Lisa’s eyes widened.

Though she had come back, she never imagined Amara would still hit her—just like she used to in the past.

She had thought she could finally rest here, but if this was how things were going to be, she would’ve rather stayed with the Griffins than return to this hellhole.

“You think you can talk to me like that after everything I’ve done for this family?” Amara spat. “After you dared to crawl back here as if you belonged?”

Lisa slowly turned her head toward her, breathing unevenly but eyes defiant. The pain on her cheek was clear, yet her pride refused to crumble.

Amara smirked at that stubborn look, stepping closer until her shadow fell over Lisa.

“Still pretending to be strong, huh?” she whispered mockingly. “Let’s see how long that lasts.”

Lisa’s cheek burned where Amara’s hand had struck her. She didn’t move for a moment, just sat there with her hair falling over her face, the silence heavy except for the faint ticking of the clock.

Then, slowly, she lifted her

In all his thirty years of living, Dr. Simon Avery had never been dragged outside a hospital like that, nor had he ever been kidnapped or brought to a mansion so grand. Just looking at it felt unreal.‘There is no way my family could afford the ransom, ’ he thought. From the lavishness of the house, the ransom would probably be astronomical. But perhaps he hadn’t been kidnapped for ransom at all. Maybe it was something else entirely. Or perhaps the house belonged to a criminal hiding from the law who, for some reason, couldn’t go to a hospital for treatment and had to bring a doctor here, and he happened to be the one they could find. Now, he was being carried like a sack of potatoes, led through a mansion whose interior he had no idea about, with no clue what awaited him. They passed through endless corridors before finally stopping at a large door.“We are finally here,” Thomas said, pushing the door open and stepping inside. The room was furnished elegantly, with sunlight stream

The doctor hurried toward Hino, who was carrying Alicia carefully in his arms. Neil’s face was pale, his hands clutching Hino’s shirt tightly as he whimpered in pain.“What happened?” the doctor asked quickly. “Did she eat something she wasn’t supposed to? Or have you taken any kind of medication recently?”Hino shook his head, breathing hard. “No. She just suddenly started holding her stomach and said it hurt. She didn’t eat anything strange, at least not that I saw.”“Alright,” the doctor said, gesturing to the nurses nearby. “We’ll need to check her immediately. She’s pregnant, right?”“Yes,” Hino replied.“Then we don’t have time to waste,” the doctor said urgently. “We’ll take her to the emergency room for an ultrasound and make sure the baby is fine. Sir, you can come with her, but I need space to work.”The nurses hurried forward, one bringing a stretcher, another preparing the equipment while asking questions.Neil’s voice came out weak and shaky. “It hurts so much… Please sav

  • CHAPTER 465

The doctor’s office was quiet, the smell of antiseptic hanging heavy in the air. A small clock ticked steadily on the wall, and the faint hum of the air conditioner filled the silence. Files were stacked neatly on the desk, and medical charts covered the white walls.Lisa sat on one of the chairs, her back straight but her hands clenched together on her lap. Her feet tapped against the tiled floor nervously as she waited for the doctor to speak. Since they arrived at the hospital, she had been moved from nurse to nurse for the pregnancy test, and now, sitting there, her stomach twisted with unease. She didn’t know what the doctor was going to say—or what Evelyn and Tina would do once they found out the truth about her almost miscarrying.“She’s still pregnant,” the doctor finally announced.“You’re sure?” Evelyn asked, her brows raised.“Yes,” the doctor replied, handing her the lab results.Evelyn snatched the paper and glanced down at it. Lisa sat quietly between her and Tina, n

  • CHAPTER 464

“What do you think she’s doing here?” Adeline asked as soon as Lisa was dragged away.“There’s no need to ask that, Ade,” Tina said, playing with her fingernails with a tired look in her eyes. “Lisa is a bitch, and she’s caused enough trouble already.”Evelyn turned around to look at Adeline, a hard look on her face, before walking forward and sitting back in her seat—the same one she had left when Lisa arrived. She glanced in the direction Lisa had been taken.“The audacity for her to come back,” she said.“There’s no way she didn’t know about the accident.”“I don’t know why that bitch is here,” Evelyn replied to Adeline’s question. “But I’m sure she came back with something terrible in mind.”Richard placed a finger on his chin, thinking. “That might be true, but at least she brought back the seal.”“The seal is all that matters now,” Gerald said. “She left with it to give to Tedmond, but it seems we mistook her. Maybe she really left to clear her mind like she said and only took

  • CHAPTER 463

Lisa’s eyes widened as her head snapped to the side. She had expected to be punished, but not slapped in the face the moment she stepped into the house. The strike told her something worse might follow.“How dare you think of coming back here?!” Evelyn snapped, eyes flashing in anger. “How dare you come without asking anyone?!”The slap still stung as Lisa turned to look at Evelyn.“I wanted to come back because I’m part of the family,” Lisa said, meeting Evelyn’s gaze. “You listed me as missing, so I thought I should show up so you’d know I’m fine.”Evelyn’s eyes reddened. She raised her hand again, but a firm grip stopped her.“Let go of me,” Evelyn snapped without turning.Otis had held her wrist. He wore a deep frown, like he wanted to strike Lisa himself, but he kept Evelyn from hitting her again.Hope fluttered across Lisa’s face until she looked at Otis and saw him glare. The hope instantly vanished.“I said, let go of me!” Evelyn snarled. “Don’t tell me you’re standing up f

She walked straight upstairs to her room. Everything was exactly as she’d left it—the curtains drawn, the drawer half open, the stack of papers still on her table, and the mess taken care of.More like the housekeeper had cleaned the room—and without permission at that.Lisa didn’t waste any time. She took out her small travel bag from the wardrobe and began packing. She reached for the drawer where she had kept the divorce papers she’d written earlier that week.Lisa stared at the documents for a moment, then tore them apart one by one.The sound of the paper ripping filled the room. When she was done, she checked the small wooden box beside her table. Inside was the seal she had kept safe—the only thing that could save her now.It was still there. She touched it lightly, her fingers trembling for just a second before she shut the lid and placed it carefully into her bag.Without glancing back, Lisa zipped the bag and walked out of the room. The housekeeper was still standing in the
