The exit doors opened, and Amelia promptly followed Coulter to the parked car, her hands clasped in front of her, her brows lightly furrowed.
She stood there, her posture tense with uncertainty. Was she supposed to go back up? Or was there something else? She was never supposed to come down with him anyway. "Hello?" Coulter said, bringing his phone to his ear, his brows slightly furrowed. Amelia waited. He wasn't saying much, just nodding to the other person. After a minute, he suddenly turned to her and gestured towards the car. "What?" She mouthed, her brows rising. "Get in, Amelia." Her lips parted, but she immediately nodded and entered the open door. Coulter closed the door, and she watched as he continued to talk on the phone before finally coming around to the driver's seat. Amelia bit down on her lips as Coulter started the car, then pulled out of the hotel's driveway. "Where are we going?" Amelia asked, her voice low. Coulter said nothing, his eyes focused on the road ahead, his hands tightening around the steering wheel. Amelia sat back, her chest slightly heaving as she forced herself to look away from him. The car ride was silent, tense, and abruptly cut short when Coulter suddenly stopped in front of the massive city banquet hall. "Get out," Coulter said, turning to Amelia. She nodded, her confusion growing as she took one look at the banquet hall yet again. She slowly got out of the car, and Coulter followed, leading her into the banquet hall. They had barely entered the large hall when they nearly bumped into Melissa, who was with Caleb. She was undeniably the star of the day, and she was dressed the part. The people who had gathered to witness the event were all flocking around her like bees, sending praises and compliments her way. Melissa stopped, her brows raised as she took in Coulter and Amelia. The event seemed to stop once she did, and all the attention fell on Coulter and Amelia, who had caused her to stop in the first place. "Is that not the bankrupt CEO of NS Corp?" Someome whispered, gesturing at Amelia. Amelia swallowed hard, her fingers clenching into tight fists as she turned away. Melissa heard it too, and she broke into a snort, then grabbed a champagne glass from a passing waiter. She tapped the glass with her keys, drawing attention back to herself. "Can you please give me some space? I have some private matters to deal with." The crowd that had converged immediately parted, allowing her to move forward. "Should I excuse you, Melissa?" Caleb asked, sneaking a glance towards Coulter. "Oh please, Caleb," she said, linking her arm around his. "You are far too gentle for this world. You are already one of my own, so please, stay.." Coulter's eyes dropped to their linked arms, and his expression hardened to pure ice. "Do you have something to say?" He asked, his voice cold. "I have business to attend to." Melissa laughed, covering her mouth slightly. "Oh, nothing much. I just wanted to inform you myself that I have signed the divorce papers. What do you intend to do with all the junk you left behind in my house?" "You can handle those, Melissa. I have no use for anything that comes from you." All humour dropped from Melissa's eyes, and she straightened. "Oh, Coulter. We both know your financial situation. You are going to be homeless now that I am no longer tbere to out a roof over your head. It would do well for you if you just go and pick those, and try to sell them. They are all brand names, anyway, and they might keep you away from the streets for a few more weeks." Caleb gave a small snicker. "Your pride isn't worth much, Coulter. Certainly not enough to keep you alive. Your priority right now should be the source of your next meal." "You are so kind, Caleb," Melissa said, her eyes falling on Coulter yet again. "If you are smart, you will take what I am giving you while I am still being generous, Coulter. Once I withdraw my generosity, even your tears wouldn't have shelter." She broke into a laugh, and Caleb joined her, like it was some sort of stand up comedy. "That is enough," Amelia said, having had enough of the constant taints. Who even are these people who keep our torturing such a good man? "Stop trying to humiliate him. Who even uses another person's belongings to settle a divorce? If you really are worried about his livelihood, why don't you offer him money? I fear you might not be as magnanimous as you try to paint yourself!" Melissa's eyes widened as she turned to Amelia. "Who the hell do you think you are? You come here, trying to lecture me when you weren't even competent enough to keep your company from bankruptcy?" She laughed, gesturing at Amelia. "Or, did you come for free dood and drinks? Seems typical, seeing how you are walking around with a chronic leech." Before anyone could say a word, Melissa turned, waving towards the security. The security rushed down towards her. "Yes, ma'am." "Check them for a valid pass. This place isn't for beggars, and I know they are trying to sneak their way in for leftovers. Check them now!"Latest Chapter

