Seeing his daughter cry like that broke something deep inside Daniel.

He moved closer to the bed, his heart aching with every sob that escaped her lips. Gently, he raised his hand and wiped away her tears, one by one, as though each tear carried a piece of her pain.

“Hey… hey,” he whispered softly. “Don’t cry anymore, okay? Everything is going to be fine now.”

Mia tried to stop crying, but her lips trembled uncontrollably.

Daniel leaned forward and kissed her forehead tenderly, holding it there for a few seconds as if drawing strength from her warmth.

“Thank you,” he said quietly, his voice thick with emotion. “Thank you for choosing me, sweetheart.”

He pulled back slightly and looked into her eyes, his own already glassy.

“If you had chosen your mother today,” he continued honestly, “I don’t even know what I would have done. I think… I think I would have completely lost myself.”

Mia’s tears slowed.

Daniel held her hands tightly, as if afraid she might disappear. “I promise you someth

  • She chose her father

“Come on, sweetheart,” her mother said gently, her fingers still wrapped around Mia’s small hand. Her voice softened, carrying the familiar tone she used whenever she wanted something badly. “This is what you’ve always wanted, right? A comfortable life. Your uncle Richard and I will provide everything for you. The best clothes, the best food, the best schools. You won’t ever lack anything.”Mia didn’t answer immediately. She slowly lifted her eyes from her mother’s face and looked toward her father.Daniel stood a few steps away, silent, his hands clenched at his sides. He wasn’t speaking, wasn’t interrupting, but his eyes said everything his mouth could not. They were fixed on Mia, filled with fear, hope, and a quiet, desperate plea. Please… say no.Mia felt it. She felt the weight of both of them pressing down on her small chest. Her mother’s hand was warm and firm, holding her tightly as if afraid she might slip away. Her father’s gaze was heavy, trembling with restraint,

  • Telling her the truth about their divorce

“Dad…”Mia’s voice came again, softer this time, but heavier. Her small hands clutched the bedsheet as she looked up at Daniel with eyes far too serious for a child her age. “What do you mean you and mom are no longer together?”The question hung in the air, sharp and unforgiving.Daniel felt his throat tighten. He opened his mouth, then closed it again. Words crowded his mind, but none of them felt right. How could he explain something so broken to someone so innocent? How could he tell his daughter that the world she believed in had already fallen apart long before she noticed the cracks? His ex-wife shifted uncomfortably beside the bed. She could see the confusion growing in Mia’s eyes, the fear slowly replacing innocence. For a moment, guilt flashed across her face. She leaned forward, about to speak.“Mia, sweetheart—”Before another word could be said, the door to the ward opened. The doctor walked in, clipboard in hand, his calm presence cutting through the tension like

  • His ex-wife visits with her new man

It was the middle of the afternoon when Daniel’s ex-wife arrived at the hospital, Richard beside her. The world outside was bright and warm, but inside, her mind was clouded with worry. She moved with quiet determination, her heels clicking softly against the polished floor as she approached the reception desk. She had rehearsed this moment a hundred times in her head, trying to anticipate every possible scenario, every question the staff might ask.“Excuse me,” she said politely, her voice calm but edged with urgency. “Could you please tell me which ward my daughter is in?”The receptionist looked up, her fingers flying across the keyboard. “Yes, ma’am. She’s in Room 402, third floor. Take the elevator on your left. Nurses will assist you if needed.”“Thank you so much,” she replied, offering a brief smile. Richard gave her a reassuring nod, carrying a small bag she had packed with dresses and a few personal items for Mia. Even in his casual confidence, she could see the way he

  • Taking her out of the hospital room

After breakfast, the room felt warmer, calmer, like the walls themselves had finally relaxed.Daniel watched as Mia licked the last bit of syrup from her lips, her eyes bright, her cheeks no longer as pale as they had been days ago. Seeing her smile like that did something to his chest. It loosened the tight knot that had lived there since the night everything fell apart.“Did you enjoy it?” he asked softly.Mia nodded eagerly. “It was really good, Dad. Better than the hospital food.”He chuckled. “I figured.”He reached for the small tray beside her bed and picked up the medicine cup the nurse had left earlier. The liquid inside was clear, harmless-looking, but to him it represented everything standing between his daughter and danger.“Okay,” he said gently. “Time for your medicine.”Mia made a tiny face but didn’t complain. She opened her mouth obediently, took the cup, and drank it slowly. Daniel handed her some water afterward and wiped her lips with a tissue.“There,” he sai

  • Buying her favorite Milkshake

Morning came softly.Daniel woke up in the chair beside Mia’s hospital bed, his neck stiff and his body heavy from sleeping in the same position all night. For a moment, he didn’t move. He just sat there, listening to the quiet rhythm of the machines and watching his daughter sleep.Mia was still fast asleep. Her lashes rested gently on her cheeks, her breathing slow and steady. The pale light from the window painted her face in calm colors, and seeing her like this filled Daniel’s heart with a warmth he couldn’t describe. She looked peaceful. Safe. That alone made everything worth it.Daniel carefully stood up so he wouldn’t wake her. He stretched slightly and glanced around the room. Everything felt different now. The fear that once lived permanently in his chest had eased. The nightmare of not being able to afford her treatment was behind him. He had saved her life. He had bought a home for them. A real home.A mansion. His thoughts drifted briefly to the house he had jus
