Miley didn’t remember when she had drifted off to sleep.

The last thing she remembered was stepping out of the shower. Although her mind was still quite rattled from the chaos, she was feeling a little better after following Julius' suggestion.

By that time, a cup of hot chocolate was not waiting at her bedside.

Julius must have left it there for her.

Miley was sure that after being so close to being abducted in her own home, there was no way she would be able to get a wink of sleep tonight.

But still, the hot chocolate was tempting and she did take a few sips after sliding under her covers. When her eyelids began to droop, her mind was focusing on the steady sound of his footsteps pacing outside her door, letting it soothe her frazzled nerves.

Just like he said, he would be keeping watch over her.

And somehow, even in sleep, she trusted him.

The next time she opened her eyes, she could hear the very same sound in the background.

At first, she thought her mind must be stuck in

The lady who had spoken up was none other than Penelope Denver; a popular socialite in her twenties, who was now approaching her sixties with the same arrogance as her youth. Mrs. Denver’s voice rang through the crowd once again, as she fixed her gaze on Julius, recognizing him instantly. “Well, I suppose charity begins at home! Though I never imagined it would extend to letting just anyone into such esteemed company." The woman’s fingers, covered in rubies, were wrapped around a champagne flute, her eyes narrowed at Julius. She was an old friend of the late Mr. Garcia, Quella’s grandfather. And she had always resented Julius presence, ever since Mr. Garcia had chosen Julius for his granddaughter, instead of Penelope’s son. She didn't think her son's gambling habits were a good enough reason to reject him, even though the man had buried his whole family under poker debts and court orders. But just because the generational wealth had gone, it didn't mean the generational pride an

Quella’s fingers rested lightly on Kenneth’s arm, apparently, she wasn't done yapping yet. Miley’s lips twitched, but she suppressed her smile. She knew Quella was trying to push her buttons, and using any excuse to provoke her. Two could play at this game, she thought as she took a slow sip from her glass, nodding with wide eyes as if she had been convinced, and was now listening to every word with rapt attention. And Quella was really enjoying the feeling of superiority. “Maybe, it's not that you don't have anything to show off. I mean, not everyone is as blessed, but confidence can make up for some of the things you lack, you know? Kenneth says he loves confidence in a woman. ALL the REAL men do, after all. Isn’t that right, darling?”Her jab was clearly directed towards Julius, who simply rolled his eyes. Meanwhile, Kenneth gave a smug nod. “Confidence is everything in a woman! And listen, Miley! Quella didn’t say a single word throughout the whole elevator ride. As they approached the basement parking, she stormed toward the car without looking back, channeling all her frustration, fury and humiliation into her feet as she stomped forcefully. Her cheeks were dry but her eyes were glassy with unshed tears, her chest rising and falling rapidly as she struggled to maintain her composure in front of the hotel staff. Her arms were swinging stiffly at her sides, she was suddenly extremely aware of the fact that every eye in the building was on her… that everyone was whispering about her. That they all knew about her secrets… it wss unbearable to think that they were all laughing at her humiliation! For the first time in her life, she was walking without noticing the admiring glances thrown her way, tossing her hair… because the shame of having anyone's eyes on her, was unbearable! As soon as the car door opened, she slid into the back seat, arms wrapped tightly around herself.

