CHAPTER TWELVE

The night He just had was the best night of his life. Still not able to believe he was rich now. Able to provide for his wife and for himself. Get back at the people that looked down on him.

But he was still trying to think if what he was doing was the right thing. Allowing the people that wanted him dead to be left with him on the same roof.

They can easily kill him. Poison him or something else. Though you never give up on family, he was thinking twice about his decision to allow the Noah family to leave under the same roof as him.

But what was he going to do about it? This was the only way to prove to his wife that he was still good. That money didn’t change him. It was the only way to prove to himself that he was still good.

“Sir, this responsibility is way too much for me to carry. What am I going to do now? You know your family better than I could have. I love you and I want to do the right thing. But that right thing might be my death,” I spoke, looking at Mr. Noah.

He just got up from bed and went. Took a quick shower and dressed up in a rather dashing way. With an expensive-looking suit that apparently fit his body perfectly. Well-polished shoes and finished up his look with a golden wristwatch.

Then, as he was walking downstairs, mother-in-law called him behind.

What did she want now?

“Morning mother,” He said to her politely.

She just glared at him, “just because you are now rich doesn’t mean you can do about anything or call me what you want. I’m still not your mother and I will never be. I just wanted to tell you that you still have to go ahead with the divorce. I don’t care about your money,” she said.

“I’m sure that decision is between me and my wife. If she wants to stay with me, then we will stay together, mother-in-law. You have no say in our marriage. I will concentrate on your other kids if I were you.” He told her and walked away — leaving the woman shouting for him.

This was what he was talking about. They didn’t like him in the slightest. They will kill him at any chance they get. He needs to figure out what to do about them as soon as possible before his fears come true.

But Eliza doesn’t love him that much. She might have felt something for him. But all that will end as soon as she realizes he was throwing her family members outside the mansion they have been leaving in for years. And then she was definitely going to give him that divorce.

He walked to the kitchen and, as he was making himself a cup of coffee, Eliza walked in. All dressed up for work as well.

“Morning,” she said to him as she reached for a cup.

“Morning, Eliza. Here,” he offered her a cup of coffee and she took it. “If you are leaving for work now, I will be happy to take you,” he offered, smiling at her.

“I have a car Trevor. I will be fine, thanks,” she smiled back. “And thanks for the coffee,” she said and turned.

But he called her behind, and she turned, “Sorry for stopping you. But just wanted to ask you something. I know this might not be the time nor place, but I have to,” he said. She just looked at him and gestured for him to ask away, after noticing he was making no attempt to speak. “Have you ever loved me in the slightest? Felt any affection for me?”

There was an awkward silence for a while. Then she spoke, “I don’t know what to say to that Trevor. I’m happy for you and what you have now. I’m grateful for allowing me and my family to be leaving here. But I don’t think I have ever felt such affection for you,” without even giving him a chance to say anything, she left the room.

He was left in dismay — fearing what mother-in-law said might come true, actually. The basis of a relation is centered around love. What is the point of them staying married if she doesn’t love him? He might as well give her the divorce she wanted.

He just left the coffee and walked outside. Just as he was about to enter the car, he saw her coming out.

“I insist,” he smiled at her.

“You never quit, do you?” She smiled back, but looking down after what had just happened a few minutes ago.

“Never. Shall we?” He said and opened the door for her. She entered, and he rounded the car and entered himself. But not after smiling and waving at his mother-in-law, who was watching them from the window.

Took off and drove as fast as he could because she told him she was running late for the meeting. After the show he pulled off last night, the board called for a meeting. Talk about what was going to happen to the company now since he bought the shares from grandmother and mother.

“They will be a party at the company to celebrate its anniversary.” She told him about halfway to the company.

“That is good. How many years now?” He asked.

“Ten years of existence,” she laughed lightly.

“That is good. Congratulations.”

“Thanks. I was hoping you can be there since you contributed a lot after what you did. You saved our company, Trevor. Thank you,” she looked at him for a second.

“It’s my job as your husband. I know you don’t see me like that. But I will always be here for you. And of course I will be there. What time is it starting?”

“Nine pm. But if you are busy with work as well, I get it. You are still getting used to all of this,” she laughed lightly again.

He also did the same, “I will be there.” He said and parked his car. Gestured for her to sit down as he opened the door for her. And just to add to his happiness, Jackson just arrived as well. Watching them from a distance. And other people as well.

He heard them whispering about how handsome he looked. Asking themselves how he changed from a man that was crying over a bicycle to that.

“Thank you once again for the lift.” She told him.

“Anytime,” before he could enter his car, news reporters rushed to him. Shouting all sorts of questions to him.

“Sir, we heard that you are the new face of the Trevor wine company? How true is that?” They asked.

He looked from one reporter to the other. Trying to understand what was going on. This was one thing he never expected. People questioning him and following him around.

“Is it true that you are the number one billionaire in all of Africa?” Another one shouted before he could even answer the first question.

He watched as Eliza went inside with Jackson. Feeling his blood boiling.

“What are you going to do to the people that looked down on you before you got all these riches?” They asked.

He didn’t even know what to say to them. What question to answer? So he made a run for it.

“I’m sorry, but I have to go,” he said and entered his car and drive as fast as he could to his work.

Who knew he could be all this known because of his wine company that he actually just inherited from his grandfather-in-law?

The all way he was smiling. Thinking about the party, Eliza asked him to attend. It might be a start of their relationship. For them to finally bond. For him to win her heart. For him to make her fall in love with him.

But he needed to do something about Jackson. Because truth be told, Jackson happened to be Eliza’s best friend, and they have been friends for years. So, the possibilities of him taking Eliza from him were higher.

He just blushed it off and went out of his car as he reached the company. But before he could go inside the company, someone called him behind.

Looking, it was a mailman.

“Morning sir,” he told him.

“Morning,” Trevor replied.

“This belongs to you,” he handed an envelope to Trevor and went away.

The man opened it and his eyes widened at what he was reading.

‘You hoped for this. Sometimes you should be careful what you hope for.’

What the hell did it even mean? Who could have sent it to him and why?

He looked around, but nothing. Someone out there was out to get him. But what did he hope for that the sender of the message was talking about?
