Adam trailed the General out of the throne room. Through the castle's corridors, they walked. Their destination. the barracks, nearby. "New recruits train here," General Adolph explained. As they walked, Adam noticed the General's stern face. Had softened, ever so slightly. They entered the barracks. Noise filled the air. Soldiers moved swiftly. General Adolph led Adam to a small office. "Recruitment Officer," a sign read. A bespectacled officer looked up. "General Adolph, sir!" "Adam Hill, our new recruit," General Adolph said. The officer nodded. "Welcome, Adam." He grabbed a quill and parchment. "Name?" "Adam Hill," Adam replied. "Age?" "Thirty-five." "Occupation?" "Adventurer." The officer scribbled swiftly. "Rank?" General Adolph intervened. "Adam will start as a cadet, like everyone else." The officer nodded. "Uniform size?" Adam provided his measurements. The officer handed Adam a bundle. "Your uniform, Lieutenant." Adam took the bundle. "Thank you, sir." General Adolph turned to Adam. "Join the other new recruits. Training begins today." Adam nodded. "Yes, sir." General Adolph's expression turned serious. "Remember, Adam. Discipline and loyalty are key to success." Adam saluted. "I won't forget, sir." General Adolph nodded. "Dismissed, cadet." "No, sir! That's not true. I'm not a monster." Captain Vodka's eyes narrowed. "We'll see about that. Report to my office." Adam nodded. "Yes, sir." But inside, he was so angry What was Captain Vodka's problem? Why accuse him of such a heinous act? Adam's thoughts swirled. As he walked away, a hand on his shoulder. Marcus, his fellow recruit. "Hey, Adam. What happened?" Adam shook his head. "Captain Vodka's got it in for me." Marcus frowned. "Be careful. Something's off." Adam nodded. "I will." Adam entered Captain Vodka's office. "Sir," Adam said, saluting. Captain Vodka gestured. "Sit, Adam Hill." Adam obeyed. "Tell me, Adam," Captain Vodka began. "How did you train? Where are you from?" Adam hesitated. "I trained as an adventurer, sir.. In various lands." Captain Vodka scowled. "Adventurers. Unruly bunch. No discipline. No loyalty. I despise your lot." Adam remained silent. Captain Vodka leaned forward. "Why join the army?" Adam's voice firm. "To serve the kingdom, sir." Captain Vodka sneered. "I don't believe you." "Quit the army, Adam, before it's too late for you. You may really not like what's going to happen." Adam's eyes narrowed. "I won't, sir." Captain Vodka's face reddened. "Fine. Your choice." Adam saluted. "Dismissed, cadet." Adam exited. Just outside, General Adolph awaited. "Adam Hill. Captain Vodka's conversation with you if you please." Adam recounted, he had an idea that the General wasn't making a request, but an order. General Adolph's expression darkened. "I'll see Captain Vodka dismissed and you'll take his position." Adam's eyes widened. "Sir?" General Adolph nodded. "Your skills are wasted under Captain Vodka's command. I'll inform you soon." Adam saluted. "Yes, sir." General Adolph departed, leaving Adam stunned.
