Rhys had seen Lexi do a lot of things. He had never seen her do this.

She actually took the money!

Just then, the woman from his previous life stared out at him through Lexi’s face. The same cold, efficient woman who had watched him freeze and called it convenient.

Only this time, the one she had sacrificed wasn’t her husband. It was her own son.

That night, Rhys drank.

Alone. Heavily.

Before he finished, he carried one glass out onto the lawn and tipped it slowly into the grass.

For Chris.

“Rest well, kid. You deserved better than this.”

Then the sound drifted across the street as laughter and clinking glasses filled the air.

A cheer erupted, loud and shameless.

It was coming from the Stowe house.

Rhys frowned deeply.

What a family of animals!

A child was dead, and they were celebrating.

He stared at the lit windows, and the last trace of hesitation in him quietly gave way.

“There’s no mercy to be found for people like you.

Not in this life. And not in the next.” He closed his windows shut and went to sleep.

And as for Lexi, she stayed in her room for two full days.

On the third morning, she finally came out, drained, disheveled and exhausted.

Henry was on her in seconds.

“Lexi! What do you want to eat? Anything. Just say it. I’ll go get it.”

“Yeah,” Michael added, rubbing his hands. “Let Henry fetch whatever you like. You have done really well.”

The change in them was almost obscene.

Three days ago, she’d been a stray dog on the curb. Now she was royalty.

All because of a million dollars in compensation. Even after paying Rhys his four hundred and ten thousand, she’d have nearly six hundred thousand left.

Lexi didn’t even look at them.

She walked straight into the bathroom.

“Fuck,” Henry muttered. “For two days I’ve been kissing her ass, and she hasn’t given me one decent look.”

Michael smacked the back of his head. “Watch your fucking mouth. That’s your sister.”

Then, lowering his voice, he said.

“Think. We kicked her out. We said we were cutting ties. Now we’re waving her back in because she has cash. Of course she’s angry. Be patient. Keep her happy. She will come around.”

He leaned closer.

“Unless you’d like to start earning your own pocket money.”

Henry went pale. “Yeah, Fine. Whatever.”

He scoffed and walked away.

In the bathroom, Lexi turned the shower to cold and stepped under it.

The water hit her skin like needles.

Her face slowly hardened.

Everyone thought Chris had died because Curry’s wife lost control.

Did they really believe that?

Lexi had made the call herself.

She had dialed the woman that morning and chosen every word like a blade. She had mocked her. Called her barren. Empty. A husk of a woman, with a husband who needed another to give him a son.

She had said it again and again, patient and sweet, until the voice on the other end shook with fury.

And that wasn’t all.

Before taking Chris to the hospital, Lexi had shown him a photograph of Curry’s wife. She had crouched beside him, kissed his forehead, and whispered,

“If you see her, call her barren. Say it loud. Mommy will be so proud of you.”

She had taught him the word.

That was why the confrontation had exploded so quickly.

That was why the woman had finally snapped.

“Curry,” Lexi whispered through her teeth, water pouring down her face. “You betrayed me first.”

A few tears slid down her cheeks.

“He was still my son.”

For a few seconds, her shoulders shook. Something real tore inside her. Something she didn’t have a name for. She let it sweep over her and settle.

Then it passed.

A smile crept over her lips.

“Now Chris is gone, There’s nothing between Rhys and me anymore.”

All she had to do was win him back. She could promise him children of his own, a proper family, a new beginning.

He had always been soft. Of course he would take her back.

“Four hundred million dollars.” She breathed through her teeth.

There was no way she was giving up that kind of money.

No way!

The water kept running. Behind the bathroom door, Henry and Michael were still arguing over what to buy her for lunch.

And across the street, in a house with the lights turned low, Rhys sat at a window, watching the glow in the Stowe house, and slowly, deliberately, planning their ruin.

