The morning after their victory felt different. The air in the Sovereign’s Vanguard was filled with pride and new energy.

The Advanced Territory Core had transformed the park into a proper stronghold. Mana walls stood taller, and soft golden lights marked safe paths. Lucian stood in the central square, watching citizens train and work together with real hope in their eyes.

Elena approached him carrying a fresh report from Cynthia. “Good morning,”

she said with a warm smile. “Cynthia says the new core increased our resource production by fifty percent.”

Lucian turned to her. The sunlight caught her hair nicely, and her eyes sparkled with quiet excitement. He noticed how confidently she carried herself now.

A small flutter of appreciation stirred in his chest. “Good morning, Elena. Thank you for bringing this.”

Their fingers brushed lightly as she handed him the report. Elena felt a soft warmth spread across her cheeks. She looked away for a second, trying to hide the light blush. Lucian’s steady presence always made her heart beat a little faster lately.

He noticed the blush but quickly focused on the paper. Stay professional, he reminded himself. There was still too much to build. “This is excellent progress. We are growing faster than I expected.”

Cynthia joined them, looking pleased. “The Legendary Hero Summon Ticket is ready whenever you want to use it, Lucian.

The timing feels perfect.”

Lucian nodded. “We will do it this afternoon.

First, I want to walk the new borders with a small team. Elena, you come with me. Aria, guard the center.”

As they walked along the expanded territory line, the city beyond their walls looked calmer. Small groups of survivors waved when they saw Lucian’s banner. Elena stayed close to his side.

“You have changed so much in these few days,” Lucian said quietly. “From someone running in fear to someone I trust at my side.”

Elena smiled, a gentle blush rising again. “That’s because of you. The way you lead… the way you protect people… it makes me want to be better. To stand beside you properly.”

Their eyes met for a moment. The air between them felt warmer. Lucian felt that slight pull again — her sincerity was genuine and refreshing. He gave her a small, rare smile. “You already are standing beside me well, Elena.”

She looked down, the flutter in her chest stronger now. “I’m glad.”

They continued their patrol in comfortable silence, occasionally pointing out areas that needed more defenses.

A small group of monsters appeared near the border. Lucian and Elena handled them together smoothly. He stayed protective without being overbearing, and she fought with growing confidence.

When the last creature fell, Elena wiped her blade and looked at him. “We make a good team.”

“Yes,” Lucian agreed, his voice soft. “We do.”

Back at the main building, the entire territory gathered for the Legendary Hero Summon. Lucian held the glowing ticket high. The plaza filled with anticipation.

The ticket dissolved into brilliant golden light. A tall, elegant figure emerged — a woman with flowing dark hair, sharp emerald eyes, and ornate robes that shimmered with magic. She carried a staff topped with a glowing crystal.

The woman knelt gracefully. “Celeste, High Arcane Advisor, answers the Sovereign’s call.

My knowledge and power are yours to command.”

Lucian helped her rise. “Welcome, Celeste. You join a growing family here. We build not just with strength, but with wisdom.”

Celeste studied him with intelligent eyes. “I sense a strong vision in you, Sovereign. I will support it fully.”

Elena watched the new hero with curiosity and a tiny hint of protectiveness. She stepped a little closer to Lucian. “She seems very powerful.”

Lucian nodded. “She will help us grow even faster. We are lucky to have her.”

As the day continued, Celeste quickly proved her worth. She helped Cynthia optimize resource flow and taught basic magic to promising citizens. The territory felt more alive than ever.

In the late afternoon, Lucian found a quiet moment on the roof with Elena. The city stretched out peacefully under their control.

“You looked a little worried earlier when Celeste arrived,” he said gently.

Elena blushed lightly. “Maybe a little. Everything is changing so fast. But I trust your choices. I just… want to stay useful to you.”

Lucian turned to face her fully. “You are useful, Elena. More than you know. Your support and growth mean a lot to this place — and to me.”

Their eyes held for a longer moment. The slight chemistry between them felt warmer, like an unspoken understanding. Elena’s cheeks stayed pink. Lucian felt the pull but kept his expression composed. He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.

“We have a long road ahead,” he said. “But I am glad you are walking it with me.”

Elena smiled softly. “So am I, Lucian.”

Below them, the territory continued to thrive. New alliances were forming. Celeste was already suggesting ways to expand influence across Manhattan.

