Chapter Three
The call came as Adrian stepped out of the bank. For a moment, the city felt unfamiliar to Adrian. Not because anything had changed, but because he had. The black card rested in his pocket, heavier than its weight suggested. It was not the card itself that altered the air around him. It was what it represented. Access. Finality. A quiet end to certain conversations. His phone vibrated bringing him from his head into reality, he checked the screen. Lina. He paused before answering. Lina had been there when no one else was. She never laughed and mocked him when the other student did. Never looked away when he spoke rather when people whispered about him, she shut them down without drama, without expecting gratitude. She did not see him as poor or useful or temporary. She saw him as her true friend Adrian answered. “You answered atlast I’ve called you countless times.” Adrian eyes widened and he scrolled through his phobe to find several messages and calls, his phone had been on silent till now so he didn’t notice. “You are coming, right,” Lina said, excitement bubbling through her voice. “It is just a small birthday thing. Dinner. Nothing crazy.” “I will be there,” Adrian replied trying to mask the fact that he forgot her birthday. After the call ended, he stood still for a moment. He felt bad and thought about the best birthday gift to make up for that. He thought about the times Lina had shared her food with him when his allowance ran dry. The way she pretended it was nothing. The way she had never once asked him for anything in return. A gift mattered. Not because of its price, but because of what it said. Adrian turned and headed toward the shopping district. The jewelry store sat on a wide corner, all glass and light, designed to intimidate before the door even opened. The kind of place where security watched reflections more than faces. Adrian stepped inside without hesitation. The air inside was cool. Restrained. Polished surfaces reflected back fragments of movement, never the whole. Before he could take two steps forward, laughter followed him in. He recognized it instantly it was the worst people he wouldn’t want to come across. It was Mira his ex and Jason. Adrian turned slightly his face scrunched up into a frown as he knew there were no way things will go well with them in the jewellery shop. Jason walked in with Mira beside him, her hand looped through his arm. She leaned into him comfortably, her body language claiming space that was not hers. Jason spotted Adrian at the same time and smiled. Not surprised. Amused. He tightened his arm around Mira and kissed her temple. “Well,” Jason said lightly. “This is unexpected.” Mira’s eyes flicked over Adrian. No embarrassment. No guilt. Just assessment. The salesgirl at the counter noticed them immediately. Besides the way they were dressed Jason family reputation proceeded him and his numerous appearance on the television screen. Her posture straightened. Her smile sharpened. She hurried toward Jason, heels clicking eagerly. “Welcome,I'm Especia and I will be attending toyou.” she said brightly. “We just received a new collection. Please come this way. Jewellery designers bag, the most expensive necklace from house Cartier.” “Very Good I want to buy one for my girlfriend.” the sales girl pointed towards the design in a special display glass, Mira's gaze followed her heart melting into liquid while giving the necklace a lustful gaze. “Baby, I want that necklace it fits my complexion perfectly.” She did not acknowledge Adrian at all. Jason glanced back deliberately, eyes flicking to Adrian as he followed the salesgirl. Mira did not bother hiding her satisfaction. Adrian felt irritation rise slowly. Not anger. Something colder. He had arrived first. That should not have mattered. But it did. A few moments passed before another