Melissa went through the hand carved invitation letters she had ordered all the way from Tuscany, Italy. It was a beautiful scroll in a glass encasement, with handwritten elegant royal cursive. The prelude to a gala that promised nothing but luxury.Melissa smiled to herself as she took in the beautiful design. Madam Gabriella was sitting across from her, her eyes somewhat indifferent, her lips pursed in a hard, straight line."You don't seem too happy," Melissa said finslly as the courier came in, giving a small, respectful bow.Madam Gabriella waited as Melissa's attention turned to him. "Here are all the addresses and the family names. Each one is custom, so just make sure you hand them off carefully to each person."The courier nodded and took up the large case that held all the invites, then walked out of the penthouse.Melissa turned to Madam Gabriella once more, her eyes thin. "Yes?"Madam Gabriella simply shrugged. "I guess, nerves?"Melissa raised a brow. "Nerves.""It is th

Amelia knew she didn't have to dress up much. It was a plane anyway. But still, she found herself in front of her mirror, smoothening the pretty black dress over her skin. It was her go-to dress when she absolutely needed to look good, and right now, she hoped she did.Coulter was sitting behind her, his eyes fixed on her reflection. He didn't seem to be in a hurry at all, just watching, taking in every inch of her."You are staring," she said, trying her best to keep her voice stable and not betray the heat that coiled in her stomach."I am," he said simply, nodding like it was the most normal thing in the world. Without another word, he stood up, grabbed his shirt, and then simply put it on."What do you think?" Amelia asked, turning fully now, her eyes following his movement."Perfect."She smiled, content, then let Coulter grab her hand, pulling her out of the penthouse. They got into Coulter's car, and Amelia settled in, her eyes closing, her heart beating hard against her ribs.

Coulter settled into bed right beside Amelia, who was still watching him, her eyes wide and slightly glossy, carrying an innocence that contrasted sharply with the lack of control she had exhibited just downstairs. The lights slowly went off, and Coulter slipped into bed next to her, his eyes falling on her face, his hand resting on the space between them. She looked beautiful, her lips thoroughly kissed, a small smile playing on her lips as she watched him adjust, till they were face to face."It was Ian," Coulter said, an olive branch extended in his attempt to break away from the Web of lies they had started with. She broke into a smile. "You don't have to explain."Coulter fell silent, then slowly pushed forward, his hand reaching out to hers. She was as willing as ever, her hand moving to let his take it, and then parting to let his fingers fill the spaces between his."This is strange," she said, laughing at the infinite amount of butterflies she felt, just lying to a man who sh

Caleb adjusted his clothes, his eyes darting occasionally to Melissa as she typed away on her phone. He had given her the account number to send the money to, and he watched as she typed away with full concentration. His phone lit up with a notification, and he immediately let out a sigh of relief."I sent the five hundred thousand," she said, looking up.Her hair was haggard and pulled out in a few places, and she was in the robe she had worn earlier. "I will take care of the rest for you," he said, covering the distance to her, his hand cupping her face. "Just trust me. Soon enough, you will be the CEO of a fully public company. You will climb up to that platform and ring the bell. I promise you, Melissa."She nodded, her eyes darting across both of his. "I know. I trust you."He finished adjusting his clothes, then turned to her. "I am going to head to the villa now to make sure everything is fine with the decor. The sun is already down, so it will be quick. We can do a full check

Coulter's eyes came to a slow close as his fingers gently came to hover right above Amelia's face, then slowly settled on her jaw. Almost reluctantly, he leaned away, his eyes opening to meet hers, his eyes darting across both of hers."I am sorry," he whispered, his fingers running up and down her face. "This is not about trust, Amelia. This...""Is it because of her? Are you so secretive because she taught you to be?""Amelia...""Are you ready to let it go?" She asked, her voice low, her eyes almost misty. "Are you ready to let her go?""I have, Amelia. I have no love left for Melissa. I haven't ever since the fact. But I am also not ready to...""To tell me who you really are."He bit down on his lips, then met her eyes. "I will understand fully if this is something you don't want to live with. But this is not the time for me to hold your hand and show you the world I live within. I hope you understand, Amelia."He watched the expressions flicker in her face in fast succession. H

Caleb was sitting on the couch in the penthouse, with Madam Gabriella going over last-minute preparations. The party was scheduled for Sunday night, and the invites had already been sent out. The catering was already ordered. An open bar? Check. Suits and dresses for he, Madam Gabriella and Melissa? Check. The fake necklace he had paid to be made? Done, too. Decoration? Furniture? All settled and paid for. The rented cars? Done. The only problem? The main guard had called earlier and demanded more money for the rent of the villa. Caleb had a total of eighty seven dollars and three cents to his name.He sat on the couch as he waited for Melissa to show up. He could barelt register all the things that Madam Gabriella was talking about, ranting about some vintage glasses that she had picked in the open bar option, and how it would be the first of its kind at any elite party. Not just that, but she had also invited all of the friends who had stopped talking to her because of the penthouse
