The Return of the Butcher

After about three hours, Butcher’s Rolls-Royce finally rolled to a stop in front of the mansion. The driver stepped out, opening the rear door with precision. Slowly, Butcher emerged, his gaze sweeping over the familiar walls and ornate gates of his estate.

Then, almost instinctively, he slid back into the car as the driver turned it toward the main gate and honked. The gatekeeper, recognizing the signal, immediately opened the gates with a swift motion.

As the car drove in, Butcher noticed something unusual: all his men were standing outside, their faces serious, rigid, almost unnatural in their discipline. A shiver ran down his spine.

“Where… what’s going on here?” Butcher muttered under his breath.

His men stepped forward in unison and saluted him. Something didn’t feel right. They might have done something… Butcher’s mind raced.

“Yes, thank you,” he said aloud, forcing his usual calm tone. “You’re dismissed. Go back to your rooms.”

He watched them leave, still tense. I didn’

“You wouldn’t. And I know for sure you will not,” Butcher said firmly.“I hope I don’t,” Dane replied, still calm. Deep down, though, he thought, Suppose Paul had just stayed quiet… Butcher was always going to ask him what he planned to do against Leo. His answer mattered—and that’s why he ended up dead.“Hey,” Butcher broke Dane’s thoughts. “Just because you saw his corpse doesn’t mean you should let your guard down. Keep your gun on you at all times. Be ready.”“Yes, sir,” Dane said. Then he hesitated, before asking, “Sir… why did you actually kill him? I know Paul was someone you liked. You even said once he was more trustworthy than me.”“Yes,” Butcher answered, his voice low but sharp. “The reason I said that was simple. I’ve known him longer. Before you ever came into this matter, I spent years with him. You’ve only been here a little more than a year. A few months of loyalty doesn’t outweigh years of history. That’s why I said he was more trustworthy.”He paused, then continued

  • Illusion of Law

The following morning, as Dane woke up, he reached for his gun, the one he always kept by his side when he slept. A sharp noise cut through the air—whew, whew, whew, whew, whew.“What’s going on…?” he muttered. He pushed open the window and froze. A helicopter was circling the mansion. Down below, seven police motorcades lined up outside the compound.Dane grabbed his gun and bolted for the hall. Are they here to attack us or what? He ran straight for Butcher’s room and banged on the door.“Sir!” Dane shouted. He opened the door without waiting for permission—only to find police officers standing inside, calmly stationed as if they belonged there.“What’s going on?” Dane demanded.“You’re supposed to knock before entering my room,” Butcher said coldly.“But sir—the cops—” Dane stammered.“Those police are mine,” Butcher cut in. “They don’t work against us, they work for me. They’re here to keep up appearances… and to lure Leo’s men into hesitation. If he sees the cops and even a helic

  • Failure’s End

A knock on the door.“I’m back, sir,” Paul said.“Good. What happened on the mission? Was it successful? Or did you fail?” Butcher asked.Paul hesitated. “The mission… was a failure,” he admitted.“And how? How did it fail? Tell me every single detail. Why did it fail? I gave you one of the easiest plans. Did you even follow it exactly?” Butcher’s voice was sharp.“I… I tried, sir. I set bombs everywhere, but I didn’t follow your plan exactly,” Paul said.“Why didn’t you? You need to give me a reason. If you had followed my plan to the letter, everything would have gone smoothly.” Butcher’s eyes narrowed.“Sir… I didn’t want to blow the ship. My plan was to attack them directly. But I also had a backup plan—if things went out of control, I could blow the ship while trying to get as many men out as possible,” Paul explained.“But nothing matters, because you didn’t follow my orders. You changed my plan. That is disobedience—a massive one. Your contract is clear: you swore to obey every

“Understood,” Dane said.“Now you guys leave my room,” Butcher said.As Dane and Jane walked out, Dane couldn’t help but think: What is Butcher going to do? Is he going to be furious? Will he ask why I didn’t follow his plan?Jane whispered, “How… how did he even lose? The plan Butcher gave wasn’t complicated—it was simple. Easy. Why didn’t it work?”“The thing is,” Dane said, keeping his voice low as they walked away, “he didn’t follow Butcher’s orders when he went there. Not only that, Leo May infiltrated the ship. He ordered guns, bombs—more bombs. But the people who came to deliver them… they were sent by Leo himself. And a lot of our men died on that ship. But I want Butcher to hear it directly from him. That’s why I didn’t say anything back then.”Jane shook her head. “Shit… that’s crazy. Why would he do that? Why not just stick to the plan? That was one of the easiest missions Butcher has ever given—just explode the ship, nothing more.”“Yeah,” Dane replied, “but he didn’t want

  • Preparing for the Worst

“If we truly lose, it’s going to be tough. You need to understand that if things don’t go the way I expected and we lose on that ship, then tomorrow morning, we will be attacked. I want to speak to Paul personally to confirm this—not through anyone else,” butcher said.“You don’t trust me or what? You didn’t actually give me the details of what happened,” butcher said.“But anyone can see what I’m trying to say,”Dane replied.“Yes, it’s so obvious,” Jane said.“Sir, I need a gun. Since the last time Jane and I infiltrated Richard’s mansion, this was my gun. We used the gun from my travelling bag. Since then, I haven’t had many guns. I need a proper amount to be able to pick the one I want for a specific mission,” Dane said.“It’s fine. On your mission, you’ll be provided with as many guns as you need. While you are here, if you need a gun, you can pick the one you want—especially in emergencies. Over 300 of my men are here, and they have guns in their rooms, ready in case of an attack

“So what are you going to do about Paul?” Dane asked.“I’m still not sure what I’m going to do to him. And you haven’t told me what happened,” Butcher replied. “But after he hears what you said, it’s only a matter of time. He’ll come back, report to me, and then I’ll decide his fate.”“So what about Leo? If we actually lost, would he know we’re here by now?” Dane asked.“Well yes,” Butcher said. “If what you said is true, then from what I’ve heard, and from what I think happened, he’s already figured out where we are. Because even if he didn’t have a spy, there are many people who might know our location. And one of them, perhaps an enemy, could have given him the information.”“But sir, if Leo attacks, by that time I’m going to be in Genoa,” Dane said.Butcher stood up and put a hand on Dane’s shoulder. “There’s a very big chance it might happen while you’re gone. But there’s also a chance it could be tomorrow. I know you’ve messed with him, and he’s very hot-tempered. He might not s
