Chapter 29. Valuable Asset

Adam returned to the camp, his mind reeling with the rapid turn of events. Just yesterday, he was a lone adventurer, and now he was a cadet in the royal army on the verge of becoming a captain in the royal army. The thought sent a thrill through him.

As he walked, Adam's thoughts turned to the kingdom's internal affairs, soon to be within his grasp. He envisioned the downfall of Kryptoria's kingdom, a long-held ambition. Next, he would turn his attention to the Elven race, their arrogance and superiority complex infuriating him. They had treated him like trash and even sought to end his life the moment he was reincarnated into this elven body. Only he gods know what the past Eryndor had suffered in their hands. But soon, all of that will change. In his past life, he was just a military officer, but even his rank and amiability didn't save him from being betrayed and eliminated by the very same people he trusted.. but now.. in this new body.. with this new power..

A calculated smile spread across his face, hidden from prying eyes. Adam blended into his surroundings, playing the role of a model soldier. But beneath the surface, his ambition burned brighter than ever.

Marcus approached, breaking the train of activities. "Hey, Adam. People are talking about Captain Vodka's behavior. He seems to think you're trouble."

Adam's expression remained neutral. "Just doing my job, Marcus. We are soldiers and our loyalty is to the Kingdom, not to a fellow soldier."

Marcus nodded, his eyes serious. "Be careful, Adam. You're rising fast, and that can make enemies. They seem to think you got in through the backdoor."

Adam nodded, his focus unwavering. His ultimate goal loomed ahead, and nothing would distract him from achieving it.

The recruits' chatter swirled around him, but Adam's mind remained fixed on his mission. The kingdom's downfall was within his sights, and he would stop at nothing to make it a reality.

Adam headed back to his quarters, eager to see how Grimp was doing. He had missed the ever-loyal goblin which he saved from the orcs a few months ago. Grimp had devoted everything to him from that day. He wanted to know if the goblins and his other subjects were thriving.

As he walked, Adam's thoughts drifted to his past life. He remembered how his friends and colleagues in the army had betrayed him. A shiver ran down his spine as he remembered being run over by the speeding truck.

"What if they hadn't succeeded?" Adam wondered. "Would I be here today? Would that vision Lucius showed me become a reality?"

Adam shook his head. What's done is done. All he had to do now was to rise to the top and prevent the past from repeating itself.

A wry smile spread across his face. He realized that the same dangers lurked in this new life. The envious glances from fellow soldiers hadn't gone unnoticed.

"Time to wrap up my mission," Adam decided. "I've lingered too long. The Dark Forest awaits."

With renewed urgency, Adam quickened his pace. He would gather his thoughts, finalize his plans, and return to the shadows. The darkness was where he belonged.

As he entered his quarters, he really began to wish there was a way to contact Grimp.

"Ding!

There is a way for Host to summon his subordinates." The system spoke.

"Wait! What!? Seriously!?" Adam was surprised, but thinking of the possibilities, he became overjoyed. If he could summon his army anywhere and anytime, didn't that mean he could summon them right here!? And take down the Kingdom from within!?

Adam was still thinking of several ways to win when the system poured ice on his grandiose plans.

"Ding!

Host must understand it is only an apparition of the specific individual, and not the physical form." The system spoke.

Adam sighed. "Alright, fine. I knew it was too good to be true anyway. Alright. Summon Grimp."

Grimp's familiar face greeted him. Grimp's eyes went wide whem he saw Adam.

"My lord! What is this magic!" He asked Adam in shock. Adam's eyes narrowed, his mind already focused on the challenges ahead.

"Grimp, it's time to prepare my departure, and attack." Adam said, his voice low and resolute. "I'll heading back to the Dark Forest."

Grimp's eyes sparkled with understanding. "Yes, my lord. We'll be ready."

They began to discuss their plan of attack and Adam's role to play.

The next day, Adam decided to meet General Adolph. He headed to the General's office, requested a meeting, and was granted permission.

Upon entering, Adam saluted the General.

"What brings you to my office, captain Adam." General Adolph questioned.

"Sir, I have concerns about the planned attack on the Dark Forest." Adam answered.

General Adolph raised an eyebrow. "Go on."

Adam continued, "With all due respect, sir, do you think delaying the attack is wise? The longer we prepare, the stronger Lord Eryndor becomes. Every day gives him an advantage."

The General stroked his chin thoughtfully. "I see your point, Adam. But we can't rush into battle unprepared."

"I understand, sir," Adam replied. "But consider the risks of waiting. Eryndor's power grows daily. We should strike before he becomes unstoppable."

The General nodded. "Thank you, Adam. Your input is valuable. I'll consider your words."

Adam saluted. "Thank you, sir."

As Adam left the office, he felt optimistic. He knew the kingdom would soon launch an attack, and as a valuable asset, they would seek his expertise. This would give him access to their battle plans, allowing him to prepare his own strategy.

Adam smiled to himself. "Soon, I'll know their plans. And when the time is right, I'll be ready."

He walked away, lost in thought, anticipating the kingdom's next move.

General Adolph arrived at the palace, seeking an urgent audience with the King. He was swiftly ushered into the throne room.

"Your Majesty," General Adolph began, "I request a general meeting with the military, Church, and nobles. We must act swiftly against Eryndor or risk losing the war."

The King's expression turned serious. "I agree, General. But you previously advised waiting a year before attacking. What changed your mind?"

General Adolph hesitated before responding, "A valuable soldier brought a crucial perspective to my attention. Adam Hill, the adventurer you invited, made me realize the folly of delaying our attack."

The King's eyebrows rose. "Adam Hill? Yes, that adventurer who defeated the pack of thunderwolves all alone. His skills are impressive. Tell me, General, what did he say?"

"Adam pointed out that the longer we prepare, the stronger Eryndor becomes. Every day gives him an advantage. I believe we should reconsider our strategy and act sooner rather than later."

The King nodded thoughtfully. "Summon the council. We will discuss this further. I want Adam Hill present at the meeting."

General Adolph bowed. "As you wish, Your Majesty."

The King's eyes narrowed. "I sense there's more to Adam Hill than meets the eye. Find out everything you can about him, General. I want to know his true loyalties."

General Adolph's expression turned curious. "Consider it done, Your Majesty."

Little did they know, Adam's words had set in motion a chain of events that would change the course of the war.. and his own destiny.. forever.
