The office was quiet except for the sound of keyboards and the air conditioner. It was already past 1 a.m. Isabella Mortaine had fallen asleep at her desk with her head resting on her folded arms. Her breathing was slow and steady. She was very tired.

The monitor light stayed on her face. Papers were spread around the desk, including schedules, supplier contracts, and logistic plans. Her pen had slipped from her hand and was lying near the edge of the table.

The elevator doors opened.

Cayden stepped out.

He did not expect anyone to still be working. He had only returned to get a folder he left in his office. As he walked through the work area, he noticed one desk light still turned on.

It was Isabella.

She was asleep. Her arms were on the desk. She did not have a blanket or pillow. She looked like she had worked until her body could not continue.

Cayden looked at her quietly.

He did not speak. He did not change his expression. He only stared at her for a few seconds.

Then he took off

Isabella sat alone in the conference room long after the executives had left. The projector screen still showed the last slide of her presentation. It was complete and organized. Her heartbeat was fast, but not because of excitement, she was confused. How did I finish everything in time? Her hands rested above her laptop keyboard as she looked at the rows of data she had shown earlier. These were the same data files that were missing last night. Every document, every chart, every calculation had been deleted. She remembered staring at the empty screen at 2:00 a.m., crying and shaking because she thought she could not recover the work. Then everything appeared again. A new folder showed up on her desktop. She did not create it. All her files were inside. The file names were typed differently from how she usually named them. The calculations were restored. She checked every file until morning. Everything was accurate. Someone had helped her. But who did it? She closed her ey

Isabella Mortaine sat at her desk, staring at her computer screen where the cursor blinked over an empty folder. Her pulse grew louder in her ears when she realized that every file she had spent weeks working on was gone. The entire project folder was empty. Her fingers trembled as she clicked through the backup drive. It showed the same thing—corrupted files. The drive refused to open properly. She checked every folder, every version she had saved. Nothing could be recovered.“Looking for something, Mortaine?” Sheila leaned against the cubicle wall with a faint smirk. “Maybe your magic files just disappeared on their own.”Isabella swallowed hard. “Someone deleted everything.”Sheila smirk deepened. “Maybe if you still had your ‘connections,’ you’d know how to get them back.” A few colleagues behind her let out quiet laughs.Isabella did not respond. She turned off the monitor, gathered her notes, and left her desk. The project was due at nine in the morning. It was already past mid

“Come in.”Cayden’s voice was flat and firm. Isabella opened the door slowly and walked inside, holding a folder tightly in her hands. The door closed behind her.Cayden stood near the window with his back turned to her. His posture was stiff. The room was quiet.“You asked for me, sir?” Isabella said in a low voice. He turned to face her. His eyes were serious and distant. “Sit.”She sat on the chair across from his desk. Her hands were cold. Her chest felt tight.Cayden walked toward her with a thin folder in his hand. He placed it on the desk. “Explain this.”Isabella frowned slightly. “What is it?”“Internal financial reports. Confidential,” Cayden said. “And this morning, The Navarro Group somehow received copies. You were one of the few people who had access.”Isabella shook her head. “That’s not possible. I didn’t—”“Didn’t you?” Cayden interrupted. She looked at him in disbelief. “Cayden, I would never—”“Do not say my name like we are close,” he said sharply. “Here, I am your

It was raining outside Cayden's Corporation building. The sky was gray, and the sound of rain could be heard faintly through the office windows. Inside Cayden's office, the lights were on, and he was reading reports in silence.By morning, news started spreading across the city. Mr. Zhao, who used to be an influential businessman and had once been a suitor of Isabella, had formed an alliance with Mr. Han, a known corrupt investor. Their goal was clear. They wanted to damage Cayden’s company and reputation. On the twentieth floor, Isabella Mortaine was typing on her computer. She did not know that people had started using her name in the rumors.Near the pantry, two employees were talking quietly.“Did you hear? Mr. Zhao is back,” one woman said.Another replied, “I heard. People say Isabella is helping him.”A third person joined in. “She was close to him before. Maybe she is giving him information from inside the company.”Someone else added, “Or maybe she was placed here on purpose

“Ms. Mortaine, come in.” Isabella entered the office while holding her small notebook and pen tightly. The senior manager, Ms. Liza Calderon, continued typing on her computer and did not look up immediately.“You wanted to see me, ma’am?” Isabella asked.Liza finally raised her eyes and said, “Yes. Sit down.” She pointed to the chair with a short movement of her hand. “I have a project for you.”Isabella sat down and tried to control the discomfort that she felt in her stomach. “Of course. What kind of project, ma’am?”Liza’s lips curved slightly. “You will prepare a full logistics proposal for the trade summit that will take place next month. The event will involve more than three hundred participants, both local and international. You are responsible for the entire process, including venue coordination, supplier negotiations, budget reconciliation, and the preparation of the schedule draft.”Isabella’s eyes widened a little. “Just me, ma’am?”Liza nodded slowly. “Yes.
