He stared at her in shock, unable to blink for he couldn’t believe his eyes, he couldn’t think straight as this was happening so quickly.

This was his family…his girlfriend, who he was supposed to engage today after receiving what rightfully belonged to him, after trying his best to prove that he was worthy of the position, only to be ripped off like this by the people he holds dear.

“Micheal…” Mr Stewart called out from the podium, “Please return to your seat with no more interruptions, so as for us to end this ceremony quickly as most of us have other engagements.”

“What?! I’m not going to allow you do this to me!” Mike shouted angrily as he turned to look at each of them in the eye, and suddenly, his eyes met Richard’s, his other friend, who wore a sly smile on his face and Mike need no telling the he is also in on it like the others.

“Stop your whining Mike” Simeon jeered, “like Mr Stewart earlier said…you need to return back to your seat, in order for us to continue with this ceremony.”

Mike smiled and turned around to look at Mr Stewart who was still standing on the podium, and said bitterly;

“Ok…Aside the fact my father, who founded this company from scratch with his own sweat and blood willed this company to me before his death to be handed the position of partner, when I turn twenty six—”

“Oh damn!…here he goes again…will…daddy’s will…” Simeon laughed mockingly as he jabbed Mike’s shoulders yet again, “Say something new boy.”

“Well, how about this…The median contract…the contract with the Roth group that brought billions into this company…the contract with NASA that gave us global recognition…should I keep going?” Mike asked, as he climbed the podium to where Mr Stewart stood holding the speaker phone and when he was inches away from him, he continued contemptuously;

“Please remind me again the reason why we are all gathered here today…?” and when Mr Stewart opened his mouth to answer, he interrupted him scornfully;

“Oh…wait. I think I know the answer…the Lockwood contract….and who had acquired it? Me. So I have no idea of the nonsense you are all spewing!”

Mr Stewart laughed heartily and said in between bouts as he tried to steady himself, for he had doubled back with laughter, “You are really a child…don’t you know what is being referred as pure luck?”

“No…it can’t be! You can’t do this to me!” Mike shouted angrily, hoping for anyone to come to his rescue, any of the wide eyes starting at him, but they just remained mute and continued to stare blankly at him.

“No one is on your side boy” Simeon spat at him, as he walked over to meet them on the podium, “accept it, instead of whining and maybe we can be merciful enough to give you a corner office and be in charge of a tiny contract…hmmm like the Litmus deal.”

“I will be damned!” Mike snarled, as his eyes turned into slits due to anger, “The Lockwood deal is my work…my idea from the very start and I have been pursuing and developing it for two years—”

“…and was it signed under your name or under the company name, Bio-tech?” Mr Stewart hissed menacingly as he stared at Mike disdainfully, from his head to his feet and continued, “Under the company’s name of course…so it’s safe to say that the company can appoint you or anyone in charge of the contract, irrespective of who you are…So Mr Simeon..” he turned to look at Simone and continued, “From today onwards, you are to be in charge of the Lockwood contract in Mike’s place and since you are on it, I want you to check his file and relive him off any other important contracts, he might need a break.”

“Right away sir” Simeon answered with a satisfied smirk on his face. “thank you for this wonderful opportunity Mr Stewart, be rest assured that I won’t let you down.”

“No you won’t!” I snarled, “for I’m going to involve the lawyers…I’m going to sue you all for this!”

“Oh boy…you will only end up waisting you precious time…and ours too, for everything have all being finalized with our lawyers and had your father’s will… nullified.” Mr Stewart spat back at him in anger, for he was getting tired of all the bickering and going back and forth with Mike. He needed to end things quickly so that he can quickly go see his mistress.

Mike turned to look at Lily, who has been standing silently watching it all play out, with her gloved hands tucked lovingly under Simeon’s as though they were long time lovers.

“For how long?” He asked unwillingly, for he wanted this nightmare to end, “How long have you been cheating on me with my best friend?”

“Hmmm… I think for five years? Right honey?” Lillian turned sideways to ask Simeon, who nodded and smirked at Mike, who was staring back at them, white as sheet.

“Five years?” Mike spluttered, “You have been sleeping with my best friend for five years?”

“Why are you surprised?” Lillian asked spitefully, “I admit growing up with you sparked some emotions, but it was just fleeting…like a wisp of smoke… nothing concrete…actually, we just looked good on paper, but behind closed doors, I was being held by a real man.”

“Tsk tsk…now baby” Simeon crooned and gave her a peck on her cheek, “We won’t be in the secret anymore, as you will soon be my wife.”

“I can’t wait!” She breathed excitedly and returned his kisses, knowing very well it will further aggravate Mike and she succeeded, for in a split second, everywhere was in disarray as the sound of screams and glass shattering filled the hall, so loud that the security officers stationed at the entrance of the building had to be summoned.

“Take him out of here and throw him outside the building premises!” Mr Stewart ordered while pointing at a disgruntled Mike, who had blood on his fist—Simeon’s blood. “He should never be allowed in this premises again!”
