The towering neon billboards of the underground metropolis cast a violent, unnatural violet glow across the concrete terminal.

Elara covered her eyes, Shrinking back against the Sliding doors of the rusted Subway Car. "W-What is that light? It's burning my skin."

Lyra Thorne dropped her hydro-spanner with a sharp clatter. She looked up at the towering digital spires and made a completely pale expression.

"The Zenith District," Lyra whispered. "This isn't just the second layer. This is the Syndicate's administrative hub."

Noël didn't answer. He checked his interface.

[Current Tier: 0]

[Mnemonic Ledger: 8 / 60 Fractures]

A dull, throbbing pain pierced the center of his skull. The Mnemonic Ledger density was rising. The cost of recalling Gideon's future movements and the layout of the Zenith District was heavy.

Gideon Vance stepped off the platform, his silver rapier resting securely in its scabbard. He didn't look back at them.

"Stay Close," Gideon said, his voice carrying over the hum of the city's power grid. "If you wander off, the Syndicate enforcers won't bother arresting you. They'll just use you as target practice."

In the first place, Gideon wasn't doing them a favor. He needed a guide who could navigate the erased zones of the underground.

They followed him through the crowded labyrinth of scaffolding and rusted iron walkways. Thousands of survivors and low-tier brokers bustled through the market stalls, trading scraps for Tribute under the watchful eyes of automated defense turrets.

The mainstream group moved like a herd of sheep, their facial expressions as easy to read as the sentences in a cheap novel.

Suddenly, Gideon stopped in front of a massive, reinforced steel gate stamped with the Syndicate's jagged iron emblem. Two elite guards in polished plate armor barred their way, raising their heavy ether-rifles.

"Halt. Zone restricted," the lead guard barked. "Authorization code required."

Gideon didn't flinch. He reached into his coat and pulled out a small, glowing medallion bearing the seal of the Capital.

"Incarnation Gideon Vance," Gideon said smoothly. "I am here on an expedited inquiry regarding the Silk Queen's assets."

The guard glanced at the medallion, and his tactical display flashed a green confirmation. But before he could step aside, a sharp, synthesized voice crackled from the guard's shoulder radio.

[Hold that authorization.]

The guard froze, tapping his ear-piece.

[Orders from Sector Command. The God-Touched Incarnation is permitted entry. The unregistered vagrants accompanying him are designated as anomalous materials. Confiscate them immediately.]

Gideon frowned. He looked back at Noël, his eyes narrowing into cold slits.

"It seems your information isn't the only thing drawing attention," Gideon said softly. "They know you're down here."

[Sub Trial – The Zenith Toll]

Category: Sub

Difficulty: D+

Clear Conditions: Bypass the gate guards without triggering a lockdown.

Time Limit: 3 minutes.

Compensation: 1,500 Tribute.

Failure: Detention and execution.

Three minutes.

The guards raised their ether-rifles, the safety mechanisms clicking off in unison. Tiing!

Elara clutched her broken spear, her hands trembling violently. "W-What do we do, Kaelen-ssi? There are too many of them!"

Lyra gritted her teeth, reaching for her plasma torch. "I told you coming down here was a mistake! We're trapped!"

Noël looked at them and made a slightly complicated expression.

Of course, fighting their way through elite Syndicate guards at Tier 0 was impossible. The combat power gap was absolute.

He opened his mouth. "Don't move."

He stepped past Gideon, walking right up to the barrel of the lead guard's ether-rifle.

"You're making a procedural error," Noël said, his voice entirely level.

The guard sneered behind his visor. "Shut up, vagrant. You have zero administrative standing in this sector."

"To be exact," Noël said, tapping his Codex interface and projecting his public clearance log into the air between them, "Incarnation Gideon Vance's inquiry falls under Article 9 of the Inter-Factional Accord. Any personnel attached to a God-Touched Incarnation's investigative party are granted temporary diplomatic immunity for the duration of the audit."

The guard blinked. He stared at the floating golden text, his tactical display lagging as it processed the cross-jurisdictional loophole.

Article 9 was a dead law written during the early days of the Cataclysm, forgotten by everyone except someone who had memorized every line of the system's foundational code.

[The Gallery-being 'The Auditor of Ash' bursts into silent applause at your bureaucratic weaponization.]

[The Gallery-being 'Seyl the Unblinking' leans forward, fascinated by your rules-lawyership.]

[300 Tribute has been sponsored.]

[Current Tribute: 9,900]

The guard's jaw worked silently. "That… that article hasn't been invoked in ten years."

"It's still valid," Noël said plainly. "If you open fire on us, you violate the Inter-Factional Accord. Your checkpoint will log an illegal executive murder, and Sector Command will send you to the trenches before the hour is up."

The guard's visor flashed a violent red error message as the system cross-referenced the article. He slowly lowered his rifle, his hands shaking with suppressed rage.

"You…" The guard spat. "You're playing a dangerous game, civilian."

"I'm just reading the rules."

The heavy steel gate slowly ground open with a deafening hydraulic hiss.

Kiiiiiiiik-!

Gideon looked at Noël, a rare flicker of genuine surprise crossing his normally unreadable face.

"You really are full of tricks," Gideon muttered, walking past the paralyzed guards into the Zenith District.

They followed him through the threshold.

[You have cleared the Sub Trial.]

[1,500 Tribute has been acquired.]

[Current Tribute: 11,400]

Noël immediately opened his status window, preparing to dump the Tribute into his stats. But before he could touch the allocation menu, the entire underground metropolis plunged into absolute darkness.

Kuuong!

The neon billboards flickered and died. An earsplitting siren echoed across every level of the subterranean ruins.

[A massive anomaly has been detected in the lower strata.]

[The Mnemonic Ledger density has exceeded safe parameters.]

[Main Scenario #5 – The Sovereign's Awakening has begun.]

Noël stopped dead in his tracks.

It was a monumental monolithic pillar devoid of windows. Its black surface was carved with thousands of pulsing crimson runes that thrummed with immense weight."The ambient pressure here is three times higher than in the lower towers," Gideon said. He leaned on his right foot, his silver rapier drawn, its white-gold solar ether flickering against the gale. "My ether flow is lagging.""Keep your breathing steady," Noël said, wiping sweat and blood from his chin. The Second Spire isn't built from solid stone like the first."Through the swirling haze, the Second Spire loomed before them like a hollow iron cage.Unlike the solid obsidian walls of the First Spire, the Second Spire was composed entirely of thousands of rotating brass gear-platforms, suspended in midair around a pulsing blue energy core."A mechanical puzzle spire," Lyra said, her eyes brightening beneath her helmet visor.
