Not long after, Damien got to his parents old home and the moment he stepped through the door, he just stood there for a few seconds trying to catch his breath. He had just come down from the taxi, and his mind was still spinning from everything that had happened today. His chest felt tight, like someone had wrapped a rope around it and was pulling harder with every breath he took. He couldn't believe it. He still couldn't wrap his head around the fact that Megan, his Megan, the woman he had loved with everything in him, had actually betrayed him in the worst way possible.
She had been sleeping with his uncle for years now, years, and he hadn't known a single thing about it. All this time, while he was out there working hard, trying to build something for their future, trying to be the man she claimed she wanted, she was busy warming Nathaniel's bed behind his back like he didn't even exist.
They had been using him this whole time. Megan had been using him like he was some kind of tool she could pick up whenever she needed something and toss aside when she was done. The thought alone made his blood boil so hot that he felt like his skin was burning from the inside out.
He wanted to scream. He wanted to break something. He wanted to go back to that house and make her pay for every lie she had ever told him, for every time she looked him in the eyes and pretended to care when she didn't care at all.
And he almost died because of them. He almost lost his life because of their schemes and lies, because they wanted him out of the way so they could continue doing whatever they wanted without anyone stopping them. If it wasn't for the system, he would be six feet under right now, forgotten like he never even mattered in the first place.
But the system had saved him. The system had given him another chance, pulled him back from the edge when everyone else had left him to fall. Still, the system had made it clear that he wasn't allowed to deal with Megan right now. It had told him to hold back, to wait, to not touch her for the time being. And Damien hated that. He hated having to stand there and do nothing when every part of him wanted to make her feel the pain she had caused him. If the system hadn't stopped him, he would have crushed her already. He would have drained every bit of life out of her until there was nothing left but regret and tears. But the system didn't want that, not yet, and Damien had learned that when the system spoke, he had to listen.
Still, he knew that the moment the system gave him a mission, the moment it allowed him to act, he wasn't going to hold back anymore. Whenever Megan or Nathaniel came close to him again, whenever they tried to play their games or use him like they had been doing all this time, he was going to make sure they understood that the old Damien was gone. He wasn't going to take it lightly with them, not anymore. He was done being the fool everyone could walk over.
He also knew that Nathaniel wouldn't just fold his hands and let him walk away with the best part of the property. No, Nathaniel wasn't that kind of man. Ever since the calamity happened, ever since their family had been torn apart by tragedy, Nathaniel had taken control of everything. He had stepped in like some kind of savior, claiming he was doing it for the good of the family, claiming he was protecting what was left. But in reality, he had been stealing from Damien this whole time. He had taken all the family properties, all the money, all the power, and left Damien with nothing. Absolutely nothing. Not even a small piece to call his own. Nathaniel had made sure Damien stayed weak, stayed dependent, stayed in a position where he couldn't fight back even if he wanted to.
But now things had changed. Damien had finally gotten what he wanted, what he deserved, and he knew that Nathaniel would fight back. Men like Nathaniel didn't lose something valuable and just let it go. They came back harder, meaner, more desperate to regain what they had lost. And Damien was ready for it. He was ready for whatever Nathaniel tried to throw at him. He was ready to fight, and with the system helping him, he wasn't going to relent. He was going to push back with everything he had until Nathaniel understood that he couldn't be controlled anymore.
This wasn't the Damien they knew before. That Damien had been weak, broken, easy to manipulate. That Damien had trusted too easily and believed too quickly. But this Damien, the one standing here now with fire in his chest and steel in his spine, was someone entirely different.
He was about to walk further into the house when his phone suddenly started ringing. The sharp sound cut through the quiet room and made him freeze in place.
Immediately his eyes dropped down to the phone in his hand, and when he saw the name flashing on the screen, his entire body went stiff. It was Nathaniel. Of course it was Nathaniel. He had been expecting it. He knew that a man like Nathaniel wouldn't stay silent after losing the best property in the family. He would react, and he would react fast.
So when the phone rang again, Damien didn't hesitate. He picked up the call and pressed the phone to his ear, his voice calm but sharp. "I was actually expecting you to call, but I never knew you were going to call this quickly."
At that moment there was a pause on the other end, and then Nathaniel's voice came through, cold and dripping with anger.
"Well, since you don't have any respect for your uncle anymore, and since you have the audacity, the nerve, the might, to actually threaten me and take what doesn't belong to you, I'm going to do something that will hurt you. You think you can stab me in the back like this? You think you can walk in here and take my property, and just go on with your life like nothing happened? No, Damien. I'm going to do what will hurt you the most."

