Ethan’s eyes narrowed as he stared at the carnage before him. "What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

"I told you to leave. To go back to your company. To stay out of my way.”

Lucas’s smirk widened.

Adrian’s face gave nothing away.

Ethan knew exactly why they’d shown up: to get into the chamber for whatever they desperately needed.

But what he couldn’t understand was why today, of all days.

It couldn’t be a coincidence.

Marcel’s hand moved to his gun in an instant, his fingers wrapping around the grip as he started to draw it.

“Drop it!” one of Adrian’s men barked, his weapon snapping up to aim directly at Marcel’s chest.

Three more guns followed, all trained on Marcel.

“Don’t,” Ethan said sharply, his voice cutting through the tension without turning to look at Marcel.

Marcel froze, his hand still on his weapon.

"Your Majesty—"

“Drop it,” Ethan repeated, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Marcel’s jaw clenched, his eyes blazing with frustration.

“But—”

“Now.”

“I did it for you,” Ethan said again, his voice desperate now. "I did it because I love you. Because I couldn’t stand seeing you suffer.”Jessica folded her arms across her chest, her eyes still blazing.“Okay,” she said coldly. "Let’s say I believe you. Let’s say you did it to make me happy. Fine.”She took a step closer, her voice rising.“But then why,” she continued, “did you tell Amanda and the board to refuse to publish anything about you or Adrian? Why did you cage me with the terms of my contract? Why did you make it so I couldn’t do my job the way I wanted to?”Ethan opened his mouth to respond, but she cut him off.“You didn’t just give me my job back, Ethan,” she said, her voice trembling. "You controlled it. You controlled me. You made it so I couldn’t go after the stories I wanted. You turned my job into a leash.”“I did it to keep you safe!” Ethan said, his voice rising now, frustration bleeding into his tone. She scoffed, her hand flying to her hip as she turned away

Jessica let out a harsh laugh when Ethan asked her again what was wrong, acting like he had no idea why she was so upset.“Don’t give me that,” she snapped. "Don’t just stand there pretending you have no clue what I’m talking about.”That made him realize that she knew he'd already figured out what was bothering her using his power."Sit,” he said quietly, gesturing to one of the chairs. "Let’s talk about this.” He reached for her shoulders. Her eyes flashed.“No.” She slapped his hand away, her palm connecting with his wrist hard enough to sting.“Don’t touch me,” she hissed. "And don’t tell me to sit down like I’m some child you need to calm down. You want to talk? Then talk. Right here. Right now.”He exhaled slowly, his chest rising and falling as he fought to keep his own frustration in check. He dropped his hand to his side.“I’m sorry,” he said, his eyes not leaving hers. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.”Her expression didn’t soften. If anything, the fury in her eyes burned ho

Inside the chamber were Ethan, Theo, Marcel, Max.Weeks ago, Ethan had given them instructions—Jessica included—to find people who weren’t just virtuous, but truly exceptional. The kind of people who could be checked out from every angle and still have nothing to hide. Their job was to put together a list of candidates for him to pick from, so that they'd be invited to join The Order.Max clicked a few keys on his laptop, then turned it around so everyone could see the screen.“We’ve narrowed it down,” he said, his tone efficient. "Current status: seven candidates identified. Three have been fully vetted and approved for consideration. The other four still need additional background check."Ethan’s eyes scanned the names on the screen.Max continued, pulling up individual profiles. The first candidate was Dr. Dr. Amara Osei. She ran a nonprofit medical organization in West Africa, providing free healthcare to over two hundred thousand people in the last decade, built

Cavill exhaled. "I’m here to apologize, Your Highness.”Ethan’s smile widened slightly, but he said nothing.“The council… we know we offended you. We turned our backs on you when you needed us most, and we sided with a man who didn’t deserve our loyalty.” Cavill's voice was steady, but edged with shame.“We were wrong. And they’ve sent me here to ask for your forgiveness.”Ethan let the silence stretch before he chuckled softly. He tilted his head, studying Cavill with an amused expression. “Forgive?”“Regardless of what happened, Cavill, I've forgiven you all already. I may be many things—an abomination, as you and others so eloquently put it—but I don’t hold grudges.”He leaned forward slightly, resting his forearms on the desk. "Besides, as the King of the World, even if I am an abomination, I’m not meant to lead with pettiness.”The realization that Ethan was using their own words against them, jabbing them with the very insult they’d hurled at him, made Cavill swallow hard.“Yes