The rooftop bloomed back to life once the storm had passed.Waiters floated around as guests looked up expectantly murmurs soft and approving as Julius took the podium. The city’s majestic skyline spread out behind him, but everyone's attention was fixed on the tall figure in a navy suit. And even though he was completely a new face for some people standing there, his expression, his build and his self-assured attitude was making everyone believe that he completely belonged there.“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen!” Julius began, his voice calm but firm. “Thank you for being here today, and for your patience. I know it hasn’t been the quietest gathering, but I hope to make it a meaningful one.”Soft chuckles rippled through the crowd.“My name is Julius Colton, and today, I would like to introduce something very close to my heart: Project Homefront Horizon. Kenneth leaned in the plush leather seat of the parked Mercedes, one ankle crossed over his knee as he scrolled through his phone. The glow of the screen illuminated his beady eyes, casting shadows across his face. A satisfied smirk formed on his face as he reviewed the footage one final time. He tapped a contact and lifted the phone to his ear. "Good!” He purred the moment the line connected. "Now post it. And make damn sure it is at the top of all the trends… I’m not paying you for nothing." The call ended and Kenneth exhaled, leaning his head back against the seat. "Didn’t I tell you, honeyplum?" He turned to Quella beside him, his voice dripping with smug satisfaction. “That I will make him pay." Quella gazed at him through half-lidded eyes, giving him a seductive smile. Without a word, she leaned into him, her head resting against his shoulder, pressing her breasts against his arm that drew a low chuckle from him. "Yes, baby!” She cooed, her fingers tracing

Julius was in the backseat of the black car, looking sideways out of the tinted windows. The glow from his phone screen illuminated his face, but his expression remained unreadable. Miley sat beside him in silence, casting worried glances at him, but Julius was looking more self- assured than ever. He tapped a single contact on his phone, which was an encrypted line. The call connected after one ring.“This is the God of War. You must have seen the articles, just initiate full sweep. I want every article, every post, every scrap of that trash gone. Everywhere.”The voice on the other end replied instantly, no questions asked. “Understood, sir.”Julius ended the call and leaned back, catching Miley's eye and gave a half-smile.“Now, it's time to show them who owns the board.”---At the Garcia Mansion, the fragrance of fresh roses was spread in Quella's bedroom, as two figures huddled on the bed under the warm candle light. A sharp knock echoed through the apartment, breaking the complete silence that was present between Kenneth and Quella as they sat on the edge of their messy bed, clutching their phones and trying to retrieve the articles from their search history. Kenneth, still shirtless, frowned and stood up.“That must be the delivery guy,let me check” he muttered, throwing on a pair of joggers and walking toward the front door. But as soon as he opened the door his eyes widened in surprise. Two uniformed officers stood before him, one of them holding up a badge. “We are here for Mr. Kenneth Colton?” the taller officer asked.Kenneth straightened his spine and folded his arms, wary. “Yeah?I am Kenneth Colton. What do you want and why are you here in the first place?”“We need you to come with us right this instant,” the officer said firmly. “You've been summoned.”Kenneth scoffed. “Excuse me? Summoned? Kenneth’s smirk deepened as he crossed his arms, squaring off against Julius with the air of a man who had already won. “What is there to see?” he taunted. “Haven’t you learned the truth even after years of experiencing the same thing?”Julius looked calm, unbothered. “Who knows,” he said coolly, “when the tide will turn.”Kenneth laughed aloud, loud enough to draw a few side glances. “Tide?” he scoffed. “Do you even know what happens to cockroaches like you when the tides actually turn? You’re swept away by the current and die.” He gave a mocking little clap. “Such poetic nonsense. Keep dreaming, Julius.”He stepped a little closer, eyes gleaming with malice. “By the way, haven’t you brought your little insurance policy with you?” Julius raised an eyebrow, confused, and Kenneth grinned. “Your girlfriend. The next evening, Miley sat at her desk, surrounded by stacks of financial reports. The Duke’s company finances were far more complex than she had anticipated, and merging them with her own accounts was proving to be a tedious task. She rubbed her temples, willing the numbers to make sense. The dim glow of her desk lamp cast long shadows across the room, the only sign of life in the otherwise silent office. A knock at the door interrupted her thoughts. Before she could respond, a young man named Lorence sauntered into the office, he was one of the junior accountants. He leaned against her desk with an easy smirk, as if they were old friends. His tailored suit was too expensive for his position, his cufflinks gleaming under the light. “You look like you could use some help,” he said, his voice dripping with false concern. “I’ve got nothing but time. You can take any help from me, anytime. I’ll be of use.” His emphasis on the last word made her skin crawl. Miley didn’t even glanc

