The highest towers collapse the fastest when the ground beneath them turns to ice.
The morning sun did not bring a single ounce of warmth to Bradley Sterling’s private luxury villa. By eight o'clock in the morning, three massive yellow moving trucks were already parked directly outside the heavy iron gates. Men in dark blue uniforms were busy carrying out expensive oil paintings, luxury Italian furniture, and velvet lined jewelry cases under the direct supervision of the federal court auditors.
Chloe stood right in the center of the grand marble foyer, wrapped tightly in a silk robe, screaming at a tired auditor who was currently cataloging her diamond necklace collection. "You cannot take those items from this house! Those pieces were personal gifts to me! This entire operation is completely illegal!"
"Ma'am," the auditor replied coldly, not even bothering to look up from the bright screen of his digital tablet. "All physical assets purchased with financial funds connected directly to Sterling Enterprises are currently subject to the emergency freeze order filed by Sovereign Holdings. Please step aside immediately, or I will have the federal marshals remove you from the premises for obstructing justice."
"This is madness!" Chloe shrieked, her voice echoing off the bare walls. "You are stealing from me!"
"I am simply executing a federal court order, ma'am," the auditor stated flatly, pointing his pen toward the door. "Move out of the way."
Bradley sat quietly on the very bottom step of the grand staircase, his head buried deep in his hands. His dark hair was messy, and his expensive designer suit from the gala the night before was completely wrinkled. In less than twelve hours, his entire life had been completely turned upside down. Every single black credit card he tried to use this morning had been instantly declined by the merchants. His high end sports cars had already been hooked up and towed away down the street.
"How exactly did he do this?" Bradley muttered into his palms, his voice sounding entirely hollow and ragged. "He was a complete nobody in my office. I checked his personal background myself before I ever signed his hiring papers. His parents were poor factory workers who died in a debt colony. He shouldn't have this kind of global backing. He shouldn't even be alive right now."
Chloe ran over to him in a panic, grabbing his shoulders violently and shaking him. "Do something right now, Bradley! You are supposed to be a powerful billionaire! Call your wealthy friends in the local government! Call the city mayor! We absolutely cannot let that garbage office clerk put us out on the public street like beggars!"
"I already called every single one of them, Chloe!" Bradley roared out, throwing her hands off his shoulders as he stood up from the stairs in complete frustration. He paced around the empty foyer, his eyes bloodshot. "I called the mayor, I called the chief of police, and I called the head of the regional banking committee. Do you honestly want to know what they told me? The very moment they heard the name Sovereign Holdings, they hung up the phone on me. Two of them explicitly told me to never call their personal lines ever again. Whoever is backing Leo does not just have immense money, Chloe. They have the kind of terrifying power that makes top politicians disappear from the face of the earth."
"So they just abandoned us?" Chloe whispered, her eyes wide with fear as she looked at the empty spaces on the walls where the artwork used to hang. "Just like that?"
"Yes," Bradley said, his voice trembling. "They are terrified of him."
"We need to find a place to stay," Chloe stammered, pulling her robe tighter. "We can go to a boutique hotel."
"With what cash, Chloe?" Bradley snapped, gesturing to his pockets. "Our cards are plastic garbage right now."
Right at that exact moment, the heavy iron gates of the villa automatically swung open with a loud mechanical hum. A single, pristine silver luxury sedan pulled slowly into the concrete driveway, its engine purring quietly.
Master Vance stepped out of the rear seat of the vehicle, holding a sleek black leather document folder under his arm. He walked into the open villa foyer with the calm, relaxed demeanor of an old man taking a casual morning stroll through a public park. He looked around at the empty walls where the expensive art pieces used to hang, a small, polite smile playing on his face.
"Good morning, Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Walker," Vance said smoothly, bowing his head just a fraction of an inch.
"Do not call me by that name!" Chloe spat out instantly, her green eyes wild with pure anger as she glared at the old man. "I am not his wife anymore! Leo is nothing but a dead man walking, and you are going to jail with him!"
Vance ignored her outburst completely, turning his full attention toward Bradley. "Mr. Sterling, my employer is a remarkably reasonable man. He understands perfectly well that sudden physical displacement from a luxury home can be quite stressful for an individual. Therefore, he has explicitly instructed me to offer you a temporary housing solution."
Vance slowly opened the black folder and pulled out a single, thin sheet of white paper, laying it carefully down on the marble stairs right next to Bradley's feet.
Bradley looked down at the document, his brow furrowing. It was a standard lease agreement for a tiny, run down single room apartment located deep within the worst industrial slums of Sector 4. It was the exact same dangerous district where Leo’s parents had spent their final, painful years working off their heavy debts before they died.
"My employer has graciously paid the first month's rental f*e for you," Vance said, his voice dripping with polite, icy mockery. "He firmly believes it is vital for you to understand the true foundation of this city before you attempt to rebuild your corporate empire. You have exactly two hours to vacate this entire villa before the security locks are permanently changed by our team."
