Bang! Bang!

A heavy knock hammered on the door the next morning. Dora stood there wearing an expensive short and fitted gown, her expression twisted with disdain as though she shouldn't even be there.

"Get up your lazy ass up from the bed. Mum wants you in the living room!"

The door cracked open. Zane was standing there, wearing a plain cloth. His eyes weren't tired at all or showed any sign of grogginess from sleep.

Dora poured her lips, casting him a disdainful look.

"You're finally back to your sense. You insulted mum yesterday and had the guts to open your filthy hole you call a mouth to insult me. You're dead. Get yourself to the living room with her. Everyone is waiting!"

She threw a clothes she squeezed in her hand to his chest.

"And Tara don't come out dressing like you were dragged out from a rat hole."

She finished and strutted away.

All this time, Zane was only looking at her in quiet anger. She was the reason Tara lost her voice and she was going to pay the price for her wickedness.

After a while, Zane and Tara walked out into the living room. Tara was wearing a rumpled gown that was given to her by Margaret so she would look at least presentable. That was the only favour they did for her. A second hand cloth to make her look presentable to sell her out.

Mr. Sterling sat beside Margaret, the both of them were dressed up exaggeratedly in matching outfits that probably cost more than what most people earn in a month.

Their laughter filled the room as they engaged in a light discussion, selecting polite words to speak to the young man across from them.

"You shouldn't be formal with us, Jackson," Margaret drawled, her voice citrusy. "You're going to be our son-in-law."

Jackson Blackthorn. The heir to a millionaire family. He always carried himself with the pride and entitled arrogance of someone who owns whatever room he entered.

His suit was immaculate. White, limited edition, the kind that could announced it's price without price tag. A diamond wristwatch caught the light on his wrist and flaunt it across the room. He adjusted his cuff links, sitting straighter when he saw Tara descending the stairs. He leered at her.

His expression changed slightly when he saw Zane materialized holding her hand.

"Here she comes." Margaret stood up immediately. "Please sit down Tara.

Tara glanced at Zane. Zane nodded his head curtly, quietly Urging her to sit. She sat adjacent to her family and across from Jackson who won't stop staring at her, stripping her naked with his eyes.

Tara's beauty stood out against the second hand cloth that was given to her.

Zane sat beside her. His expression was firm and unreadable.

Mr. Sterlings cleared his throat and shifted forward on the chair.

"Now that you're here, we can start the arrangements so we won't keep Mr. Jackson Blackthorn waiting." He said, smiling widely. Margaret nodded to everything she was saying, her smile all over the place. He pulled out a white paper and pushed it across to Zane. "Here is the divorce agreement with the benefits. 30% incentive. $2 million. Sign the divorce paper now." He slapped the pen down.

Tara glanced at Zane in anxiety, her finger twisting the fabrics of her gown. Her heart raced.

Zane picked up the divorce paper and looked at it.

Margaret grinned widely, thinking the plan was already falling into place. "Not so hard, you see." She whispered to her husband.

"When money is involved, that bastard will sell his balls even." He whispered back, with a sharp smirk on his lips.

Zane scoffed, shaking the divorce paper. His voice was calm and unhurried.

"So, you want me to sell out my wife. For $2 million?"

Jackson cleared his voice and leaned forward, making sure his cufflinks caught the light.

"You see, Zane.." He Started, his voice dripping of inborn arrogance. "..i understand the money is small. To me. It is. Because I'm in a good mood today, I'll make it $5 million. And I'll double the price for the family too. I have gifts waiting outside already for the both of you, Margaret and Sterlings."

Margaret and her husband gasped, exchanging surprising glances.

"Oh, my Goodness, Mr. Blackthorn. That..that is so kind of you. You're welcome to this family already. You don't have to worry about anything."

Her voice was all flattery and sweet.

"Now, that is who we call a man." Mr. Sterlings added with a smile too wide to be natural. "You're absolutely know when something is worth the cost."

Jackson pulled out a checkbook and wrote on it. $5 million. He tore it clean and placed it before Zane.

Zane scoffed, looking at the check in amusement. Like it was an insult.

"$5 million? That's like a piece of trash you just offered and.." Zane leaned forward with a sharp smirk, his expression serious. "Even if you offer multiple of this, you're leaving this place with nothing."

The room went silent for about five seconds.

The smile on Margaret and Mr. Sterlings face dropped into something cold.

"Zane.."

Jack simply raised a hand, cutting through woman off with hugs gesture.

He leaned forward with a sharper smirk.

"I know what you're doing, Zane. Strategy, Huh. That's a good approach right there. You're not a business person but you're smart. I give you that."

"I'll make it "10 million."

The couples gasped. Likewise Tara.

Jackson wrote another cheque and placed it before him.

Zane Kept quiet, staring down at the $10 million cheque with an unreadable expression. Jackson grin widened, misunderstanding his quietness for consideration.

Zane looked at him. The bastard was desperate to buy Tara at any cost. And it was all amusing to behold.

Then Zane leaned forward and picked up the cheque.

"This..." He said, holding the cheque at the tip of his finger. "...is an insult to my woman." He ripped the cheque into halves.

She called, her voice quiet, the voice of a mother who was about to give late night advice to her beloved daughter. Her voice carried understanding. "I understand your anger. You feel neglected. Your brother had made mistakes in the past, but that's what makes him a human. That is what human beings do. We all make mistakes, pick irrational decisions and regret it later. But that doesn't stop him from being your blood."The words hit something inside of Agatha but she didn't soften yet.Mrs. The Coker held her hand, squeezing it gently. Everyone settled behind the wooden dining table. Zane and Tara juxtaposed, Agatha sat across from them with Rose beside her while Mrs. cooker sat at the head of the table. The air smell with the Aroma of Chicken and mushroom pasta prepared by Agatha and the sound of cutleries clicking against ceramic plates filled the room."I hope you'll enjoy the meal." Mrs. Cooker said, glancing over at Zane and Tara. "This is the best meal we currently have at home. The village is facing a lot these days. Insecurity and taxmen collecting our little penny is hindering us to get provisions from the main city. Most of the time, we pay them with our agricultural products when we don't have any money."Zane paused his meal, setting the fork against the plate with a faint sharp click. "Taxmen disturb you people here too, despite how local this place is?" He raised a brow. "You people are struggling here, they shouldn't make life harder for you more." He picked the fork and continued to eat. "But th

LAND WAIVER AGREEMENT.He raised her head and looked back at Andrew, her ex-husband and Rose's father. Her brow tightened slightly in confusion."Land waiver agreement... Andrew I don't understand?""Cut the crap, Agatha!" Andrew cut her off rudely, spit flying from his alcohol polluted mouth. "The land at Raven ground. Sign it if you want me to help you with Rose's case. Without your signature, I'm not involved." Agatha's Brow knitted in surprise, her voice almost a whisper. "Andrew, Rose is our daughter. We both gave birth to her. How can you say something like this?" She berated quietly, her voice breaking slightly with emotions. "That land is the only inheritance left by my mum. Her grave is on that land. How can you make a materialistic attachment to saving your daughter? Our daughter?" Andrew scoffed, unmoved by the breaking woman. "From the moment you kicked me out of the marri