salesgirl approached him. She was younger. Quieter. Her smile hesitant. “Hello,” she said softly. “Is there anything I can help you with.” Her eyes did not judge him. They did not skim his clothes or search for worth. “I am looking for a birthday gift,” Adrian replied. She nodded quickly. “Of course. Do you have something specific in mind.” Adrian scanned the displays. At the same time, Jason’s voice rose from across the room. “That one,” Jason said, pointing. “The necklace. The one with the emerald cut.” Adrian’s gaze followed instinctively. It was the same piece that had caught his eye. Simple. Elegant. Understated. He lifted his hand. “That one.” The salesgirl assisting Jason laughed. Her laugh was loud. “Oh,” she said, glancing between them. “That piece is 2.8 million dollars. It's the limited edition Cartier sapphire and diamond necklace. It's the 1950s swag design with34.91 carats of sapphires (Kashmir origin, unheated) and 40.09 carats of diamonds worth 2.8 million dollars.” She smiled at Jason. Then turned to Adrian. “You should probably look at something else,” she added lightly. “This is not really your range.” Jason chuckled. Mira joined in. “Adrian,” she said mockingly. “Do you even know how much that costs. 2.8 million dollars is a money you can't dream of owning your entire life.” He said nothing. If it were in the past He would have felt bad for her mockery but he's no longer the old Adrian, a small smile crept on his face. The salesgirl assisting Jason tilted her head toward the younger one beside Adrian. “You need to learn how to choose clients,” she said. “Do you really think you will meet your sales target entertaining someone like him.” The younger girl flushed. “I am just doing my job.” Jason smirked. “You are wasting your time.” Mira laughed again. “Seriously. Where would he even get that kind of money.” Adrian felt the moment stretch. Eyes shifted subtly. Other staff slowed their movements. This was familiar territory. But this time, he did not step back. He reached into his pocket calmly and placed the black card on the counter. The sound it made was soft. But it carried power, straight from the bank. A limited card buying a limited jewellery. “Will this cover it,” Adrian asked evenly. “Wrap it. I am in a hurry.” The laughter died instantly. The salesgirl who had mocked him froze mid smile. Jason’s expression stiffened. Mira’s eyes dropped to the card. Then widened. The younger salesgirl stared at it, then at Adrian, her mouth slightly open. She was excited to have made her first sale but on the limited edition Cartier jewellery, she'd never imagined it. Her sales commission is going to be massive, the excitement radiating from her body as she quickly tends to Adrian. “Sir,” he said carefully. “We will take care of that for you. But the gift wrapping will take roughly an hour because it's a high value piece” Adrian checked his time, he was supposed to be at Lina's birthday party any moment from now. Adrian did not look at Jason. He did not look at Mira. He watched as the necklace was placed into a velvet box. “Forget it, just don't do any gift wrapping,” he added. “ include a note.” “Yes, sir,” the manager said quickly. Jason cleared his throat. “This is a misunderstanding. And besides, the sales girl tended to us first. What will a toy for a card possibly purchase? You can keep on pretending to be wealthy for all you want people like you can only aspire.” Adrian turned to him then. His gaze was calm. “Is it,” Adrian asked. Jason said nothing. Mira looked away. Adrian picked up the wrapped box when it was handed to him. “Charge everything,” he said. “Including whatever they were planning to buy. Consider it a tip for taking Mira off my hands. Clearly, you need the financial help more than I do if you're struggling with the price of a single necklace."Latest Chapter

