Raymond’s finger tightened on the trigger as his adrenaline shot up at the sight of Fields lying wounded on the floor.

“This bastard is obviously lying. We should shoot him right here and end this, Captain!”

But Captain Williams wasn’t ready to make a hasty decision.

“He’s got a lot to lose if he lies right now. But so do the people of St. Jakob’s if he’s telling the truth.”

We should shoot him right here and end this, Captain!”But Captain Williams wasn’t ready to make a hasty decision.“He’s got a lot to lose if he lies right now. But so do the people of St. Jakob’s if he’s telling the truth.”Captain Williams lowered his gun and then, without warning, smacked Sergeant Nimitz in the face with the butt of his rifle.“Cuff him and bag him away!”As the rebels reclaimed the old city hall and unfurled St. Jakob’s original flag on its terrace, Captain Williams picked up Fields and lugged him over his shoulder while Raymond cuffed and taped Sergeant Nimitz.***Sergeant Nimitz opened his eyes to a growing darkness. His mouth was taped shut, and there was a jute bag covering his head. With both his hands cuffed and tied to a steel chair, he was completely at the mercy of his captors.“Mhmpf!”Captain Williams

Sergeant Nimitz had just realized how deep a hole he had dug for himself by choosing to oppose the God of War.Calvin’s rebels were one thing, but now that Alexandria’s elite commandos had gotten involved as well, it changed the whole situation. With all his plans falling apart right before his eyes, he knew the only way out of this mess was through the General.“General Varoose is on the line!” the first Lieutenant reported in, handing the satellite radio to Sergeant Nimitz.“I have been receiving too many conflicting reports from St. Jakob’s. What the hell is going on out there?”“We are facing a massive uprising. Calvin Merson has been freed, and he’s rallied the common people to his cause,” Sergeant Nimitz reported in a low voice.“Then deal with the damn rebels! Use your tanks and your snipers and crush the damn rebellion. St. Jakob’s Island belongs to Valheim now. And it will remain that way!”“I am afraid it’s a bit more complicated, General.”“What do you mean by that? Speak t

“Fields! Rayson! I need your help!” Captain Williams yelled aloud. “Apply pressure to the wounds and wrap it all in clean gauze!”Calvin was still conscious, but the trauma and the blood loss were starting to take a severe toll on his broken body.Peeling his eyes open, he forced his lips open.“Captain…Leave me be. I…am no good with you. Just please…get my people out of here. I trust…Commander Payne. And as long as he is alive…victory shall be ours.”“You are my responsibility, and I am not letting you die on me, damn it!”Calvin gritted his teeth to suppress the pain as the commandos applied first aid, patching his wounds as best as they could.“He’s stable for now. But we need to get him to a hospital, Captain. I’d suggest a medivac.”“It’s impossible to get a medivac down here. We are 700 miles away from the nearest Alexandrian asset. We need to carry him ourselves and get him to a local hospital.”“Just stop…”Calvin forced the words out of his mouth, fighting through the pain.“

  • 580. Boxed and Cornered

The terrified rebels jumped out of the military trucks and ran for their lives as the mounted turrets laid down heavy suppressing fire.Bullets whizzed overhead, punching holes into the trucks and cutting down the unfortunate few caught in their line of fire.“Don’t stop moving. We’re dead meat if we stay out in the open. Get to solid cover. Double time it!”Captain William’s voice rose above the blistering hail of 50-caliber rounds and the devastating boom of the main cannons.Explosions lit up the streets as the tanks reloaded and pushed forward, launching another volley of HE rounds to blow up the rest of the trucks and bikes.Tossing smoke bombs to cover their escape, Captain Williams and his elite commandos bundled out of the open street, guiding Calvin and his rebels to safety. They finally managed to reach the All-Star shopping mall and force their way in through the locked door.Once inside, Captain Williams gestured to his commandos to escort the rebels upstairs and barricade

The spark that Calvin had ignited soon turned into a wildfire that spread across the island with untamed ferocity. The same people who had once been too afraid to even look at the Valheim soldiers now fought back with guns and grenades.Sergeant Nimitz thought he had brought the situation under control by imposing a nationwide lockdown, but the curfew did little to stop the armed mobs that marched fearlessly onto the streets.Valheim’s patrolling forces were gunned down in cold blood wherever they were spotted, and then the rebels started targeting the fortified checkpoints with Molotovs and phosphorus grenades. With Captain Kessler out of the equation, there was no one to effectively manage the troops scattered across the island, and the rebels took full advantage of the chaos to corner Valheim’s forces into isolated pockets. The fires of the violent protest burned all night long as cars were set ablaze and Valheim’s forward posts and military quarters were targeted with bombs and gr

  • 578. Operation Midnight Mass

Captain Kessler’s death rattled Valheim’s forces. The chain of command crumbled, plunging the deployed soldiers into disarray, prompting them to retreat to safe points and consolidate. As Sergeant Nimitz received the devastating news, it quickly made him realize Calvin Merson wasn’t working alone. The only logical conclusion that he could draw was that the same men who had rescued Calvin were now coordinating with him to fuel the rebellion.Sergeant Nimitz immediately contacted the secret surveillance agency.“Someone just took out Captain Kessler and his team. They were ambushed outside the Gambit Glass Factory. Find out who we’re dealing with and track them down!”Realizing they were dealing with an unknown armed threat, Sergeant Nimitz decided not to push his luck too hard.Valheim had already taken a beating from Alexandria’s bomber planes and submarines, and any chaos on St. Jakob’s Island was only going to add to their troubles and expose a new line of weakness. He picked up the
