“Isabella, are you all right?” one of the women in a silk gown asked when she saw her retreating toward the side door.

“I just need some air,” Isabella forced a smile, though her lips trembled. She didn’t wait for a reply. Her heels clicked against the floor as she slipped past the curtains and pushed open the glass door leading to the balcony.

The cool night air greeted her, against her flushed skin. She exhaled shakily, clutching her chest as though that would steady the wild pounding of her heart.

Out here, away from the crowd, the city lights sprawled endlessly below her. Towers stood proud, streets glimmered, and cars were flickering like fireflies, yet all she could see was her own reflection in the glass door, she has a pale face, wide eyes and her lips are trembling.

She gripped the balcony railing. Memories slammed into her unrelenting, one after another.

Her words, that's indeed poisonous. And her laughing that's cutting.

Some whispered, smirked. and stared at her with judgment. “Did you see them during the presentation yesterday?” a woman at the reception desk said quietly. “He looked at her like he still cares,” another replied. “Please. She is his ex-wife. She knows how to get him to notice her.” Isabella held the files in her hands tightly. She kept walking. She did not stop or react. Her back was straight. Her face was calm, even though inside, she felt tired, but she refused to show it. More quiet voices followed. “She thinks she can come back and get him again.” “She probably acts sad in front of him on purpose!" “I would do the same if it would make him notice me.” Isabella reached her desk. • Chapter 42: The Anonymous Savior

Isabella sat alone in the conference room long after the executives had left. The projector screen still showed the last slide of her presentation. It was complete and organized. Her heartbeat was fast, but not because of excitement, she was confused. How did I finish everything in time? Her hands rested above her laptop keyboard as she looked at the rows of data she had shown earlier. These were the same data files that were missing last night. Every document, every chart, every calculation had been deleted. She remembered staring at the empty screen at 2:00 a.m., crying and shaking because she thought she could not recover the work. Then everything appeared again. A new folder showed up on her desktop. She did not create it. All her files were inside. The file names were typed differently from how she usually named them. The calculations were restored. She checked every file until morning. Everything was accurate. Someone had helped her. But who did it? She closed her ey
