The moment Ethan confirmed the system prompt, a brilliant flash of warm, golden light erupted from his hand where it rested against Sarah’s ice-cold forehead. The divine light swirled around the darkened bedroom, instantly driving out the biting chill and filling the small space with an comforting, autumn-like warmth.

Ethan felt a sudden surge of heat rush down his arms, settling into his palms like a liquid flame. At the same time, his vision shifted subtly, when he looked at Sarah, glowing green outlines hovered over her chest and throat, displaying her vital signs and body temperature in real time.
Moving quickly, Ethan accessed his spatial storage and retrieved two steaming pork buns and a bottle of pure mountain spring water. He carefully lifted Sarah’s head, resting her against his chest as he brought the warm bottle to her cracked lips.
"Drink slowly."
Ethan instructed softly.
Sarah took a cautious sip. The water was crisp, clean, and perfectly room-temperature,a luxury she hadn't tasted since the municipal pipes froze three days ago. As the liquid hit her throat, Ethan broke off a piece of the hot, meat-filled bun and held it out to her. The delicious aroma of freshly cooked pork and steamed dough filled the frigid room.
Sarah’s dark eyes widened in utter shock. Her hands, still trembling slightly, reached out to take the bun. She took a ravenous bite, tears instantly welling up in her eyes as the warm, savory food revived her fading senses.
"How... how do you have hot food?"
Sarah asked, her voice raspy but far stronger than before. She stared at Ethan in disbelief, taking in his thin cotton shirt and his complete lack of winter gear.
"The entire city is below minus fifty. You aren't even shivering... and your hands are so warm."
"I awakened an ability when the freeze hit."
Ethan explained calmly, keeping his explanation simple and grounded.
"It allows me to control heat and store supplies. I came down here to find people worth saving, people who can help rebuild something better. But to stay safe, Sarah, I need to know you're fully on board with my team."
Sarah swallowed the last piece of food, feeling a wave of vitality wash through her exhausted body. She looked into Ethan's steady, dark eyes and saw no deceit or cruelty, only strength and protection.
"I was dying in the dark five minutes ago, Ethan."
Sarah said, her voice filled with quiet conviction.
"You saved my life and gave me warm food without asking for anything cruel in return. If you'll have me, I'm with you."
[DING! COMPANION LOYALTY INCREASED: 75% (Devoted)!]
Before Ethan could reply, a loud, violent CRASH echoed from the front living room, followed by the heavy thud of combat boots stomping through the broken front door.
"Search the place!"
A harsh, gruff voice yelled from the hallway.
"Look for canned goods, blankets, and fuel! If anyone's alive, strip them clean!"
Sarah gasped, her face draining of color as she instinctively shrank back against the bed.
"It's Drake's gang."
She whispered in terror.
"They've been raiding the middle floors, taking everything from the survivors..."
"Stay behind me."
Ethan said smoothly, pushing himself to his feet. His expression turned ice-cold as he stepped out of the bedroom into the hallway.
Three rough-looking men stood in the center of the dark living room. They were wrapped in heavy, stolen winter parkas, carrying makeshift iron pipes and a heavy, rusted fire axe. The leader, a tall, scar-faced man named Drake, turned around and froze when he saw Ethan standing calmly in the doorway wearing nothing but a t-shirt.
"What the hell?"
Drake growled, squinting through the dim light.
"Who are you, kid? Where’s your coat? Are you crazy?"
"You're in the wrong apartment."
Ethan said flatly, taking a slow step forward.
"Turn around and walk back out, or you won't walk out at all."
Drake let out a booming laugh, his cronies chuckling along with him.
"Listen to this tough guy! He's freezing his brain off! Grab him, strip those clothes, and see what else he's hiding in the back!"
The two thugs charged forward, raising their iron pipes high.
Thanks to Sarah's passive Medical Accuracy buff, Ethan's perception slowed the world down. Glowing red target reticles appeared over the thugs' shoulders and knees, highlighting their stiff, frostbitten joints.
Ethan didn't bother pulling a weapon. He raised his right hand, curled his fingers into a fist, and snapped his thumb.
FLAME!
A brilliant, roaring jet of crimson fire erupted from Ethan's palm, illuminating the entire living room in a scorching 800°C inferno. The intense heat instantly vaporized the frost on the walls and melted the iron pipes right out of the thugs' hands.
