The exit doors opened, and Amelia promptly followed Coulter to the parked car, her hands clasped in front of her, her brows lightly furrowed.
She stood there, her posture tense with uncertainty. Was she supposed to go back up? Or was there something else? She was never supposed to come down with him anyway. "Hello?" Coulter said, bringing his phone to his ear, his brows slightly furrowed. Amelia waited. He wasn't saying much, just nodding to the other person. After a minute, he suddenly turned to her and gestured towards the car. "What?" She mouthed, her brows rising. "Get in, Amelia." Her lips parted, but she immediately nodded and entered the open door. Coulter closed the door, and she watched as he continued to talk on the phone before finally coming around to the driver's seat. Amelia bit down on her lips as Coulter started the car, then pulled out of the hotel's driveway. "Where are we going?" Amelia asked, her voice low. Coulter said nothing, his eyes focused on the road ahead, his hands tightening around the steering wheel. Amelia sat back, her chest slightly heaving as she forced herself to look away from him. The car ride was silent, tense, and abruptly cut short when Coulter suddenly stopped in front of the massive city banquet hall. "Get out," Coulter said, turning to Amelia. She nodded, her confusion growing as she took one look at the banquet hall yet again. She slowly got out of the car, and Coulter followed, leading her into the banquet hall. They had barely entered the large hall when they nearly bumped into Melissa, who was with Caleb. She was undeniably the star of the day, and she was dressed the part. The people who had gathered to witness the event were all flocking around her like bees, sending praises and compliments her way. Melissa stopped, her brows raised as she took in Coulter and Amelia. The event seemed to stop once she did, and all the attention fell on Coulter and Amelia, who had caused her to stop in the first place. "Is that not the bankrupt CEO of NS Corp?" Someome whispered, gesturing at Amelia. Amelia swallowed hard, her fingers clenching into tight fists as she turned away. Melissa heard it too, and she broke into a snort, then grabbed a champagne glass from a passing waiter. She tapped the glass with her keys, drawing attention back to herself. "Can you please give me some space? I have some private matters to deal with." The crowd that had converged immediately parted, allowing her to move forward. "Should I excuse you, Melissa?" Caleb asked, sneaking a glance towards Coulter. "Oh please, Caleb," she said, linking her arm around his. "You are far too gentle for this world. You are already one of my own, so please, stay.." Coulter's eyes dropped to their linked arms, and his expression hardened to pure ice. "Do you have something to say?" He asked, his voice cold. "I have business to attend to." Melissa laughed, covering her mouth slightly. "Oh, nothing much. I just wanted to inform you myself that I have signed the divorce papers. What do you intend to do with all the junk you left behind in my house?" "You can handle those, Melissa. I have no use for anything that comes from you." All humour dropped from Melissa's eyes, and she straightened. "Oh, Coulter. We both know your financial situation. You are going to be homeless now that I am no longer tbere to out a roof over your head. It would do well for you if you just go and pick those, and try to sell them. They are all brand names, anyway, and they might keep you away from the streets for a few more weeks." Caleb gave a small snicker. "Your pride isn't worth much, Coulter. Certainly not enough to keep you alive. Your priority right now should be the source of your next meal." "You are so kind, Caleb," Melissa said, her eyes falling on Coulter yet again. "If you are smart, you will take what I am giving you while I am still being generous, Coulter. Once I withdraw my generosity, even your tears wouldn't have shelter." She broke into a laugh, and Caleb joined her, like it was some sort of stand up comedy. "That is enough," Amelia said, having had enough of the constant taints. Who even are these people who keep our torturing such a good man? "Stop trying to humiliate him. Who even uses another person's belongings to settle a divorce? If you really are worried about his livelihood, why don't you offer him money? I fear you might not be as magnanimous as you try to paint yourself!" Melissa's eyes widened as she turned to Amelia. "Who the hell do you think you are? You come here, trying to lecture me when you weren't even competent enough to keep your company from bankruptcy?" She laughed, gesturing at Amelia. "Or, did you come for free dood and drinks? Seems typical, seeing how you are walking around with a chronic leech." Before anyone could say a word, Melissa turned, waving towards the security. The security rushed down towards her. "Yes, ma'am." "Check them for a valid pass. This place isn't for beggars, and I know they are trying to sneak their way in for leftovers. Check them now!"Latest Chapter
Chapter 16
