CHAPTER SEVEN:

Elena stood frozen on the rain-slicked pavement, her chest heaving, her palms still raw from the fall. She watched as the man before her fought marvelously. Her eyes glint at every moves he took.

With one punch, he knocked out one of the men who was rushing towards him with a baton. She watched as Darius kicked the man into the gutter, while he dampened his clothes.

The gang leader was visibly amazed and furious, he couldn't understand how Darius was able to beat up his men.

“You useless brat! You really think you can fight! You just fought with my weaker men.”

" Boys, get him! Beat him mercilessly, I want all his limbs broken. I need to kill him myself for disrespecting me!” He bellowed in fury.

The gangs obeyed his instruacton and ran towards with different kinds of weapon.

Seeing this, Darius’ eyes shone in rage, hot adrenaline ran through his veins, his body screamed for blood.

He charged towards them with precision and accurate force, with just one punch, he rendered them useless, bones broken beyond repair.

Cries of agony and pain filled the alley. The gang leader trembled in terror as he saw Darius coming toward him.

“Who are you?" With a frightening tone, he muttered, “Don't touch me! You are fuçking beast!"

Darius' face was indifferent as he walked up to him. He watched as the mighty leader cowered in utmost fear.

“You are a dead men the moment you send your men towards me! Have you forgotten you wanted my limbs broken and want me dead also!" He said.

“Well, it's your turn to die!" Without more words, Darius punched him into unconsciousness.

The lady gasped uncontrollably.

She couldn't fathom how fast he move. She had seen men fight before. She had grown up in a world where violence was currency, where strength was the only language anyone respected. But she had never seen anything like what had just happened.

Five  armed, dangerous men. And Darius had taken them down like they were nothing.

She ran towards him, and dropped down to her knees. Hee eyes glinted with gratitude, “Thank you very much for helping! I don't know what would have happen without you interfering.

You're really my savior! Whatever you want me to do, I'm going to fulfil it.

My name is Elena!”

Darius glanced at the woman before him casually, “I don't need anything from you! And also, I didn't fight because of you. I did that because I need to protect myself!" He said placidly, "that they brought it upon themselves by being foolish enough to strike at him.”

That being said, Darius walked away.

“How about appreciate you with a million dollars?"

Darius didn't respond.

“Two millions!"”

“Five millions?!"

Darius kept walking and he didn't bother to look back.

Elena watched him walk away, his back straight, his pace unhurried. He didn't look back. He didn't check on her. He didn't ask for her name or her number or her gratitude. He just walked away.

So she did the only thing she could. She memorized his face. The sharp jaw. The dark eyes that held something ancient and terrifying.

I'll find you again, she promised silently.

Darius, meanwhile, had already forgotten her.

He walked through the empty streets, his mind elsewhere. The motel sign flickered in the distance, a tired neon promise of shelter. He had enough cash for two nights. Two nights to figure out what came next.

The room was small. Dingy. The carpet smelled of cigarette smoke and despair. The bedspread was stained. The window faced a brick wall.

Darius didn't care.

The fight in the alley had been nothing. A reflex. The God of War's abilities had settled into his bones like they had always been there, and he understood now that there was no threat on this earth that could truly harm him. A small comfort, considering everything else he had lost.

He thought of Lisa. Of the way she had looked at Harry with those worshipful eyes. The way she had dismissed him, belittled him, treated him like a servant in his own home. For years, he had convinced himself that if he just tried harder, just loved her more, just proved himself worthy, she would finally see him.

What a fool he had been.

He closed his eyes. Sleep came quickly, and for the first time in a long time, he slept peacefully.

---

Morning arrived in shades of gray.

Darius woke to the sound of his phone buzzing against the nightstand. He reached for it blindly, his eyes still half-closed. The screen glowed with a name he had hoped never to see again.

Lisa.

He let it ring. Once. Twice. Three times. Then, with a sigh, he answered.

"What?"

Lisa's voice was sharp, impatient, as if she had been rehearsing her complaint all night. "Where are you? I've been waiting for almost an hour. Harry is hungry, and I don't have time to cook. You need to come back right now and make breakfast."

Darius blinked. He sat up slowly, processing her words. "I'm sorry. What did you just say?"

"You heard me." Lisa's tone was clipped, dismissive. "I brought Harry home with me last night. He needs to eat, and I can't be expected to do everything myself. You're my husband. This is your job."

Darius stared at the wall. The stained, ugly wall. And he laughed. It started as a low chuckle, barely audible, and grew into something louder.

Lisa heard it through the phone. "What's so funny? Darius, I'm serious. Stop messing around and get back here."

"Lisa," Darius said, his voice suddenly calm, "do you even hear yourself? You abandoned me. You left me to drown. You took your boyfriend home and slept on your bed. And now you're calling me to come cook you breakfast like nothing happened? Not even for you but for your good-for-nothing boyfriend. Is that how useless I am?"

There was a pause. A long, heavy silence.

Then Lisa spoke again, and her voice had softened. Just slightly. Just enough to sound reasonable. "Darius, I know you're upset. I know last night was hard. But you're being dramatic. You're perfectly fine. You survived. Can't you just let it go?"

Let it go. The words hung in the air like poison.

"You don't get it, do you?" Darius said quietly. "You never got it. Three years, Lisa. Three years I gave you. And you never once saw me. You never once chose me. Not when it mattered."

"I chose you when I married you," Lisa snapped, her patience fraying. "Isn't that enough? Why do you always have to make everything so difficult?"

Darius closed his eyes. He took a slow breath. And then he hung up.

He didn't block her number. Not yet. He still needed her to sign the papers. Still needed her to show up at City Hall and end this farce once and for all.

But he was done explaining himself.

He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Maybe he just needs time. You know how men are. Their pride gets wounded, and they lash out."Lisa shook her head. "It's more than that. He's never acted like this before. He's always been so soft and predictable. So easy to manage. But last night, when he walked through that door, he looked different. He looked dangerous."Harry's eyes flickered. For just a moment, something cold and calculating crossed his face. Then it was gone, replaced by the soft, helpless expression he wore like arm

Instead of standing here while you tell me I need to apologize to the man who tried to kill me?"“For three years, all I asked for was your attention, your love. Is it a crime to love you, Lisa? He was on the Sea Serenade. The cruise ship that went down in the storm."There was a pause on the other end. Then the dispatcher's tone changed. "Ma'am, the Serenade sank approximately three hours ago. Search and rescue operations began immediately. Why are you only calling now?"Lisa gripped the phone tighter. Her nails dug into the plastic case. "I—I was dealing with an emergency. A friend of mine had a medical crisis. I had to take him to the hospital."Another pause. Longer this time."Ma'am, I'm going to transfer you to the Captain. Hold on, please."The line clicked. Static hissed. From the performance he had been rehearsing since the moment they left Darius behind."We made it," Lisa whispered, staring at the gray sky. Then her eyes widened instantly as she remembered something. "The rescue team, I need to call for rescue. They need to save Darius."She mumbled, scrambling on to her feet, already reaching for her phone. Her fingers trembled as she unlocked it. Trying to make the emergency call. Before she could dial, a loud groan stopped her.Harry had both hands pressed to his chest. His face had gone white. Not the pale of fear, but the pretense pale of a man who knew exactly how to break a woman's heart."Lisa," he wheezed, continuously tapping his chest,"my chest. I thin
