That streak of shadow wasn't just a metaphor. As Garou triggered the energy reserves stored in his muscles, the air around him seemed to compress, creating a small sonic boom that cracked the asphalt beneath his feet. The drones overhead detected an impossible energy surge; their thermal sensors flashed red because Garou's body no longer emitted human heat, but a cold, static radiation.

Two mini-missiles launched, leaving trails of white smoke in the night air. Garou didn't dodge. He leapt, a single fluid motion that defied the laws of inertia. His right hand gripped the hull of the first drone, crushing the titanium metal like an empty soda can until its internal components exploded in a shower of sparks. He used the remaining momentum to spin in mid-air, his foot smashing into the second drone's body with a force that left the machine twisted and shattered before it could even detonate its missile.

He landed on the roof on one knee, his breath coming in a strange rhythm not an ordinary breath, but a rhythmic thrumming synchronized with his accelerating heartbeat.

"Garou! Don't let your system take over your consciousness!" Irae's voice cut sharply from behind the shadows of the ventilation shaft. The girl emerged, her body draped in a black cloak that seemed to absorb the light around her. Her hands danced through the air, conjuring a shadow shield to protect them from the hail of bullets raining down on their position from a distant attack helicopter.

"I'm not being controlled, Irae," Garou's voice sounded heavy, deeper than usual. "I’ve only just realized that I’ve been holding myself back out of fear this whole time. But that fear... it’s useless."

"Hurry! To the Sector B-7 bunker," Irae shouted while pulling Garou’s arm. "If we get caught here, nothing can save us from the Idle King Protocol!"

They ran through the darkness of the city, dodging the sweep of searchlights that combed every street corner like the eyes of a predator. Garou felt every muscle in his legs throb. Every step was the result of instant adaptation the System didn’t just grant him strength; it provided instant calculations on how to position his body weight for maximum efficiency. They slipped into an old ventilation shaft hidden behind a pile of industrial waste, dropping into a musty underground corridor.

As soon as the bunker door slammed shut and locked mechanically, Garou collapsed onto the concrete floor. The pain began to set in. Blood flowed from a gash on his shoulder, but the wound was closing with terrifying speed his flesh knit back together as if his skin were merely an elastic material being restitched by his biological system.

Irae switched on an old holographic transmitter. The room was instantly filled with a dim blue light, projecting rows of code and ancient medical records.

"Look at this," Irae said, her voice trembling. She pointed toward the projected data. "They aren’t hunting you just because you’re an anomaly. They’re hunting you because they’re afraid you’re *that*."

Garou stared at the data. A term was written in a nearly faded language: The Idle King. The description was brief yet piercing: An entity that evolves through stagnation. The more he remains inactive in his destruction, the more the System will accumulate energy pressure that has the potential to erase local reality.

"They see you as a ticking time bomb, Garou," Irae continued as she shut down the screen, her face pale. "The Idle King is a myth among mad scientists, a figure said to be able to restructure the world with a single breath once he reaches his peak. Every faction, from Helix to the bounty hunters they don’t want you dead. They want you 'harvested' before you reach that threshold."

Garou fell silent. The room felt increasingly claustrophobic. An existential crisis hit him harder than the drone attack had. Was he nothing more than a vessel? Had his struggle to survive all this time merely been a scenario planned by a protocol he didn’t understand?

"I’m not a king," Garou whispered, his voice hoarse. "I’m just someone who wants to live in peace."

"That’s the problem," Irae interrupted. "This world doesn’t let people like us live in peace. Once you have that mark the mark that’s starting to appear on the back of your neck you’re no longer part of the normal food chain."

Garou touched the back of his neck. His skin felt hot, as if there were a searing circuit just beneath the surface. He didn’t want to believe in destiny, yet the evidence before him was undeniable. Something massive, something ancient and dangerous, was embedded within him, waiting for the right moment to explode.