Chapter TwelveDean Halloway sat behind his massive dark oak desk, flanked by the Board of Directors. Opposite them sat Erica, her eyes red, and Robert Leonardo, looking disheveled but desperate. When Adrian walked in, still wearing his worn sweater, the Dean didn’t bother to look up."Sit down, Vale," Halloway barked. "We’ve reviewed the report. Stolen cards, fraud, and what happened at the Vista Hotel. Mr. Leonardo here has provided all the evidence we need. You’re nothing but a parasite, Adrian."Adrian sat down and leaned back calmly. His calmness clearly annoyed the Dean.“Where is the evidence?” Adrian said. “I’d like to see it.”Robert Leonardo slammed his fist on the desk. "You destroyed my family’s credit! You’re lucky we don’t call the police right now.""My father says people like you are a disease," Erica added with pure hatred. "Effective immediately, you are expelled."The Dean sighed, sliding the expulsion papers forward. "Sign these and vacate the campus by 1:00 PM."

Chapter ElevenThe university cafeteria was buzzing. The news of the Leonardo family’s overnight bankruptcy had hit the campus like a nuclear strike. Lukas Leonardo hadn't shown up for classes, and the rumor was spreading everywhere.Adrian sat at his usual corner table, a plastic bowl of three-dollar instant noodles in front of him. To the students looking, he was still the scholarship bum they had mocked for years.“Look at him,” a sharp, familiar voice rang out.Jason walked through the cafeteria, his chest puffed out. With Lukas gone, Jason was now the undisputed king of the school. Mira followed a few steps behind him, her face pale and her eyes red-rimmed. She kept staring at Adrian, her mind replaying the silhouette in the Vista elevator.Jason slammed his hand onto Adrian’s table, rattling the plastic bowl.“I heard about last night, Adrian,” Jason sneered, leaning in so close Adrian could smell his expensive cologne. “Lukas got sloppy. He offended some mysterious tycoon and l

Chapter TenThe Skyline Lounge was the crown jewel of the Vista Hotel. It sat on the fiftieth floor, and it featured floor-to-ceiling glass walls that made the city lights look like fallen stars. Soft jazz played, and the air smelled of expensive perfume and aged bourbon.Lukas sat at the biggest table. He had pushed three tables together. Mira and many students sat around him. Everyone was happy because they were drinking for free."Another round of 1996 Dom Pérignon!" Lukas shouted, waving a hand at a passing waiter. "And bring out the Beluga caviar. Tonight, we celebrate like kings!"Mira sat beside him, but she looked distracted. Her eyes kept drifting toward the private elevator bank. Every time the gold doors chimed, she flinched, hoping—and fearing—she would see Adrian Vale."Lukas, maybe we should slow down," Mira whispered, leaning in. "That's the fourth bottle. Each one is five thousand dollars."Lukas laughed, his face flushed red from the alcohol. "Don't be a buzzkill, Mir

Chapter NineThe taxi stopped in front of the Vista Hotel. Luxury supercars lined the entrance, their engines humming softly under the brilliant golden light.Adrian stepped out, his worn sneakers hitting the pristine pavement. He gripped his phone tightly as the $50 million notification was still burning in his mind like a hot coal.He hadn't walked five feet before a hand blocked his path.“Where do you think you're going? Deliveries are at the back, kid," the doorman said. His white-gloved hand remained held out like a wall. He didn't even look Adrian in the eye, he was too busy opening a door for a man in a tuxedo."I'm not a delivery driver," Adrian said, his voice calmer than he expected. "I’m here to see Chase Goodman."The doorman finally looked at him and sneered. "The General Manager? You think a man who manages the portfolios of oil tycoons has time to meet a student in a thrift-store jacket? Get moving before I call security."“I have a meeting with him. At least let him k

Chapter Eight “You don’t need to prove anything,” Lina said quickly, her voice sharp. “This is my birthday. I didn’t invite you here to start trouble.” Lucas smiled lazily. “Relax. I’m just asking. If it’s real, there’s nothing to hide. Adrian should be ashamed to buy fake things, you're from a prestigious family and stuff like this ruins your reputation. Shouldn't you be thanking me for opening your eyes.” Adrian looked at the necklace again. He had spent 2.5 million and all it earned him was ridicule, he had always prayed to be rich but now he's rich he didn't feel much different rather he was ridiculed and considered a moron. Thinking about it alone made him feel drowsy, he could prove it. Easily. But that wasn’t the point. The point was that Lucas wanted a show. Wanted him to perform. Wanted him to scramble, to overexplain, to beg credibility. Adrian pushed his chair back without saying much. Erica’s sneer was practically permanent. "Show us the evidence, Adrian. Or are

Chapter Seven The Irritation on Lina's features was immediate as she gave a one clear look at Lukas. She shot Lukas a sharp look, her jaw tightening as his smirk widened, as if he had struck exactly where he intended. “What is the meaning of this, Lukas.” the dorm head finally spoke, his tone warning. “Do you have something against Adrian?” Lukas laughed, lifting his glass lazily. He was the kind of bully who found pleasure in the discomfort of others, who thrived on provoking reactions and pretending innocence afterward. “I’m just having fun,” he said, taking a slow sip of the wine. Wines were prohibited in high school since they were students that needed to study hard but exceptions were quietly made for events like birthdays for influential families and for people like Lukas rules bent around him easily since he was a bully and a disobedient student at that. After the heat dies down, Lina places the glass beside Adrian. And tapped him on the shoulder apologetically, Adrian c