Lucian looked out over everything they had built. The Regional Lord Selection victory was just the beginning. Greater challenges and opportunities waited.

With loyal people like Elena, Aria, Cynthia, and now Celeste by his side, he felt truly ready.

The Sovereign’s Vanguard was rising fast.

And nothing would stop them now.

The high of the victory at the West End Library evaporated the moment the scouting party crossed the threshold back into the Administrative Sanctuary. The air inside the marble lobby was thick with the copper stench of fresh blood and the bitter smell of burnt hair. The protective pillars of solid mana, once glowing a pristine, reassuring blue, were violently cracked, bleeding raw, unstable energy that hissed against the stone floor."What happened here?" The West End Library was once a grand monument to human knowledge, a neoclassical masterpiece of white marble and towering glass. Now, under the suffocating crimson sky of the System, it looked like a ruined, gothic mausoleum. Thick, pulsing black vines of systemic corruption clung to the cracked pillars, and the heavy scent of damp paper, old stone, and the sharp ozone of active magic hung thick in the cold air."Aria, take the high ground on the mezzanine," Lucian whispered, raising a gloved hand to halt their advance. He stood in the deep shadow of a collapsed archway, his dark coat blending seamlessly into the darkness.Aria gave a silent nod. Her liquid-silver hair flashed briefly in the dim light before she leaped upward, scaling the stone pillars with supernatural grace and disappearing into the vaulted shadows above.Elena knelt beside Lucian, her breathing controlled and steady. She adjusted her grip on her heavy iron gladius, her knuckles turning white. "They aren't just

The countdown timer for the Battle for Manhattan pulsed in the sky, a steady, blood-red heartbeat cast against the clouds. Five days remained.Inside the Administrative Sanctuary, the atmosphere was a mix of intense martial preparation and structured, civilian prosperity. Thanks to the Advanced Territory Core, the building’s marble lobby was now reinforced with thick, glowing pillars of solid mana, and the outer park was surrounded by heavy stone battlements that shimmered with defensive runes.Lucian stood in the command room, reviewing the logistical ledgers with Cynthia."Our food reserves are secured for the next three months, my Lord," Cynthia reported, adjusting her spectacles with a crisp, professional flick of her wrist. "The water filtration tanks in the basement are running at maximum capacity. With the new labor forces Thrall One is managing, we’ve fortified the eastern gate trenches. We are completely self-sufficient.""Excellent work, Cynthia," Lucian said, his voice car

New walls rose higher, training fields echoed with determined voices, and supply lines ran smoothly under Cynthia’s careful eye.“We have six days left,” Lucian said, his voice clear and inspiring. “The Battle for Manhattan will decide everything. The tension in Manhattan reached a breaking point on the morning of the third day. The golden dome had faded, but a new crimson line now divided the city on the System map — the unofficial border between the Sovereign’s Vanguard and the Seraphina Syndicate. Lucian stood on the highest point of the administrative building, looking toward the Upper West Side. The wind carried distant sounds of movement.Elena climbed up to join him, carrying a light breakfast they had prepared together earlier. “You didn’t sleep much,” she said gently, handing him the food. “I thought this might help.”Lucian accepted it with a small, grateful smile. Their fingers brushed, and he felt that familiar warmth. Elena’s concern was genuine, and her presence had become a quiet comfort. “Thank you, Elena. You always seem to know when I need a moment like this.”She blushed lightly and stood beside him, their shoulders nearly touching. “I’ve been paying attention. We’re all in this together… especially you an

  • Chapter 20: messenger

The Alliance Wars event turned the city into a chessboard of power. Lucian spent the early morning in the command room, studying glowing maps with his inner circle. The Seraphina Syndicate had already formed a strong alliance with two other territories. Their influence was spreading quickly through the Upper West Side.“We cannot let them control more ground,” Lucian said firmly. “But we will not start a war we cannot win cleanly. We offer alliances first. Strength second.”Elena stood beside him, her presence steady and reassuring. “What if Seraphina tries to talk to you directly? From what you’ve said, she knows how to manipulate people.”Lucian’s jaw tightened slightly. “I know her tactics. This time I will not fall for them.” He glanced at Elena. Her quiet support and the way she stood ready to help eased the old memories. A faint warmth passed between them. “Having good people around me makes all the difference.”Elena smiled softly, a light blush touching her cheeks. “Then we
