CHAPTER 5: Toward the Third Floor

"Shit, what's happening?!" Elang struggled to brace himself as the violent tremors threatened to knock him off his feet.

The massive shockwave from behind caused the empty white void to fracture. A bone-chilling cold seeped through the dimensional tears, numbing Elang’s sensory nerves until his very breath felt frozen.

The Observer of the End was not an entity he could fight at a mere Level 9.

"A single second of hesitation means death," Elang hissed.

The two doors in front of him seemed to call out, promising a false sense of security from the forbidden entity pursuing him. However, the Warlord's warning kept ringing in his head. Elang realized that the moment he stepped through either door, he would become nothing more than their pawn.

"I won't be anyone's pawn!"

Elang slammed his foot down, fully mobilizing his newly purchased 20 Stamina. The muscles in his arms swelled, veins bulging as he gripped the Steel Longsword with both hands. The golden aura of Awakened Will began to fuse with his blade, causing the silver steel to glow brilliantly.

[Skill: 'Focus Breathing' Active!]

[Power Output increased: 110%... 120%!]

"Shatter!!!"

Instead of running inside, Elang swung his blade directly at the center line separating the two doors—the exact spot where the secret message had materialized.

BOOM!

A catastrophic backlash of energy erupted. His steel sword vibrated violently, nearly snapping from the impact against the Translators' authority.

As the two doors began to crack, the colossal eye of The Observer of the End appeared right behind Elang's back, opening its lids to reveal thousands of tiny, starved hands.

Right before those hands could clamp around his neck, the reality in front of Elang shattered. He didn't find a new floor; instead, an endless abyss of darkness opened up.

[Warning! You have destroyed the Tower's official pathway!]

[System attempting to resynchronize...]

[You have entered a hidden pathway: 'The Void Between Floors'.]

Elang’s body was swallowed into the rift he had created. As he plummeted, he caught a final glimpse of the doors belonging to the Black Snake Clan and the White Crocodile Demon shattering into millions of pieces, accompanied by the furious roars of the Translators echoing in the distance.

Thud!

Elang landed on a surface that felt like water yet was as hard as stone. When he opened his eyes, the system delivered one final notification that nearly made his heart stop beating.

[Congratulations! You are the first Player to reject a Sponsor below Floor 10.]

[You have unlocked the Hidden Class: 'The Unbound Sovereign'.]

[Loading Floor 3...]

[Floor 3 unlocked... Location: The Graveyard of Forgotten Gods.]

Before him, the silhouette of a knight clad in pitch-black armor sat atop a mountain of skulls. Driven into the pile was a sword identical to Elang’s, but ours was enveloped in a blazing black fire.

The knight looked up, and beneath his steel visor, his eyes burned a fierce crimson—exactly like Elang's when he was consumed by rage.

"So," the knight’s voice was heavy and commanding, "you would rather choose a masterless hell than a shackled heaven?"

Elang straightened his posture, leveling his steel sword even though his hands were still trembling. "I choose my own path."

The knight stood up, and instantly, thousands of spirits around them began to howl with starvation. They surged with excitement upon seeing Elang, as if they had just discovered fresh prey.

[Class Change Quest Initiated: Defeat Your Future Shadow!]

The thousands of spirits that had been wailing in sorrow now erupted into a deafening, hysterical shriek. They swirled around Elang, creating a violent storm of bone dust that completely obscured his vision.

"My future shadow?" Elang gritted his teeth.

The black-armored knight did not wait. With a single stomp of his foot, the mountain of skulls beneath him shattered into splinters. In the blink of an eye, he was already right in front of Elang. His black-flamed sword swung horizontally, cleaving the air with a sound like a roaring dragon.

CLANG!

Elang managed to parry, but the impact was so devastating that his feet sank into the ground. His hands instantly went numb and shook uncontrollably. His newly bought Steel Longsword let out an alarming cracking sound.

[Warning! Weapon Durability: 45/100]

[The enemy is utilizing the Authority of the Void. Your physical stats are suppressed by 15%!]

'Shit! His strength makes no sense!' Elang thought in a panic. He immediately activated the skill Focus Breathing, his lungs burning as they demanded a maximum supply of oxygen.

The knight drew back his sword and whispered right in front of Elang’s face, "You claim you want to choose your own path, yet you can't even withstand a single stroke of my blade. A masterless path is a path to death."

Thud!

A brutal kick crashed into Elang's stomach, sending him flying ten meters back until he slammed into a massive, moss-covered tombstone. Fresh blood erupted from Elang’s mouth.

[HP: 35/100]

[Warning: If HP reaches 0, your soul will be claimed by the Graveyard of Gods!]

"This is only the third floor... am I really going to give up here?" he muttered, clutching his throbbing solar plexus.

Amidst the excruciating pain, Elang’s eyes caught something bizarre beneath the knight's armor through Architect’s Sight. Every time the knight moved, there were thin, glowing purple threads connecting his heart to the thousands of spirits floating in the air.

"He's not a knight... he's the core of all these spirits," Elang murmured, struggling to force himself back up.

Elang realized one crucial thing. This knight was the image of a perfect Sovereign—powerful, supreme, but surrounded entirely by death. That was the future the Tower offered if he merely chased raw power.

"I did choose my own path!" Elang stood tall, now gripping his sword in a reverse-hand style. "But that doesn't mean I have to become a monster like you!"

Suddenly, his status window flashed wildly.

[Hidden Condition Fulfilled: Realized the essence of the Unbound.]

[Exclusive Skill Unlocked: Sovereign's Rejection (Rank Unknown).]

"I reject this miserable future!" Elang roared.

The golden aura of his Awakened Will suddenly shifted colors. Instead of merging with the knight's black flames, the aura exploded into a shockwave of pure white light, snapping the purple threads connecting the spirits.

The black knight froze, visibly shocked by Elang's actions. "What have you done?! Without those spirits, you have no power!"

"I have the resolve that you forgot," Elang replied coldly.

He lunged forward, his speed twice as fast as before. When their blades collided for the final time, Elang's sword shattered into pieces, but the shards shot forward like bullets of pure light, piercing through the gaps of the knight's helm.

CRACK!

The knight's helmet shattered, revealing a face identical to Elang's, but pale and webbed with dark lines.

[Class Change Quest: 90% Completed...]

[Warning! Something far grander is awakening at the bottom of the Graveyard!]

The ground beneath them split open, and from the depths of the chasm, a colossal hand made of thousands of white bones emerged, reaching out to grab both Elang and his shadow simultaneously.

"If you are my future," Elang snarled, grabbing his shadow by the throat as they began to get dragged down into the abyss, "then let me be the one to rewrite the next chapter!"

The exact moment the skeletal hand closed around them, a blinding flash of light swallowed everything.

[You have lost consciousness...]

[Synchronization with Hidden Class: 'The Unbound Sovereign' has reached 100%.]

[Welcome to the real Floor 3.]