Rhys smiled. He could tell what they had in mind. And like the cunning he was, he was prepared ahead. His dimensional gate was already open.He pretended to look down and lowered the flashlight toward the floor.“Now!”Mason was the first to charge.“Die!” he roared, signaling the others to strike together.Victor Grant and the other four saw Mason rush forward, bellowed, and surged at Rhys. one after another, they vanished, Without a sound.Rhys checked the dimensional space with his mind. Six lifelike corpses lay inside. Their faces were frozen in fierce, twisted grimaces, a trace of fear still visible in their eyes.Interesting. That meant people didn’t die instantly when they entered. There was a process, however brief.Mason and his men had been plotting against him all along. Was he supposed to spare them? They had served their purpose. Now that they’d done what he wanted, there was no reason to leave them alive.Rhys smiled and, with a thought, dumped all six bodies out of t

Old Lee crouched at the door of apartment 302 and went to work.He really was a professional. It took him half a minute. He hadn’t been able to open Rhys’s lock because Rhys had spent eighty million on reinforcing the mansion. The requirement had been simple: secure, and resistant to attack. If an ordinary locksmith could have cracked it in a few minutes, Rhys would have hunted James Svard down and killed him, hailstorm or not.The door clicked open. The six men rushed inside.“Who’s there?” Michael called out.“Ah! What do you want?” Britt screamed as the men pinned Michael to the ground.“It’s Fourth Mason!” Michael called out. Lexi and Henry had rushed down now to see what’s happening.“Old Lee, the locksmith!” Lexi gasped as the man grabbed her hair.“Hey! Hands off her!” A punch kicked Henry to the ground. The four Stowes cried out in shock. Their voices rose, and then it was horror for them. The men, over and over again, raped them till they all bled.Rhys smiled and turned aw

The six men waited out the evening in Mason’s living room, passing a single bottle of cheap liquor between themselves. They didn’t eat dinner. They just endured the hunger. Mason wasn’t about to share his own stash, and Old Lee and the other four hadn’t brought any. They could stand it for a few more hours. Once Rhys was dead, they could eat as much as they wanted.Through the half-open door of the back room, Megan could be seen sitting on the edge of a mattress, her arms wrapped around her knees. She stared at the wall without blinking, her face as blank as paper.Nobody looked at her.Mason glanced over once, grunted, and pulled the door shut. He didn’t lock it. He wasn’t worried about her running. Where would she go? And besides, in a few hours, he would own a mansion with heat and light, and she would belong to that, too. They waited and waited. Then midnight came.“It’s time. Move out,” Mason said. The six men crept down to the underground garage. Flashlight beams jittered ove

Sara left.Rhys worried she’d struggle to stay alone in that apartment, with the blood and the silence. So he introduced her to Jenna Dawson. Jenna was delighted. Living alone made her feel unsafe, too.He gave them both advice. Keep your doors locked. Don’t open them for anyone. Check carefully before you step outside. The last point was unlikely to matter, though, because the weather was getting worse. The city had never seen temperatures below minus ten, and people’s winter clothes weren’t built for it. A short walk might be bearable. Staying out was another story. And that was only minus ten or fifteen. At minus forty or fifty, the air could freeze the lungs and damage the organs. Even twenty minutes outside might be fatal. They just had to be careful.Rhys wasn’t offering this help out of the goodness of his heart. Sara was beautiful. She had a good figure.“After killing Paul in public, I’ll probably become something like a demon king in this neighborhood.”He thought. The dow

Whoosh! The flashlight beam speared straight into Paul’s eyes.He threw up a hand to cover them. It didn’t help. He stumbled backward until his spine thudded against the wall of the passage. The light shifted. Rhys stepped out through the doorway, tall and calm, his shadow rolling across the concrete like a wave.“You’re asking for a lot,” he said coldly.“Rhys! I’ll kill you!”Paul roared and swung the knife. In truth, he couldn’t see where Rhys was. He just hacked toward the light, blinded and swollen with rage.Rhys sneered and kicked him.Paul couldn’t see his opponent. Rhys could see him perfectly. The kick landed squarely in Paul’s stomach, folding him in half and flinging him backward out of the passage. He dropped onto his backside in the garage.Clang! The kitchen knife skidded across the floor.Rhys walked over, picked it up, and stepped toward him. • Chapter 45: The audience

Paul had burst into the underground garage with a kitchen knife in his fist.He looked like a man ready to kill. Everyone he passed hurried out of his path.“What’s going on?”“Is he going to fight someone to the death?”“Did somebody steal his family’s food?”At a time like this, what could be worse than having your food and water stolen?Paul was too furious to notice any of it. He marched straight toward Rhys’s mansion. He had seen Sara walk through that door with his own eyes. What else was there to understand?“That bitch sold me out for food!”The thought made him angrier. His hand shook around the handle. He plunged into the long, black passage. His phone battery was dead, so he had no light. In his rage, he kept charging forward through the dark, slammed into walls, cursing even louder. At last, he found the steel door and started hammering it with the knife.“Rhys! You motherfucker! You touched my wife! Get out here! I’ll hack you to pieces!”The noise drew more and more nei
