The Armory

Everyone was silent, it seemed they had understood what they were going to do and what their respective roles were in this mission. It seems that only Luke is confused about his role in this mission. He is just a new recruit who yesterday was still in the academy and now he has become one of the soldiers of the human corps and he will be deployed on a very important and dangerous mission. But, in order to find Rena he is willing to do anything because he believes Rena is not dead yet. Indeed, if he spoke to other people about his belief people would surely tell him to give it up but, Luke didn't tell anyone about his main goal he just always said to kill the vampires and want to go outside the wall.

"Ainswald, after this come with me."

"All right, Captain."

"Alright, let's end this briefing session. You are free to do whatever you want." The captain turned off the digital screen.

"Hey, Captain, you can do it tonight, right?" Kento gave a hand signal as if holding a cup.

"Of course."

"Good, hey Charles you're coming too, right?"

"So where are we going this time, uncle?"

"I found a good place in district 12, don't call me uncle!!"

"Oooh… Where are you going Charles?"

"N-no sis, I just went with that uncle and captain."

"Uncle, where did you take Charles?"

"Ahh… Of course it's not a strange place, how come Charlotte is just an ordinary place. Yes, the usual place."

"Oooh, the usual place. But I doubt that the usual place you call uncle. How about I come too? May I?" The intimidating gaze and smile that seemed to want to kill people made Kento flinch and fear the girl in front of him.

"Y-yes of course, you can come with us Charlotte."

"Good, hey Luke do you want to come too?"

"Can I come with you?"

"Of course you can, you are officially a member of this team. Don't ask if you can come or not. So, how are you? Are you coming?"

"Okay, I'll come along."

"Well, that's the answer I was hoping for."

"Come on Ainswald come with me."

"All right, captain."

After Luke said goodbye to the other members he started walking out of the 10th squad room following Captain Verin. Why did the Captain only invite him? Why didn't Kento and the others say anything? Could it be that they deliberately didn't tell him? Luke and Captain Verin walked through a passage that seemed dark because of the dim lighting and soon they came to a large vault. Captain Verin put his thumb into the scanner which was not too far from the doorknob and after a few seconds of fingerprint identification now Captain Verin did a retina scan and he brought a part of his face towards the scanner. After the scan was complete and his identity confirmed from inside the vault door there was a cracking sound. Wait for the cracking sound? Perhaps more precisely the sound of a lock opening. What happens if someone touches this doorknob without doing a fingerprint and retina scan?

"An automatic rifle will pop out and a laser that's supposed to be enough to cut your body apart will activate. So don't even think about what will happen if you don't do a scan first." Once again this man reads other people's minds. However, how he did it no one in squad 10 knew about it.

"Captain, how can you read other people's minds?" The very curious Luke asked the question. It was possible that everyone in squad 10 had also asked Captain Verin about that.

"Of course, I only read facial expressions and eye gaze." His speech was just flat, Luke didn't know if this man was telling the truth or not because there was nothing to read from the look on his face and from the way he spoke.

Slowly the iron door opened and it was seen that there were many various weapons in it, there were new world and old world weapons. The old world is the world before the disaster and the new world is the post-disaster world, it seems that this weapon is very different in comparison. Luke and Captain Verin entered the weapons storage room. There seems to be a very striking difference between the two types of weapons in this room. The weapons of the old world were made to kill humans and the weapons of the new world were created to kill vampires and other creatures including humans themselves. Indeed, if you look back at human history, this world has felt a lot of blood spilled from humans and now the world is feeling the blood spilled by humans and vampires again. Technological developments seem fast when the world begins to change and the development of weapons is also more developed and more complex.

"You are free to choose a weapon that suits your fighting style." said Captain Verin.

Luke walked deeper into the armory full of those various weapons. Luke saw a cupboard, wait is it really a cupboard? He couldn't tell if it was a cupboard or a display case because it was covered in black cloth. Luke tried to reach for the black cloth to lower the cloth so he could see what was behind the cloth. But, when he tried to reach the cloth his hand suddenly stopped. The hand that was pale skin was holding Luke's left wrist.

"Don't touch it." Luke looked to his left and it was Captain Verin who was holding his wrist.

"S-sorry Captain." The grip of this man's hand is really very strong. Luke is currently enduring the pain because his strength is strong enough, maybe Verin can withstand his strength and if he doesn't hold back his strength, when Luke touches this black cloth, he might break his wrist. Shortly after that verin released his grip and Luke just kept quiet while holding his wrist which had bruises on it.

What was this man hiding? Why he forbade Luke to take this cloth off? After all, he had said earlier that Luke was free to pick up any weapon that suited his fighting style. It's best not to think about it too much because everyone has their own secrets and conditions. Luke walked away from the cloth-covered cupboard and he looked back. Seen Captain Verin was looking at the black cloth. What was that man thinking? Why did he just silently help in front of the black cloth-covered cupboard? Although there was curiosity inside Luke right now he had to bury his curiosity deep because he couldn't approach or touch the cloth.

The deeper he walked the less variety of weapons there were around him. A purplish black aura could be seen behind the wall. The aura exuded an eerie feeling. The closer he stepped towards the place where the aura was, the heavier he stepped on his feet. His breathing started to feel heavy as if the purplish black aura scared him. Did the Captain also sense this aura? Luke looked back and Captain Verin was still standing where he was but this time, he was watching Luke. Luke just felt that Captain Verin didn't feel what he was feeling right now. There was no point in him stopping here and turning around and away from this place while looking for another weapon. However, if he stopped here he wouldn't be able to get strong enough strength to go out and look for his little brother.

Luke was determined to keep walking towards where the black aura was. With heavy legs he continued to walk slowly towards where the black aura was. Seen a sword was displayed on a wooden shelf. The hilt of the sword is purple in color with a black pattern. The scabbard was purple but darker and gleaming so Luke could see the reflection of her face. Before he knew it he was already holding the hilt of the sword.
