"The zombies are inside!"

The terrified scream echoed throughout the supermarket.

Panic exploded instantly.

People shoved one another in desperate attempts to escape.

Several survivors fell to the floor.

Others trampled over them without hesitation.

The infected surged through the shattered entrance.

Their white eyes burned with hunger.

Blood stained their mouths.

Their twisted growls sent chills down everyone's spine.

"Run!"

"Get away from them!"

A middle-aged man was the first victim.

One of the infected tackled him near the checkout counters.

His scream lasted only seconds.

Then blood splashed across the floor.

Chaos consumed the supermarket.

Ethan grabbed Sophia's wrist.

"This way!"

They sprinted deeper into the building.

Behind them, survivors were dying.

The infected spread through the aisles like a tidal wave.

A woman carrying a child stumbled.

Three zombies immediately descended upon her.

Ethan clenched his fists.

He wanted to help.

But there were too many.

If he stopped now, he and Sophia would die too.

They rushed toward the employee-only storage area at the back of the supermarket.

A steel security door stood partially open.

"Inside!"

Sophia slipped through first.

Ethan followed.

SLAM!

He shoved the heavy door shut.

Several zombies crashed against it moments later.

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

The entire frame rattled.

Sophia backed away.

"They'll break through eventually."

Ethan looked around.

The storage room was huge.

Shelves stretched from floor to ceiling.

Boxes filled every corner.

Food.

Water.

Cleaning supplies.

Medicine.

Enough resources to keep survivors alive for months.

His eyes widened.

Then the system suddenly activated.

DING!

Large Resource Zone Detected.

System Mission Generated.

Mission: Secure the Storage Room

Reward:

Inventory Expansion ×10

Beginner Supply Pack

System Experience +100

Failure:

Death

Ethan nearly laughed.

"Failure: Death."

The system certainly wasn't subtle.

Sophia frowned.

"What are you smiling about?"

"I'm not smiling."

"You literally are."

Before Ethan could answer, another loud impact shook the door.

The zombies were still trying to break in.

Fortunately, the steel barrier seemed strong.

For now.

A familiar voice suddenly echoed from nearby.

"Help!"

Both turned.

A young woman emerged from behind several supply shelves.

She looked around twenty years old.

Her supermarket uniform was covered in blood.

Not her own.

"I thought I was the only one alive back here."

She looked ready to cry.

Sophia immediately approached her.

"Are you hurt?"

The woman shook her head.

"No."

"Just scared."

Ethan noticed a blue notification appear.

Scanning Target...

Emily Carter

Age: 21

Profession: University Student

Current Occupation: Part-Time Cashier

Loyalty: 15

Destiny Value: B+

Status: Eligible Designated Female

Ethan blinked.

Another one?

The system was apparently identifying women with high destiny values.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

The notification changed.

Would Host Like To Designate Emily Carter?

YES / NO

Ethan selected YES immediately.

DING!

Designation Successful.

Current Designated Females: 2

Emily suddenly sneezed.

The system window disappeared.

Ethan rubbed his chin.

He still didn't understand exactly how the destiny rankings worked.

But if more designated females meant more opportunities for rebates, he certainly wasn't complaining.

Sophia was already helping Emily calm down.

"What's your name?" Sophia asked.

"Emily."

"I'm Sophia."

The younger woman managed a weak smile.

For the first time since entering the supermarket, the atmosphere felt slightly less hopeless.

Then gunshots echoed from the front of the store.

BANG!

BANG!

BANG!

Everyone froze.

The man with the handgun.

He was still alive.

More gunfire followed.

Then screaming.

Then silence.

Sophia's face paled.

"Ethan..."

"I know."

The front area had become a slaughterhouse.

The infected would eventually spread throughout the building.

They couldn't stay here forever.

Ethan walked toward one of the storage shelves.

Rows of bottled water sat inside unopened boxes.

An idea formed in his mind.

The system rewarded gifts.

And there was an entire warehouse of supplies sitting right in front of him.

His pulse quickened.

This could become ridiculous.

He grabbed a bottle and handed it to Emily.

"You should drink."

Emily looked surprised.

"Really?"

"Of course."

She accepted it.

Immediately—

DING!

Gift Successful!

Item: Bottle of Water

Recipient: Emily Carter

100x Rebate Activated!

A second notification appeared.

Congratulations!

Reward Acquired:

100 Bottles of Premium Energy Water

Ethan nearly laughed.

It worked again.

And the rewards were slightly different this time.

Interesting.

Different women might generate different rebate results.

The possibilities suddenly seemed endless.

Food.

Medicine.

Weapons.

Tools.

Everything could multiply.

The apocalypse had become a giant opportunity.

A dangerous opportunity.

But an opportunity nonetheless.

Another notification appeared.

Host Insight Unlocked:

The higher the recipient's Destiny Value and Loyalty, the greater the chance of rare rewards.

Now that was useful information.

Sophia's loyalty was already increasing.

If he gained their trust...

The rewards might become even better.

Suddenly, a loud metallic snap echoed through the room.

Everyone turned toward the security door.

The top hinge had bent.

A narrow crack appeared.

Rotting fingers pushed through.

Emily screamed.

The zombies were breaking in.

The storage room was no longer safe.

Ethan's eyes narrowed.

For the first time since the apocalypse began, fear gave way to determination.

He now possessed a system.

Resources.

An inventory.

And a chance to become stronger.

If he wanted to survive, running forever wasn't enough.

He needed to fight.

The steel door shook violently.

The crack widened.

More infected growls filled the room.

And then—

A massive hand smashed through the metal.

Not a normal zombie hand.

This one was twice the size.

Covered in black veins.

Sharp claws extended from its fingers.

A horrifying roar erupted from the other side.

The entire room fell silent.

Even the ordinary zombies stopped growling.

As if they feared whatever was approaching.

A new system notification flashed red.

WARNING!

Mutant Zombie Detected!

Threat Level: High

Ethan stared at the screen.

Then at the monstrous hand tearing through the steel door.

His first real boss had arrived.