Bradley clenched his fists so incredibly hard that his knuckles turned completely white, his frame shaking with rage. "You tell Leo... you tell him I will see him in a federal court of law. I am going to file a massive antitrust lawsuit that will tie up his majority shares for the next ten years!"
Vance smiled gently, turning around slowly to leave the foyer. "You are more than welcome to try that strategy, Mr. Sterling. But to file a formal lawsuit in this country, one typically requires the liquid funds to pay a retainer f*e to a high profile lawyer. And right now, according to our latest banking records, you do not even possess enough money to buy a basic cup of coff*e from the street corner. Good day to you both."
As Vance’s silver sedan drove out of the driveway and through the gates, Chloe turned to look at Bradley, her face twisting into an expression of pure, unadulterated disgust. "Look at you right now. You are supposed to be a powerful, feared man in this city, and you are just standing there letting a common office clerk treat us like stray dogs. If you cannot fix this disaster by tonight, I am leaving you."
"Where exactly are you going to go, Chloe?" Bradley laughed bitterly, looking at her with completely hollow, dead eyes as he picked up the lease agreement from the stairs. "You have no personal money left, no wealthy friends who will take you into their homes now that we are corporate outcasts, and your face is all over the morning news stations. We are in this together now, Chloe. Whether you like it or not, you are coming to the slums."

The Price of Treason
The only thing more expensive than buying a billionaire's empire is paying the debt for a life you tried to steal.Leo Walker stood firmly in the very center of the ruined apartment room, the dark kinetic energy around his body slowly receding back into the metal of his family ring. He looked down at his crying ex-wife and his broken former boss with an expression of pure, completely detached indifference. The room was deathly quiet now, save for the heavy sound of the storm outside.Bradley was hyperventilating loudly, his bloody hands clawing desperately at the dirty floorboards as he tried to pull himself backward. "Leo... please listen to me. I will give you absolutely everything I have left. I have a secret offshore bank account hidden away in Switzerland, fifty million dollars in cash that the federal court auditors completely missed during the initial raid. It’s yours. Every single cent of it is yours, Leo. Just let me leave the country tonight. I will never come back to this c
The Extraction
The sky does not bleed water when the true masters of the dark go to war, it bleeds absolute terror. The heavy rain poured down violently on Sector 4, turning the dirty streets into deep rivers of thick black mud. The broken streetlights along the sidewalk flickered weakly against the heavy downpour, casting long, eerie shadows across the decaying neighborhood.Inside the pitch black space of Room 302, Bradley and Chloe were huddled together tightly in the far corner of the dark, the building's electricity having been cut off completely hours ago due to non-payment. Every single creak and groan from the narrow hallway outside made them jump in fear, their minds entirely terrified that the loan sharks had returned early to claim their physical fingers."Bradley, I hear something outside the door," Chloe whispered, her body shaking so violently that her teeth chattered in the dark. "Please tell me they are not back.""Keep your mouth shut, Chloe," Bradley hissed back in a desperate, rag
The Shadow's Edge
The dangerous thing about pulling a thread on a corporate empire is discovering the ancient monsters holding the other end. While Bradley and Chloe were drowning in the terrifying depths of the industrial slums, Leo Walker was sitting comfortably in a high-backed leather chair inside the secret subterranean archive of the Sovereign Group. The massive underground room was brightly illuminated by ancient stone torches that burned with a strange, deep blue flame that required absolutely no oil or fuel to sustain itself. The blue light cast long, dancing shadows across the rows of steel shelves and historic volumes that protected the true history of the world.Master Vance stood quietly by his side, carefully presenting an ancient leather-bound scroll written in a complex language that had been dead for thousands of years. The Lower Depths
You only realize how many monsters you created on your way up when they are waiting for you at the bottom. The industrial slums of Sector 4 were always covered in a thick, choking layer of grey smog that drifted constantly from the nearby chemical processing plants. The air itself felt heavy and metallic, leaving a bitter taste on the tongue.A rusty yellow taxi pulled up slowly to the cracked curb of a crumbling, six story brick tenement building. Bradley and Chloe stepped out of the vehicle together, each carrying a single cheap plastic suitcase that contained the very few clothes the federal court auditors had allowed them to keep from their villa.Chloe looked up at the shattered glass windows and the rusty, twisted fire escapes clinging to the brick wall, her stomach turning over in absolute disgust. Hundreds of wealthy regional investors, elite bank executives, and high-society socialites watched the strange interaction unfold, their faces twisted in absolute confusion by the sudden, panicked change in Bradley and Chloe’s confident demeanor. They looked at each other, murmuring under their breath as they tried to understand why the city's top power couple looked entirely terrified of a single newcomer."Who exactly is this man?" Bradley demanded loudly, struggling hard to locate his regular, booming voice, though it trembled visibly at the edges. He gripped the edge of the stage podium until his knuckles turned entirely white. "Security! Get these people out of my sight right now! This is a private corporate event, and these individuals are trespassing on my property!"Four of the Imperial Hot
