DRAGON ACADEMY: THE CHOSEN

CHAPTER 2

SWIMMING POOL ARENA

Mila walked into the arena and found Cole swimming alone. 

“What are you doing here?” she asked

“I have swimming class”  he replied

“By yourself?” 

Cole smiled “I am the only Atlantean here… so, yes”

“Makes sense”

“You remember me, don’t you?” he asked 

“Maybe” Mila replied 

“Then you’ll know that this is the longest an Atlantean and a water master have talked without trying to kill each other”

“I figured” Mila said with a small smile

Cole then began to swim around the pool at an incredible, blurring speed. He stopped and looked up at her. 

“So, was I fast?” 

“I’ve seen faster” Mila teased

“Says the girl who I  remembered couldn’t make a tide” Cole teased back

With a gesture, Mila bent the water in the pool, creating a large wave that crashed over Cole, capsizing him. 

“How’s that for a tide?” Mila chuckled

THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE

Ms. Green enters the office to find principal Diana waiting 

“So, how is it going?” the principal asked

Ms. Green sighed “the students aren’t getting along… the only ones are Mila and Kenzy but the rest? What should we do?”

Principal Diana pondered for a moment, then a knowing smirk touched her lips “it’s only the first day… no need to rush it. Trust me”

GIRL’S DORM

Later, Mila and Kenzy entered their rooms. They saw Anna sitting alone

“You came late” Mila observed 

“I just had a shitty day” Anna muttered “and what’s your problem?”

“Our problem is that you broke school rules” Kenzy said

“And that bothers me how?” Anna shot back

“You don’t have to be so childish about it”

Furious, Anna stood up “screw you two.. I’m out” 

She stormed to the door, but Kenzy used her magic to slide a heavy drawer in front of it. Without wasting a second, Anna created an axe and swung it, smashing through the drawer and the door. 

Kenzy stared after her “well, she’s rude”

“That was my drawer” Mila said sadly

HALLWAY

Walking through the hallway later, Kenzy was still venting “and then he just destroyed it… right there in front of the whole class”

“Girl, just forget about him” Mila said “and besides, it’s not like we’re ever gonna run into him again”

They stopped at the library door. Mila pushed it open and they both froze. Inside, Cody was floating in the middle of the room, his eyes glowing pure white. Books were spinning around him in a powerful vortex, creating a tornado of paper and wind. 

“What the heck?!” Mila shouted.

“We have to help him!” Kenzy cried 

Mila created a rope out of water and tried to pull Cody out, but the wind force was too strong. Kenzy added her own powers, trying to magically pull him free. The two forces clashed, creating a loud explosion that threw them both to the floor. 

They scrambled to their feet and saw Cody lying on the ground, breathing heavily.

“Thank you” he rasped 

Mila was in shock “who are you?”

Kenzy was more direct “what are you” then she saw the faint, ancient-looking tattoos on his wrist. Her eyes opened in recognition. 

“You’re a spirit person”

Back at a now quiet library, Cody sat on the floor while Mila paced in circles

“How is this even possible?” Mila exclaimed "I thought spirit people died off like two thousand years ago”

“Maybe the legends are true” Kenzy said softly

“What is a spirit person? And what legend?” Cody asked, his voice still raspy

“Sprirt people were the most powerful beings” Kenzy explained “they had interactions with beings out of this world… they could control energy of any form, making them basically unstoppable”

“And the legend?” Cody pressed

“After they died off, legend has it that the spirit people offered their powers to be given to only one soul… per generation” 

Mila gasped in response “so, you’re saying; every couple of years only one person is a spirit person, the once most dangerous being”

“Yes” Kenzy replied, looking at Cody “and unfortunately, it’s him”

Cody puts his hand on his forehead, overwhelmed “I am so getting expelled… what if the principal finds out?” 

“She won’t” Kenzy said firmly

“When did ‘this’ start?” Mila asked

“About a year ago” Cody admitted “I kept having these visions… I thought I worked it all out…”

Just then, the school bell rang, interrupting them

“Let’s go” Kenzy said, her expression serious 

Cody sighed, realizing the problem “if it’s about history class…”

“No need” Kenzy cut him off “I really need to go”

CAFETERIA

The students scattered themselves among the spaces and tables. Jack, Cody and Cole sat at the same table. Kenzy and Mila approached a table where Anna was sitting alone 

“This table’s occupied” Anna said without looking up 

“But the whole table is free” Mila pointed out

“Oh, I just like to eat alone and definitely not with you two” 

“Well, I like to eat so…” Kenzy said, trying to pull out a chair. She was stopped by Anna’s leg, which was suddenly handcuffed to it. 

“Excuse me… or we will ourselves” Mila said firmly 

Their argument was attracting the attention of the whole cafeteria.

“Try it” Anna challenged 

“After you destroyed my drawer, gladly”

“I’ll leave you with a mark” Anna threatened 

“Like the one Sofia left when she beat you? Words spreads fast” Mila shot back

That jab got under Anna’s skin

“She cheated” Anna growled

From his table, Jack watched the scene unfold “this is gonna turn into a fight”

“Let’s not do this now…” kenzy tried to mediate

But it was too late

Anna threw several shuriken at Mila, who deflected them using a shield of water. 

In an instant, the cafeteria became a warzone

Anna created a lasso, wrapped it around Mila’s arm and used it to twirl her across the room, sending tables and chairs flying. 

“I thought you’d be hard to beat” Anna taunted. “I guess it’s not like father like daughter?”

Furious, Mila used her power to bend water and cut the rope, freeing her from Anna’s hold. She then condensed water from the air into a giant fist and punched Anna across the room. 

The cafeteria watched the fight with amusement.

Anna got to her feet, panting

“Is that all you got?”

“There’s more where that came from” Mila raised her arms, pulling water from every source in the room; the water bottles, drinks and even the condensation from the windows. 

Mila was about to strike when Ms. Green appeared in between them.

“Enough!”

The entire cafeteria went silent. Mila immediately dropped the water. Anna retracted her weapons.  

“Mila, Anna… you both get detention” Ms Green announced

“Ms. Green, Mila was just trying to defend themselves” Kenzy came to Mila’s defense

“Then in that case, you get detention too”

"Why?" Kenzy asked, confused

“Because you are trying to defend your friend even though she committed an offence… we don’t do that in Dragon Academy”

Ms. Green’s gaze fell on Cody “you”

Cody looked up “Ma’am?”

“The librarian said you were the last person to be in the library…  and now it’s destroyed”

“Oh, I can explain…”

“That will be detention” 

Jack’s lingered at Anna, he then stood up abruptly “he wasn’t the only one”

“And what is a werewolf doing in the library?” Ms. Green asked him

Jack’s gaze went to Cole “Cole made me”

“No, I didnt…” Cole quickly tried to defend himself

“Then that would be detention for the both of you as well” Ms. Green concluded