They spent several hours in a chilling silence. Garou processed the data he had just seen, while Irae monitored the radio frequencies that continued to blare reports about the capture of a high-profile fugitive. Every time the sound of a distant siren echoed, the adrenaline in Garou’s body spiked, triggering the system to perform a re tuning a painful process where his bones felt like they were cracking and condensing, preparing for the next battle.

"We have to erase all these digital traces," Garou said suddenly. He stood up, the fatigue in his body slowly vanishing, replaced by an unnatural alertness. "If they can track this data, it means they can track our location through our own heartbeats."

Irae nodded. She hacked the bunker's console, erasing the entire data cache with a single 'wipe' command. The holographic screen flickered out, leaving the room in darkness. They were now in total blackness, illuminated only by the light from the system panels embedded in Garou's eyes.

"After this," Irae asked softly, "what’s our plan? We can’t keep running forever."

Garou looked up at the bunker's concrete ceiling. "I’m not running anymore. If they want to hunt, then let them come. But I won’t be the prey."

Just as those words left his mouth, Garou’s vision shook. Blood-red text appeared before his eyes not through a lens, but carved directly into his optic nerves.

[SYSTEM: IDLE KING PROTOCOL - DETECTED]

[STATUS: 42% SYNCHRONIZATION ACHIEVED]

[WARNING: EXTERNAL SIGNAL DETECTED. LOCATION COMPROMISED.]

Garou’s eyes widened. He felt a vibration beneath his feet not a normal tremor, but a low-frequency vibration that made the air inside the bunker feel heavy. Something was approaching. Something that wasn’t a drone, and certainly wasn’t human.

"Irae, get out now!" Garou shouted.

Before the girl could react, the steel wall in front of them imploded. It wasn’t a conventional explosion, but rather gravitational pressure that crushed the ten-centimeter-thick metal like paper. Thick smoke filled the room, and behind the haze, a pair of glowing blue eyes stared intently at Garou.

It was a man, wearing a tactical suit that seemed to blend into the shadows. He held no weapon, yet around him, the air churned as if the reality in his vicinity were being distorted.

"Subject 0-Garou," the man's voice was cold, like the grinding of metal. "The Idle King Protocol has been forcibly activated by the central system. You are required to surrender, or we will reset the reality of this sector."

Garou felt his heart beat irregularly. This was no longer about escaping bounty hunters. This was something far greater. The man in front of him this entity hadn't come to capture Garou. He had come to execute a deletion procedure.

"Irae," Garou whispered without looking back, "get ready to run. Something much worse than a mere faction is standing in front of us."

The man stepped forward. Every step he took made the bunker floor crack. "Your time is up, Vessel. Let’s see how fast you can 'breathe' when your world begins to collapse."

Garou clenched his fists. He could feel the System within him roaring, demanding to be unleashed. The line between human and monster had become terrifyingly blurred. For the first time, Garou let his breath hitch without control, releasing energy that had been accumulating for days in a single burst of will that shattered every object around him.

He didn’t wait for the man to attack. He lunged forward, a shadow faster than light. However, just as his fist was about to strike the man’s face, a system prompt reappeared, causing his world to freeze for a moment:

[FATAL ERROR: CONTRACT DETECTED]

[INITIATING PROCESS: 'THE DEATH OF THE KING']

Garou was frozen mid-swing, right in front of his enemy's sneering face. He had just realized one thing: he wasn't winning this fight; he was walking into a trap that had been designed long before he was even born.

Garou didn't have time to ask what was happening before the air in the room was sucked out with brutal vacuum force. Whuuush!Oxygen vanished in seconds. Seconds felt like hours; every inch of his body rubbed against something slick and dark, as if he were being forcibly shoved through a narrow crack between two realities.Suddenly, gravity slammed back into him with a vengeance. Garou collapsed onto the cold, damp concrete floor. The thud of his body hitting the ground echoed through the vast, stifling room. The air here was heavy, smelling of rust, expired chemicals, and something sickly sweet like meat left to rot under the sun."Get up. Don't be dramatic," Irae’s voice cut through the silence.