"ARGH! FIRE! HE'S AN AWAKENED!"
One of the thugs screamed, dropping to the floor as the thermal wave scorched his heavy coat.Ethan stepped through the blaze like a phantom of heat. He delivered a swift, precise kick to the second thug's knee, shattering the frozen joint instantly. The man collapsed with a sickening crunch, howling in agony.
Drake’s eyes went wide as saucers. His fire axe slipped from his trembling hands, clattering onto the floorboards. The brutal confidence he had carried five seconds ago vanished into pure, unadulterated terror.
"You... you're a Fire Manipulator!"
Drake stammered, backing away toward the shattered front door.
"Please! Don't kill me! I didn't know this floor was yours!"
Ethan lowered his hand, the flames dancing gracefully over his knuckles before extinguishing into a faint plume of smoke. He looked at Drake with a chilling, unyielding gaze.
"Tell Marcus on the thirty-fifth floor that Ethan Vance is coming back for his coat."
Ethan said coldly.
"Now get out."
Drake didn't wait for a second warning. He turned and scrambled out into the hallway like a frightened dog, leaving his two groaning lackeys behind on the floor.
Ethan turned back toward the bedroom door. Sarah stood in the doorway, staring at the warm, glowing embers in his palm with a mix of awe and complete safety.

Chapter 10: The Steel Vanguard
The low, guttural roar of heavy diesel engines rattled the frosted glass frames of the depot courtyard as two massive, iron-plated tread-crawlers smashed through the outer perimeter security gates. Snow and ice sprayed into the air as the vehicles ground to a halt, blocking the main entrance and sealing the courtyard into a closed kill-zone.Over thirty heavily armed mercenaries clad in dark, insulated fur coats and reinforced steel body armor spilled out from the armored transports, spreading out across the snow-covered pavement with automatic shotguns and heavy assault rifles.Standing on the hood of the lead tread-crawler was Commander Vance, a brutal, scarred lieutenant of Warlord Boris who shared no blood relation to Ethan, despite his name. He carried a heavy anti-tank rocket launcher slung over his shoulder, his gray eyes scanning the quiet, snow-dusted courtyard with sadistic pleasure.Behind the lead crawler, crouching near the smashed iron gates, were Marcus Vance, Laura Ste
Chapter 9: The Armory and the Intercepted Trap
The heavy hydraulic blast doors groaned as they slid fully into the concrete walls, revealing the expansive subterranean fortress beneath the Northport Military Supply Depot. Unlike the frozen wasteland above, the underground air here was still and preserved, held in a state of suspended animation by reinforced blast shielding and emergency battery banks.Row upon row of heavy steel weapons racks stretched into the dim shadows of the main storage bay. Standard-issue automatic assault rifles, high-caliber sniper systems, crates of armor-piercing ammunition, anti-material rocket launchers, and tactical armor vests lined the walls in immaculate condition. Parked along the far wall were three massive, heavy-duty armored snow crawlers equipped with reinforced plow blades and dual-mounted thermal turrets.Corporal Miller and the remaining soldiers gasped, their eyes wide as they stepped down the metal staircase."The entire central tactical reserve is intact." Victoria murmured, walking u
Chapter 8: The Subterranean Terror
The concrete courtyard buckled and split like brittle glass as the forty-foot Acid-Frost Serpent reared its massive head into the storm. Its translucent ice scales glistened with a sickly, bioluminescent green, and clouds of acidic, sub-zero vapor hissed as they hit the freezing air. Where the creature’s corrosive saliva dripped onto the ground, armored steel plating dissolved into bubbling slush.Corporal Miller scrambled backward in absolute panic, clawing at the mud as he screamed. "It’s a subterranean threat! The rifles won't do anything! Run!"Victoria’s instincts kicked in instantly. Even with her energy restored by the System bond, the sheer size of the beast made her breath catch. "Ethan, stand back! The green mist is hyper-corrosive,it dissolves physical armor and freezes flesh on contact!""I see it." Ethan replied smoothly, his eyes narrowing as his System vision flared. Thanks to Sarah’s passive Medical Accuracy buff, glowing crimson outlines lit up the serpent’s anatomy
