the back. She held nothing, just her phone in hand. “Come with me.” Jason said to her, low and excited. He took the lead. As they were descending down the stairs, her eyes shot afar, seeing someone sit there. Caspian, folding his arms and looking outside. Her legs staggered. “Wait!” “What?” Jason asked, acting surprised. Her eyes shot past him to the c

The drive was silent and gloomy like they were going to fight some tough, secret war. Caspian kept on looking outside, cupping his chin in thought. Jason thought to ask but seeing Graycie looking, he didn't want to attract his wrath. However when they were close to the Hospital, he pulled out his phone to check out on Nancy and the media. “They are all ready….waiting for us.” “Uhmm…” Caspian said and turned to look out again. Graycie frowned. “What's going wrong with me?” Her body was shaking, praying he didn't change his mind on this. The last thing she wanted was Orion believing he could do what he wanted to do and no one could question him. At the entrance of the Titan Hospital, the media came with their cameras and mics. Caspian raised his hand in the air, the other hand in his pocket as he walked seriously in. Jason dripped with amusement. “Is this show for Graycie?” He thought. Definitely, it was. “Boss,” he called out next, rushing over to his side, leaving Graycie alo