The morning sunlight filtered through the tall windows of the estate, casting golden streaks across the wooden floor. Miley was still in bed when the scent of roses hit her nose, dozens of them. She blinked, stretched, and sat up, only to gasp. The entire living room had been transformed. Roses in hues of red, pink, and white were everywhere bundles on tables, bouquets in vases, and petals scattered across the floor like confetti from a royal celebration. Gifts in ornate wrappings adorned the foyer. Beside one of the larger flower stands stood a note with an elegant golden seal.Julius, who had just finished his morning black coffee, picked up the card and frowned. “Duke of Glamorgan,” he murmured.Miley peered over his shoulder, reading aloud, “To the newlyweds—my blessings and warmest congratulations. Miley is like a daughter to me. I couldn’t be happier. I've arranged a private dinner for the two of you tonight. Wear something fitting.”Julius sighed and rubbed his temple. “I have

The house was quieter than usual that evening. No television murmuring in the background, no kettle hissing on the stove. Just the soft shuffle of footsteps and the occasional creak of wood as Miley moved about the living room, placing her wildflower bouquet in a simple glass vase. The cream and blush petals looked delicate, a quiet contrast to the stormy day they’d had.Julius stood nearby, loosening the tie around his neck, his jacket already slung across the armrest of the couch. He watched her without speaking, a subtle intensity in his gaze. It wasn’t just her dress or the curve of her smile. It was the way she moved careful, yet completely unafraid. Still here. Still his… somehow.“You’re awfully quiet for someone who just got married,” Miley teased softly, glancing over her shoulder. He exhaled through his nose, the corner of his mouth tilting. “I’m still letting that part sink in.”She turned to face him, her fingers twining in front of her. “Regretting it already?”His eyes s

The courthouse doors clicked shut behind them, sealing away the vows they had just exchanged with the kind of quiet finality that felt heavier than expected. Miley clutched the modest bouquet of wildflowers, baby’s breath and pale wild roses, still she was not entirely able to believe they were hers. Her fingers brushed over the petals like a dream she didn’t want to end.“We’re married,” she said, her voice barely louder than a breath.Julius gave a faint nod, glancing sidelong at her. “I’m sorry,” he said. “I was too worried yesterday. I should’ve gotten you real flowers.”Miley blinked at him. “These are real flowers.”He gave a small huff of amusement. “You know what I mean.”She did. And yet, the idea of him stepping off the sidewalk to pick them just for her made them more precious than a florist’s bouquet ever could be.But she could not tell him that , yet, even though she really wanted to scream this from the top of her lungs that no flower, no bouquet in the entire world co

Julius left the house with a heavy heart and an even heavier conscience. He needed space and silence.Miley had proposed marriage. She proposed to help him …help him by marrying him.And it was not just any marriage. A no-obligation, pretend-to-be-his-wife arrangement. That would be Logical, strategic for his current condition..completely safe on paper, making him free from all the obligation. But nothing about it felt safe. Nothing about her-soft, stubborn, golden-hearted Miley-was meant for this world of shadows and backdoor politics, where missions ended in blood and trust could be lethal. He drove with no destination in mind, but his instincts led him to the lake. That night, he arranged to meet a few of his most trusted military buddies at a low-profile bar outside the city.Officially, the meeting was to catch up over beers — but the real reason ran deeper. Julius needed their input on the Home Front Horizon project, to make sure every possible security risk had been anticipated. More importantly, he needed fresh intel. The group who had ambushed the summit hadn't claimed allegiance to any known faction. They moved like trained operatives but struck with a kind of brutal recklessness that was worrying. Whoever they were, they weren't amateurs. And Julius wanted to know exactly who he was going to war with.Hours later, after downing too many bottles and trading battle-scarred jokes, the men finally insisted on dropping him back at the estate. They were half-drunk, loud, and yet there was a current of unspoken understanding between them — a brotherhood born
