Ken stopped his motorcycle in front of a luxury apartment tower and glanced at the address on his phone.

“Big order… big tip,” he muttered quietly.

The number still didn’t feel real to him. Just this one delivery already exceeded his entire earnings from last night. If everything went smoothly, for the next few days he wouldn’t have to think about instant noodles anymore.

Ken slipped his phone into his pocket, a faint smile appearing as he imagined Lizzy’s happy face.

Earlier that afternoon, he had sent her a message, but there was still no reply.

He felt it was normal. Lizzy was often like that, sometimes she would just read his messages, disappear, then come back as if nothing had happened. Ken didn’t make a big deal out of it.

If the tip was really that big, maybe tonight he could take her to eat somewhere they had only ever passed by.

The elevator doors opened slowly and Ken stepped inside.

Eighteenth floor. Unit 1803.

He adjusted the strap of his bag on his shoulder, then pressed the doorbell, and the door opened almost instantly.

“Order—”

Ken’s sentence was cut off when he saw a familiar woman standing in front of him.

Her hair was styled in neat waves. Her makeup was sharp, different from the bare face he used to know. A thin, revealing nightgown wrapped around her body.

Ken froze for a split second.

“…Liz?”

His voice was barely audible.

The woman’s eyes widened briefly, then turned flat again. Her tone was cold.

“Oh, you’re the food delivery guy?”

Ken stared at her, trying to make sure this was real and not a mistake.

“This… is really you? What are you doing here?” He stepped forward halfway, his hand reflexively reaching to grab her wrist.

But Liz brushed him off without hesitation.

“Don’t touch me,” she said irritably. She held out her hand. “Where’s my order?”

From inside the apartment, a man’s voice sounded low, relaxed, and slightly hoarse.

“Babe, who is it?”

Ken’s chest felt like it was being pulled from the inside.

Ignoring his shock, Lizzy glanced slightly backward and replied in a sweet, slightly flirtatious tone, “Just the delivery guy. I’ll handle it.”

She looked back at Ken coldly, as if facing a stranger. At that point, Ken didn’t need any more explanation.

“Liz… why are you—”

“We’re already broken up,” Lizzy cut him off quickly. “I thought you understood.”

“I never agreed. We were never finished.”

Liz let out a short breath, as if tired. Her gaze dropped to the delivery jacket, the bag on his shoulder, and the worn-out shoes Ken was wearing. Her condescending look wasn’t hidden at all.

“I’m the one who’s done. I need a clear life, Ken. Not just empty promises. Now I have a boyfriend who can give me what you can’t.”

Ken gripped his bag strap tighter. His head lowered slightly; he felt inferior, but also stubborn.

“I can work harder, I can—”

“You can?” Liz cut in, raising an eyebrow. “Since when? You’ve been saying that for a long time.”

The man’s voice sounded again, this time closer.

“Lizzy, darling?”

This time Lizzy didn’t turn around. Her gaze stayed on Ken as she reminded him, “Don’t contact me again. If we meet again, act like strangers.”

She took the bag from Ken’s hand, then slipped some money into his palm.

Without looking at him again, Liz turned to close the door, but Ken stopped it, his hand reflexively grabbing her wrist.

“No, Liz.” His voice was low and restrained, sounding miserable. “I know you’re not someone who only cares about money or material things. Come back with me. Don’t be like this… please?”

“Are you crazy? Let go of me!”

Lizzy struggled to break free.

Their voices were loud enough to attract attention. Fast footsteps were heard from inside.

A man wearing a bathrobe appeared, his hair still half-wet. His gaze immediately fell on Ken’s hand gripping Lizzy, as if forcing her.

“Let her go.”

His tone was high, filled with anger.

But Ken didn’t move. Stubbornly, he kept holding Lizzy’s hand, repeatedly asking her to come back to him.

“I said let her go!”

The man stepped forward twice, then swung his leg and kicked Ken in the stomach without warning.

Ken’s body staggered backward, his breath knocked out. His back slammed into the corridor wall, and the delivery bag on his shoulder fell heavily to the floor.

He held his stomach, trying to breathe.

The man stood in front of the door, looking at him with disgust.

“Unbelievable. A delivery guy daring to touch someone else’s girl.”

