Adeline paced back and forth in her room, her fingers pressed against her lips as she tried to think. So far, she hadn’t come up with a single idea.

“It was all his fault!” she yelled, running a hand through her hair, her face twisted in fury.

Her room was a disaster—just like her mind.

Pillows were strewn across the floor, the bedsheets half-hanging as if yanked in a fit of rage. One of the dresser drawers had been pulled out and tossed aside, its contents—scarves, papers, and makeup—spilled and trampled underfoot. A long crack ran across the mirror above the vanity, a reminder of the moment she had flung a bottle at it.

Clothes clung limply to the edges of chairs, the wardrobe doors flung open, one hanging precariously by a hinge.

Books lay scattered against the wall, their spines bent, pages torn. The once-scented candles were now just puddles of broken wax on her desk.

She stepped over a shattered perfume bottle, its sharp scent still lingering in the air—mixing with the bitterne

As long as they could butter her up, they were certain they’d find a way to secure a partnership with her powerful family, and if they played their cards right, maybe even get the Lin family to invest in their company too.But behind the polite smiles and softened expressions, the minds in the room were already calculating. Each of them was thinking of ways to get the attention and trust of the only daughter of the Lin family.“It’s great that you’re interested in one of our sons,” Adeline said, her brows rising. “But you’re aware that Max is married, right?”“I do,” Neil replied without hesitation. The others shot Adeline sharp glances, like she’d said something she shouldn’t. But she didn’t care about their stares. She went on.“What if I introduced you to one of my sons?” she suggested. “His name is Oscar. He’s a good boy.”The moment Adeline said that, silence swept through the room. Then—panic. They all straightened, alarm flashing in their eyes. Was she seriously considering han

However, he shook his head, brushing the thoughts away. He had done such a good job with his disguise that no one would be able to tell the difference. He had played his part, and now all that mattered was watching how things unfolded.Still standing in front of the door, Frank’s patience finally snapped. “I asked you a question,” he barked, stepping toward Neil. “Who the hell are you?”Neil turned to face him, tone calm. “My name is Alicia. I’m a friend of Max.”“A friend?” Frank cut him off with a sneer. “You think just tossing that out means anything to us? You show up here out of nowhere, dressed like you own the place, dragging a damn bodyguard like you’re some big shot, and we’re just supposed to smile and clap?”“I didn’t come to start a fight,” Alicia said, keeping composed. “I just wanted to talk to Max.”“Well, congratulations. You’ve seen him,” Frank snapped. “Now go ahead and march right back to wherever it is you crawled out from.”“Uncle Frank,” Max interjected, steppin

Lisa immediately swung her legs off the bed and stood slowly, making sure she wasn’t being watched. She crossed to the window, peeked outside, then crept over to the door and opened it just enough to listen. When she was sure the hallway was empty, she slipped out like a shadow and began her descent down the back staircase. She needed to reach Tedmond before things spiraled again, before someone else got to him. She had come up with a new plan, a better one, something that would ensure he wouldn’t do anything reckless or foolish.‘He had to listen this time.’The Griffin family was going to deal with him soon, and he would have no choice but to listen to whatever she had to say. There was no way he’d want to be beaten up again. She hadn’t gotten the seal yet, but finding Tedmond came first, especially since she had disappeared the day before without telling him anything. Her footsteps were silent on the basement stairs. Her fingers skimmed the cold stone walls for balance, and she pre

As soon as the words left Otis’s lips, the others began to speak up. He had merely voiced what they were all thinking, and now that the door was open, none of them held back.Tina, seated near the window with a deep frown, folded her arms and spoke first.“She fell down the stairs. Okay, fine. But why are we all gathered here, as if it were a family crisis? We were in the middle of discussing something far more important, which is Tedmond being locked in the basement. This feels like a distraction.”Gerald nodded in agreement. “Exactly. We’ve been working on a strategy to deal with Tedmond. The last thing we need is to get sidetracked by whatever this is.”He hated that now, when Tedmond had finally been caught, something else might arise to divert their attention. It worried him. What if they missed something important again?Richard scoffed lightly, leaning forward. He, too, had left what he was doing, thinking it was urgent, only to find out it wasn’t.“I thought maybe the fall cau

The next day, Tedmond sat on the couch, a tablet in hand as he browsed through the files he had been tasked to review. His brows were slightly furrowed, not from the difficulty of the work, but from the weight of everything still left unresolved. His mind kept drifting. The Griffin family. He couldn’t get over the fact that they were still silent, even after his escape. That silence gnawed at him. It didn’t make sense, unless something else had taken their attention. Something strong enough to distract them completely. They had all rushed out to the hospital that day. He still didn’t know what had happened. But whatever it was, it must have been big. And if he wanted to find out, he couldn’t go back there by himself. It would be better if they still believed he was locked up in the basement. That way, by the time they realized he was gone, enough time would’ve passed to confuse them.He needed someone else to go to his place. Someone they wouldn’t suspect. And suddenly, it came to him

  • CHAPTER 344

Just as Max left, Lisa got off the bed.Her bare feet touched the cold floor, but she barely noticed. Her mind was spinning. The walls of the hospital room felt like they were closing in, suffocating her with thoughts she didn’t want to think. She paced for a while, then stopped and stared at her reflection in the window. Her eyes were empty. Her face was pale. The baby growing inside her felt like a prison sentence she never signed up for.The only solution she could think of was getting rid of it.That thought clung to her like a shadow. If she lost the baby, maybe everything could go back to the way it was. Maybe Tedmond wouldn’t change his mind and go back on their deal. Maybe Max would finally let her go. But it couldn’t look deliberate. If Max suspected anything, he’d never let her out of his sight. If the world found out, they’d call her a monster. She needed to make it seem like an accident. A mistake. Something out of her control. Her eyes darted toward the door. She took a d