Not long after, Damien reached the place. The taxi barely came to a full stop before he was already pushing the door open and stepping out onto the gravel path that led into the cemetery. His heart was pounding so hard he could feel it in his throat, and his legs moved faster than his mind could think. This was the resting place of his mother, his father, and his younger sister, the one quiet corner of the world that still felt sacred to him, the one place he visited every single week without fail. But the moment he walked through the gate, everything inside him went cold. There wasn't just one man standing there. There wasn't two. There wasn't even three. Damien's eyes moved across the open ground and counted more than fifteen men scattered around the graves, and every single one of them was holding a sledgehammer. Some of them gripped shovels instead, the metal blades resting against their shoulders like tools waiting to be used. A few of the men had made themselves completely comf

Damien's jaw tightened, but he didn't say anything yet. He just listened.Nathaniel continued, his voice getting darker with every word. "Right now, I'm standing at the graveyard where your mother is buried. And you know that both your parents are placed together in that same spot, along with your younger sister. I'm standing right here, Damien, looking at their graves, and I'm giving you just five minutes to bring your stinking self over here. Five minutes. Not six, not seven. Five. And you better bring those documents I asked for along with you, because if you don't show up in time, everything here is going to be destroyed. Yes, destroyed. I'm going to ruin this place. I'm going to crush every stone, break every marker, dig up every inch of ground. Not just that, even if there are skeletons remaining, I will crush those too. So you better get here within five minutes and bring those documents with you, or everything your parents left behind, everything they rest in, is going down. Y

Nathaniel's jaw locked tight. That letter would kill any chance he had of fighting this in court later. It would seal the deal permanently. But even if he tried to fight it, the video would still destroy him.He had no way out.He grabbed a piece of paper and started writing. His hand shook the entire time. When he finished, he threw the pen down and shoved the letter across the bed.Damian picked it up, read it, then folded it carefully and put it in his pocket along with the signed contract."Good. Now we're done. You can have her. I'll take what I want. And we'll go our separate ways."He turned toward the door.Megan's voice cracked behind him. "So this is what I mean to you? After everything? You're just going to throw me away like I'm nothing?"Damian stopped. He didn't turn around. Just looked at her over his shoulder."Oh." His voice was flat. Empty. "You don't even know what's coming for you. This is just the beginning."He looked at Nathaniel next. "A betrayer gets what they
Chapter 5
He wasn't going to let that happen again. This time, he was going to sneak in. There was a blind spot. A way into the house that almost no one knew about. Not even Megan. It was a small door at the back of the house, near the bathroom. It connected to the outside through a narrow alley that most people forgot existed. He'd only used it once or twice, years ago, when he lost his keys.No one would expect him to come through there. He moved quickly, staying low, keeping to the shadows. The rain helped. It blurred the streetlights and muffled his footsteps. He made his way around the block, cutting through side streets until he reached the back alley behind his building. There it was. The door. Rusted. Half-hidden behind an old dumpster. He pulled out his phone and checked that it was recording. The screen glowed faintly in the dark. He didn't know exactly what he was going to find inside, but this time, he wasn't going in empty-handed.This time, he was going to get evidence.Damian mov

The rain started coming down harder. Damian could barely keep his eyes open. Everything hurt. His vision kept fading in and out. He'd lost too much blood. The car stopped. The guards yanked him out and dragged him toward the edge of a bridge. The river below was dark and moving fast. They tied his hands together. Then his legs. The rope cut into his skin, but he didn't have the strength to pull against it.One of the men leaned down close to his face. "In your next life, you'll know when to quit. You'll know some things are only meant for the rich."They picked him up.And then they threw him over the edge.Damian's body hit the water hard. The cold swallowed him whole. He couldn't swim. Couldn't move his arms or legs. The current pulled him under immediately. Water filled his nose, his mouth, his lungs. He tried to hold his breath, but there was nothing left in him to hold.He was sinking. His mind went to his grandmother. Lying in that hospital bed. Waiting for him. She had no one e