Liz stood behind him, neither stepping forward nor helping, just watching indifferently.

Ken slowly straightened his body, his breathing still uneven.

His eyes returned to Liz before shifting back to the man, and he said, “She’s my girl. You’re the one in the wrong!”

There was a brief pause before the man’s gaze shifted to Liz, his eyebrow slightly raised.

“Liz,” he called, his tone subtly changing. “Who is this?”

For a split second, Liz looked hesitant, then her expression returned to normal.

“My ex-boyfriend,” she answered shortly. “The one I told you about.”

The man looked at Ken again, this time with even more contempt.

“Oh…” he let out a short laugh. “So this is that useless ex-boyfriend of yours. What a coincidence.”

Ken was still sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall. Before he could process everything further, his phone vibrated on the floor.Usually, the unknown number like this were either loan offers or customers who sent the wrong address. For some reason, this time he answered. The voice on the other end sounded calm and professional.“Good afternoon. Am I speaking with Mr. Ken?”Ken immediately sat up a little straighter.“Yes. Who is this?”“I’m Freya from the legal division of Aurora Logistics Group. We are contacting you regarding a change in the company’s shareholding structure.”Ken’s heart beat a little faster, but he kept listening seriously.“There are several documents you need to sign as part of the verification and authorization process.”Ken didn’t respond immediately. His gaze went blank for a moment, as if connecting the pieces that had just happened.“…so,” he said slowly, “this is about those shares?”“That’s correct, Mr. Ken. The glass flew past him and slammed hard against the wall, shattering into pieces. Some people screamed in shock, while Ken only paused for a split second. In his heart, he quietly let out a breath. If his reflexes had been just a little slower, or if his luck hadn’t been slightly higher than that of an average person, the glass would have already hit his head.He didn’t turn around or curse. He simply opened the door and said lightly, “A bad temper, Sir. Be careful, it can shorten your lifespan.”Then he left. His steps quickened slightly as he walked away from the room.Ken still valued his life.A few provocations were enough. If it went any further, he might truly die there, and the small bit of luck he had wouldn’t be enough to save him.…From inside the room, the sound of something being smashed was followed by a roar full of anger.Miles stood in the middle of the room, breathing heavily, his jaw tightening. His gaze shifted sharply toward Lizzy, cold, piercing, and full of pr

  • 09. A Line Crossed

Lizzy was the first to rise from her seat. Her face flushed, not just from embarrassment anymore, but also anger.“Ken, don’t be disrespectful!” her voice rose, sharp. “Know your place! Don’t make yourself even more embarrassing!”The room fell slightly silent. They glanced at Miles, waiting for his reaction, but he just stood there with an expression that was hard to read.On the other hand, instead of feeling offended or angry, Ken actually let out a soft chuckle. It wasn’t loud, but it shifted the atmosphere. He shook his head lightly, then looked at Lizzy calmly.“Embarrassing? The one who should feel embarrassed isn’t me.”His gaze shifted, sweeping across them one by one, before settling back on Lizzy.“The one who feels guilty is the one who should be embarrassed. I’m not wrong, and I’m not the one at fault, so why is it embarrassing? Besides, I’m not the one who wanted to come here.”The sentence sounded simple, but it clearly stung. Lizzy immediately fell silent, her face sti

  • 08. A Different Kind of Humiliation

One of the men stood up, walked over to Ken, then patted his shoulder lightly.“Hey, but I respect you,” he said quietly, but clearly enough. “You’ve got guts, showing up in front of your ex’s new boyfriend like this. If I were you, I’d have disappeared from the city already.”Ken didn’t respond. The man clicked his tongue, then stepped back.“Ah, whatever. Different level anyway.”Ken was being humiliated, but Lizzy also felt embarrassed. Unfortunately, the woman couldn’t do anything but let out a small laugh, even though there was a hint of awkwardness on her face. After a moment, her hand grasped Miles’ arm.“Sorry…” she whispered softly, her voice slightly coquettish. “I know I was wrong. No need to drag this out, okay…”Miles turned to her, one eyebrow slightly raised.“You’re apologizing now because you’re afraid I’ll make trouble with your ex?”“No. I don’t care what you want to do to him. I just don’t want you to be mad at me again.”Lizzy immediately shook her head. She moved
