The nightclub sprang back into life as Alex took his seat at the table and picked up his half-finished cocktail.

Alex’s demand surprised the Governor. He had expected Alex to ask for some favor which would help him expand his businesses, but the demand for a position on his cabinet came completely out of the blue.Du Monte furrowed his brow, and his expression turned serious.“I have already done a lot for you. Helped you acquire that plot in Washington Square, track down the men who tried to kill you, and even bring down Henry Pietersen. You were supposed to help me win the elections in return.”“And I have been doing just that. Glenmonte, Liechtenstein, New Nevada, and Nexus City are all yours. But if you want me to sway the people of Cobalt Cove in your favor, I am afraid I am going to need a little incentive.”“Not so little after all,” Du Monte muttered, wiping his forehead. “You must understand that I am answerable to the people. And I have obligations to other members of my party and their associates. I can’t just offer a cabinet position to anyone so readily.”“I understand perfectly. Bu

Phillipe Du Monte arrived at the Golden Swing Golf Club, accompanied by just his secretary and a couple of guards, the following evening. The receptionist asked the Governor’s security team to wait outside, allowing only the man of the hour to walk inside."I have never visited this club before. My men are here to protect me from threats,” Du Monte protested, feeling unsure about going alone. But the receptionist smiled in response. “You don’t need to worry about your safety. This club is owned by Mr. Akaash Patel, and we have cameras in every corner. It’s also a stone’s throw away from the local police precinct. And Mr. Patel already has his guards posted at all key entrances and exits. You are completely safe here.”Seeing there was no point in arguing, Du Monte finally asked his guards to wait outside and walked in alone.“At least I can go with—”His secretary tried to butt in, but was stopped by the receptionist.“I am sorry, but you’ll have to wait as well.”One of Akaash’s most