Gasps erupted in the hall, and Caleb turned to Coulter, his eyes wide and filled with rage. "How dare you? Do you think we are here to joke? You think this is some stupid roleplay where we all listen to you and play out your impossible whims?!"Coulter said nothing, and even Amelia started to grow nervous. Her grip around his hand tightened.Melissa leaned forward, her eyes cold, and when she spoke, her voice was half devoid of emotion and half filled with venom."I know you want to prove something to me," she said, her voice low, weaving around the wall. "I know you are trying too hard to be the man I would eventually regret losing. But I won't. Accept that I am with a better man and stop playing stupid tantrums!"Counter gave a small sigh but said nothing."Eight million!" The announcer yelled, looking towards where Caleb was sitting. "Is there a counter bid? Anyone?"Melissa looked at Caleb, and Caleb felt a cold dread settle in his spine. He would bankrupt himself. Hell, not just
Chapter 15
The auction began. The first peace was a vintage men's watch, an item that Coulter used to be the owner of after he placed a secret bid on it years ago at ten million dollars. "The starting price for this watch is eighteen million!"Coulter only stared at the watch. He had gotten tired of the watch, and that's why he had added it to the auction list."Eighteen million," A woman said from the back, her voice high. The crowd erupted in a deafening applause. "Is there any other bid?"Melissa turned to Amelia who was staring down at her paddle. "Won't you place a bid? Your boy toy's birthday is in mere weeks. You should get him the best gift for a little manwhore."Amelia's eyes widened as she turned to Coulter who had been absentmindedly staring st the watch. Something inside of her broke. He looked like he wanted the watch, but now she placed a bid now, she would definitely mot have any money for the X shares. She swallowed hard."Go on," Melissa said, as she raised her own paddle. Coulter took his seat next to Amelia, his eyes settling on the bid paddle on top of the set table. A small smile touched his lips before he turned away."I welcome you all," came the announcement, and Coulter adjusted.Amelia swallowed hard, her chest heaving with all the possibilities. She turned to the other section where Melissa and Caleb were sitting, and dread curled in her stomach. She turned away, clearing her throat."I welcome you all to this auction. As we all k ow, we have some extremely valuable pieces, helmed by the extremely priceless X shares, for which the starting bid will be an astronomical hundred million dollars!"Cheers immediately erupted from the crowd, and Melissa turned to Amelia. Their eyes met over Coulter and Caleb, and Melissa gave a wicked grin before she turned away.Amelia's fingers shook with fear. Hundred million dollars. It was more than all of the money she had gathered to fund whatever purchase she would make here. She knew she had been too ambitio
Chapter 13
"Don't you dare talk about him like that!" Amekia said all of a sudden, her eyes wide with all the fury she has contained from the penthouse incident to the Nasdaq bell ringing mishap. "He is the best man I know and...""Oh really?" Melissa said, laughter echoing in the hall as she turned around, gesturing to Amelia. "By all means, high society elites like us are going to listen to the words of a woman who spread her legs wide open in prder to get a mere IPO. Everyone knows exactly what you are. A prostitute disguising in the ocersized clothes of a CEO. A wanton woman who opened her legs for a man who was too vulnerable after the divorce with his wife to actually know he was getting in trouble!"Coulter's jaws stiffened, and without a word, he moved, pushing Amelia behind him, so he was face to face with Melissa. Amelia was shaking from blind rage, her chest heaving hard as she struggled to contain herself and not bring more chaos to the already big crowd of people. She could hear t

Amelia smoothed the simple but elegant black dress she had picked out for the auction. It was form fitting, yet nothing that stood out to the crowd. She checked her simple, nude makeup once more, just as the doorbell started to ring. She slid into her heels and grabbed her purse, theb immediately ran towards the door.Coulter was standing outside it, in a simple black suit that fit her dress very beautifully. "You look... nice," she said, her voice low as she took him in.Coulter let his eyes drop from her face to the simple ensemble. "You are ready?"She nodded, letting a small smile part her lips. She did a little twirl, her hands on either side of her. "I am. What do you think?"Coulter gave a kind smile, then simply nodded, giving her his arm. "You look nice, too."Slowly, they went down the elevator to the waiting car. The Sunbeam hotel was a forty five minutes drive, and Amelia chatted aninatefly about the effects of going back to the office. How everything seemed mew yet famil
The Invite
A sleek, black envelope arrived at the penthouse by 8:30 a.m. Amelia stood in front of the mirror, taking her reflection in. A mere week ago, she had lost everything. She had been pointless, reeling in a pole that was a mere wcjo of the one she used to know. But now, with Coulter'a help, she would be going right back to her office. The office she worked hard for, even better. Her eyes closed as she adjusted the dress, then walked to the door. She had expected Coulter. He had been silent ever since he dropped her back off at the penthouse last night. She opened the door, and to her surprise, there was no one. Just a black, sealed envelope with nothing but an X inscription in gold at the back. She took it and slowly opened it, her eyes scanning the words. It was an invitation to a private, prestigious auction, and one of the auctioned items was shares from a particularly, obscure company. Shares that were enough to elevate even a dying company.Without hesitation, she called Coulter, t
